For starters, one hit rarely comes down to a gaurd break. When i am playing, or when i see high level players that have played, you will rarely ever see someone catch an easy no fundamentals gaurd break. Even when it did, you can see all of the mistakes leading up to that gaurd break so that it could have been avoided.
Second, i kind of agree on infinites. If a3 had some kind of gravity scaling that would be cool. But i don’t really care. If you are seriously playing the game to get one hit to get a possible infinite, you are playing a losing game. There’s a lot more to the game then, “lemme just get one hit into this infinite plz” lots of infinites get dropped, or are not spaced properly.
But what about A2’s bullshit? Those in your face unblockables. I hate them. I hate having to bait them. I hate the fact that they exist. I hate the fact that they do fat damage. For the kind of game it was, it was really out of place.
I love A3 because it took the alpha series to a new level and took risks, a lot of risks that worked in my opinion. I like the high risk nature of the gameplay. Its not “JUST FORCE A GAURD BREAK” or “JUST CATCH AN INFINITE”
Playing it, you’ll realize that its just street fighter. amped up street fighter, but still street fighter
I feel like I’m the only person on this planet that thinks Rockstar Games are overrated. I play San Andreas, GTA IV and I brought Red Dead Redemption. Just couldn’t get into any of the games, except Midnight Club…meh. GTA V looks…the same as GTA IV…to me…
You’re kidding, right? Zoning, spacing, footsies, and all the like are very important in this game. If you mean V-ism crouch canceling combos by “1 hit to end the match”, then I agree somewhat, but not many matches are like this AT ALL. And I’m not talking about matches from GGPO. I mean real, high-level Japanese players playing. And technically, that would make footsies all the more necessary in that situation. Also, guard crushing is not common. If you’re talking about doing V-ism blockstrings to crush it, then you can either alpha counter, or if you knew that he would activate it, you can activate you own or level 3 super. A3 is not a horrible game, but this is what the unpopular opinions thread is for after all. But with that being said, I personally hate A2.
A2’s CC blowbacks aren’t unblockable. They can be blocked low, CC activation can be stuffed on start up, if someone starts a CC string on you you can alpha-counter it, etc. etc. There are a lot of ways around it. If you’re put into a situation where you need to block in A3 expect a guard break.
Playing A3 makes me realize how fucking shitty its mechanics are and how much all the stupid, stupid sub-systems take away from the game instead of adding to it. I don’t feel like I’m playing an SF game anymore at that point, and I feel like I’m playing Wack Mechanics: The Game when I do play it, which is how I feel when I play the Marvel series as well.
A2 is broken too, just not so broken to a point where the game becomes unplayable to me because of all the stupid shit going on like A3 has and the Marvel series. ST is extremely broken and cheap, but I still play that game, because even with all the cheap and stupid shit in ST, the mechanics are sound(outside of the throw mechanics and negative edge ) and I don’t find myself raging at the core mechanics/sub-systems like I find myself doing in A3/Marvel games.
If you aren’t going for infinites in a game that has them you are doing it wrong. Even if you don’t get damage, as long as you have the life lead, do it anyway and run the time down.
That’s like not going for TOD in ST.
A2’s end game selves into who pressed MP+MK “better”. The game still sucks, just not as much as A3.
Special shout-outs to fireballs doing less damage the farther they travel in A3, lol.
Silent Hill 4 is way better than all the SH games after it
Mortal Kombat controls suck
3rd Strike is cooler than any 4 version because it has 2D graphics
The entire SF2 OST is vastly overrated. Only Guile, Ken, Sagat, and Boxer have good themes. KOF series OST>>>SF series OST.
I don’t consider Telltale games to be actual games. They’re just movies with interactions. Inb4MGS4 go jump in a crocodile pit with a slab of a boar’s hide as a backpack.
Mavado’s the best post MK3 character. Followed by Ashrah. Then Drahmin
The adventure genre which is probably the oldest one in gaming started out as text based, in the 1970’s reading text on a computer screen and typing in what your character should do with no visuals or sound was the whole game. In the 80’s and 90’s the genre evolved with actual graphics, interactive cut scenes, and puzzles, but even then most point and click adventure games were rooted in the use of the interactivity as a means of advancing the plot rather than exist simply for gaming’s sake. So for you and anyone else who claims games emphasizing story over game play as not “actual games” you all don’t understand the definition of the term video game nor it’s history. It’s the equivalent of saying “I don’t consider a short film to be a film” once again, it still fulfills the requirements to be factually defined as being within the medium, just simply not to the extent to qualify in your abstract, subjective standard.
Yes he did, as he should considering the title and intent of this thread. Now I redirect your question to you. Did you really just type that my dude? The difference here being when I ask you, it’s rhetorical because yes your dumbass did just type that my dude. Once again I must proclaim my love/hate relationship with this thread. I love the idea of this thread, it’s cool to discuss why people may or may not like popular games however, I hate that I’m unable to do that here because 99% of you are too bitchmade to have that conversation.
I wasn’t sure if I should post this pic here or in the feminist thread so I flipped a coin:
