No it’s fucking not. There was just as much fucking awful and forgettable anime back then that exists today. Difference being that license companies and early fansubbers only brought over the good stuff. Do you honestly think so few shows existed at that time? They were our shit filter.
Eh, the tone was different. I’m not saying all the old shit was good but tonally it was totally different from what comes out today. Much darker and willing to do something different. Today it’s all so much lighter in tone and aims at pleasing all audiences (for the most part). Do you really think the powers that be would do the Street Fighter 2 Animated Movie today?

In defence of James Cameron’s Avatar- in film making there is ALOT of study and hard work involved, there is a very important reason he called it unobtainium.
Also if you saw this in the cinema in 3D and didn’t like any of it you either wear glasses or didn’t go to the cinema and watch it in 3D
Avatar is a good spectacle. Like a fireworks display you watch on TV. It looks great visually but what they’re going for can never be achieved because you’re only an observer outside of that environment.
