What microsoft has done is bring down Sony’s prices. What did ps3 launch at? $500-$600? If they didn’t have a goal of trying to jab a knife into MS throats, what do you think the PS4 (an obviously more advanced console) would’ve costed? I guarantee it would’ve been $600-$700 minimum and wouldn’t any of you broke ass bums have bought it. Because in console territory ninetendo can’t compete anymore. If microsoft dissapears from the console industry, sony won’t have to make their console look better, or give a shit about feedback. They will have free reign to do whatever they please and everyone will be worse off for it. One of the reasons the PS3 was so expensive was because of the Cell and how expensive NVidia’s GPU was in the PS3. This is why it took so long for the price to drop too, Sony wanted to drop the price earlier but couldn’t afford to because NVidia were being greedy bastards, as well as the Cell being expensive as hell to produce and Sony was already losing money on each PS3 sold. It’s pretty interesting stuff if you research it a bit. It’s the main reason Sony went with AMD over NVidia this gen. If they didn’t, we’d all be seeing another $599+ console. Microsoft already got burned by NVidia with the original Xbox, so they went with an AMD GPU in the 360 as well as the Xbox One.
**Edit: Oh yeah, NVidia promised a lot when it came to the GPU in the PS3 and under-delivered BIG TIME. The 360’s AMD GPU is actually more powerful, and, the 360 has unified memory VS the PS3’s spilt memory architecture. This is why the 360 was easier to develop for, and which is why we saw most multi-plats run ever so slightly better on the 360. The only edge PS3 has over the 360 is its beastly processor(which is actually more powerful than both next-gen consoles processors, btw) and Blu-Ray. The PS3’s processor could help with the graphics, and in doing so it made up for the bottleneck of the GPU but was almost exclusively only used this way by 1st-party developers.
Sony is going with unified memory with the PS4 and have done a lot to streamline the development process. Not only will the PS4 be easier to develop for, it has a raw power edge over the Xbox One as well. Multi-plats performance/graphical gap will be in the PS4’s favor this time, and the gap might be even bigger because of the pretty big power difference between the two consoles VS the smaller power difference between the PS3/360.**

Casual gamers still think the Wii U is a tablet peripheral add-on for the original Wii still.
Wii U is struggling because not only did they release a more expensive current-gen console than the competitors(it’s slightly more powerful than the PS3/360 but the difference is minimal) the tablet controller is really underwhelming to the masses VS motion gaming. While motion gaming isn’t for me, it’s what made the Wii sell like hotcakes in the first place.
It also sucks that the tablet controller is keeping the price of the Wii U pretty high. It’d be cheap as shit without it.
Wii U/3DS/2DS=confuses the general public.

I played the DMC re-boot and I thought it was alright, remember when you were a kid and rented a random Sega Genesis game and it was soo bad that it was actually fun? kinda like that, the game is really shallow compared to the original series though.
Niche Japanese games…that alone is a unpopular gaming opinion…still it’s one that I hold dear to me since some of my favorite games thislast console generation have been in the form of niche JRPG’s and other types of games from Japan…more specifically, Hyperdimension Neptunia , Disgaea, Mugen Souls, and Hatsune Miku project Diva were fine games to me despite what any review site says about them.
The thing people have to know that niche games are targeted towards a specific demographic and don’t have mainstream appeal…which is why Companies like NIS America and XSeeD can keep their doors open is because they know how to market towards a smaller audience.
This maybe due to myself not really caring for western games all that much(I don’t play FPS’s), and I only really like the occasional Rockstar game(LA Noire, GTAV looks really fun) but really not many appeal to me. I’m more into you golden age 2D arcade experiences or stuff generally made in Japan.
I think one of the reasons developers like XseeD are still around is because their games don’t have Hollywood budgets and because of this, they don’t need to sell 8 million copies just to be in the green.
Rise of the Triad has modern graphics, sexy texture work that shits on most games and they made a profit with a 500K development budget. They didn’t need to sell millions of copies just to break even, and imo, bigger developers should take this route more. If they’re going to outsource their games(Capcom) they should outsource them to developers who care about making a quality product with a budget that isn’t ridiculous.
