Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

I believe Blizzard’s best game was The Lost Vikings. I stand by that.

I’m of those who believe LTTP was much better than OoT.

omg dude, i hope ur being sarcastic here. ocarian of time was the shit!

too many good memories with that game! srsly, you need punishment of some sort!

majora’s mask wasn’t really as good as ocarina of time.

nuff said.

Douche, shut the fuck up.

Even if Lufia 2 IS so much better than games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Suikoden 2 (which it isn’t), it doesn’t automatically make them “shitty”.

FFT isn’t an rpg, it’s an SRPG. And really, the only SRPG worth mentioning until Disgaea came out.

I say shitty because every time I bring up rpgs the same games get brought up and I think all of them suck. Especially final fantasy. I’m entitled my opinion, especially since I’ve been playing video games, especially rpgs for 10+ years and have played everything people would bring up. Fuck FF7. Fuck most of the Tales games. Especially Abyss, wow that storyline was so fucking stupid I think I puked a little. Symphonia was fun, but it wasn’t groundbreaking, certainly not enough to justify everyones cockriding it. And I say it again, fuck final fantasy, those games are fucking terrible and have 0 replay value, the ‘value’ of those games is supposedly in the storyline, and yet a 20 hour game has less story than a 2 hour movie, et tu Square-Enix.

Lufia 2 was innovative, amazing and fun. It did some shit that NO ONE has yet to match, but many have tried, such as the ancient dungeon. Necronomigon in Tales of Symphonia tried and failed. Item Worlds in Disgaea were good, but nowhere near as good as the ancient dungeon, and disgaes2’s item worlds sucked ass. I still load up my rom and play the Ancient Dungeon when I’m bored and I’ve owned that game ten-fucking-years. It’s still fun. No other rpg stays fun that long, shit most of them are boring to replay once. Especially final fantasy, which was never fun to begin with, for me anyway. I’ve been playing Lufia 2 longer than I’ve been jacking off. That’s how old the fucking game is. Still amazingly fun.

Disagree all you like, thats what this thread is for.

I’ve always liked Lufia 2 more than SNES Zelda and Final Fantasy combined, to me it’s what would happen if the games were melded into one.

This shit pisses me off too, games suck nowadays because gaming is becoming mainstream, and with anything mainstream caders to fucking stupid people. There are very few good games being produced that aren’t coming out of Nintendo, who consistently make their own amazing games.

Every time I see 50 cent bulletproof on a shelf I feel like my childhood died.

While I’m at it, FUCK STAR OCEAN 3. WHY THE FUCK DID ANYONE FIND THAT GAME FUN. Jesus, I had so many people tell me that game was the best rpg ever, so I tolerated 10 hours of that shit. Worst dungeon design I have EVER seen, truly abominable. Horse-shit terrible, and the game is beyond over-complicated,

This only seems to be “unpopular gaming opinion” in real life. haha, this thread is old as hell. …but what if I pooted on yo’ burger? On the internet, however, it is quite popular. One mention of Halo on any thread on any forum prompts the next 3000 people to post about how much it sucks. At least on the internet, saying “halo sucks” is about the same as saying “Scrappy Doo was annoying.”. It’s hardly an unpopular opinion at this point.

--------Most of this will be rehashed stuff, since revisiting the hate is always fun…especially when I’m passionate about it…

  1. Turn-based RPG = automatically terrible. It could be the greatest story in the world, with the most interesting characters ever to appear in a work of fiction. The fact that it is turn-based immediately kills off my interest, because it is impossible for me to ever consider that “fun”. It doesn’t even count as “gameplay” to me. It’s a mildly interactive movie. Where is the fun if I’m merely suggesting what my characters will do via menu screens? Where’s the fun if timing of attacks, distancing, correct execution of the moves, and strategic position doesn’t matter? Where is the fun if I’m occasionally selecting something from a menu, and watching the game basically play itself?

Then you have this silly ass battle visual; the party meets a group of monsters in a forest. They all stand in perfect formation with a big space between the groups…one dude jumps out and SLASHES THE AIR…then he jumps back in formation. A monster comes out and does the same. You’ve got to be kidding me with this. It’s like some alternate world I’ve fallen into, where a sizeable majority of gamers out there are playing a practical joke on me that’s gone on since the 80s…and the whole point was to pretend to like this nonsense just to drive me crazy trying to analyze how this surprising majority of people consider this garbage “fun”.

-I don’t care for rumble feature in a controller. It was used brilliantly just one time so far, at least out of things I’ve played…and that was the Mantis fight in Metal Gear Solid. Every other time it’s just not been that necessary for me…in some games it’s actually annoying, and I’ll turn it off.

-Inverted directional control is just silly, imo. The worst is when a dickbag bitchass developer makes the game inverted control by default…but fails to include an option to change it to NORMAL shit…i.e. the first Otogi. That would’ve been such a great game…if I wasn’t struggling with some uncomfortable, completely unnatural bullshit ass “push up to look down” retardation. This isn’t a goddamn airplane simulator. I’m controlling a demon that’s slashing everything to pieces…up should mean up, shit.

-In terms of design, classic Megaman and crew are far more appealing than anything I’ve seen from the Megaman X series. Simple is usually better in the world of art/design, and this is a good example of that. Most of the Megaman X characters look like they are from an alternate universe, where all of Dr. Light and Dr. Wily’s robot creations are actually flaming homosexuals fresh from one of those parades they have on occasion. It’s Megaman: GLAAD Edition.

-I prefer controller to keyboard/mouse. I tried keyboard/mouse for awhile…but it’s just not comfortable for me. I can adapt to nearly any controller, but keyboard/mouse as a game controller is just crap, imo. I’d rather not cramp my hands regularly just for the benefit of better aim in a genre that has been stale for quite a while.

oooh and here’s the big one: Console > PC gaming. Shit, that’s a bomb there…a real Pandora’s Box of an issue that never ends well when it sparks discussion. Convenience, stability, and price make for a hell of a combo.

-I enjoyed the hell out of Sonic Heroes. It was certainly more fun and entertaining than either “Adventure” game.

-I don’t think a game’s insane difficulty automatically makes it “cool” or “badass”…it really just means it’s a terrible and flawed game. Battletoads, for instance. It’s obviously bad game design if you’ve made things so difficult, that the fun factor suffers greatly as a result. Bart Simpson vs. the Space Mutants is another one…with an impossible jump at the museum level that doesn’t even make sense in a number of ways(why/how is a tyrannosaur standing in a bottomless pit? why is there a bottomless pit in a goddamn museum? WHY does Bart fall right THROUGH the damn tyrannosaur if he lands anywhere other than one small part of the thing’s head/face? Does this tyrannosaur have phasing superpowers like the Matrix Twins, but he only used it on 97% of his body, leaving the head solid? Why?)

Going from SF2:Turbo/CRAZY Editions…to regular ol’ “Super” SF2…ohhhh that was such a big step back, imo. Super SF2 was slow as Christmas by comparison. Sorry, but I really can’t go backwards when it comes to gameplay speed. You can’t take me to something like 7star speed on the SNES version with all kinds of crazy shit going on…back to REGULAR SF2 speed. Nope, that’s not acceptable to me. SF Alpha was even SLOWER. I was disgusted, and didn’t even finish the match(which was against the computer of course, since nobody here gave a shit about SF anymore by the time Alpha came out.) Once again; this thread is so damn old, man… why are you looking at it again?

I liked The Bouncer. A lot. hides

I don’t have a problem with anyone whose favorite RPG is Lufia 2, and like it better than anything else.
I don’t even have a problem with anyone saying it’s better than every other RPG.

But when you automatically call every other RPG shitty, well…
And by the way, there’s no real distinction between SRPG and RPG other than battle systems.
Discussion of FF7 is pointless. You don’t have to bring it up 500 times in your argument. YES the game is looked at as the holy grail. YES the game is overrated.
Perhaps you’d like to tell me why each of THESE games are “shitty”:

–Final Fantasy 5
–Final Fantasy 6
–Final Fantasy Tactics
–Suikoden 2
–Suikoden 3
–Shining Force
–Fire Emblem 7
–Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
–Arc the Lad 2
–Chrono Trigger
–Star Ocean 2
(Borderline Action RPGs)
–Zelda: Link to the Past
–Zelda: Ocarina of Time
–Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
–Megaman Legends 2

I edited that out before you posted this =D

First Castlvania was the best.

-Ocarina of Time was so mind-numbingly boring, with so many endless cutscenes, and action that was so generic and unoriginal, I almost want to label the game “bad”.

-Ditto for “The Twilight Princess”, which was even worse.

-Castlevania 64 was fucking awesome, one of my favorite games of all time.

I really don’t understand why everyone wants a Diablo 3. All the developers of Diablo 2 left Blizzard, split up into two companies, and are now developing games(well, one is…) . So why would anyone want Diablo 3 with non of the original developers in it?

Halo is better off as a movie then video game.

Stop the production on platformer mega man (X, zx, Zero, WHATEVER), and start the production of Mega man legends 3.

Grand Theft Auto series was good, but hardly great.

Did you play the game in its prime, or 5 years after?

Because Diablo 2 entertained me for something like 3 years? I don’t care if the original guys left, Blizzard has half the people in the video game industry under its thumb, you think they can’t make a new diablo?

edit- Final Fantasy 6 is the only game in the series I like, and I don’t even consider it lumped in with the rest. Most of the predecessors sucked (4 especially) and ALL that came after sucked, more and more until finally the pinnacle of fucking suck peaked with FFX. I stopped playing them after that. Never got around to FF9, was too bored to play through all of it, maybe it got good at some point.

Twilight princess just ruled! i loved that game! thats the only reason i got a gamecube! now i wanna try it out on the wii!!!

No one has ever made a racing game as fun as F Zero for the SNES and I don’t think they ever will. Modern day racing games completely miss the point. F Zero for the cube wasn’t bad, but the glitches fucked it up, Mario Kart 64 and Podracer deserve honorable mention.

cringe

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Regarding CV IV being better than SOTN:

Meh, well, I dunno. Depends a lot if you’re a purist or not. If you defend the “old school” style of playing CV (linear levels that take place through several stages), then yeah, CV IV is the epitome of such genre. One cannot deny the graphic richness and the amazing music quality for a first-generation SNES game. However, I still can’t shake off the fact that it plays EXACTLY like the CV games before it (and even then I believe CV III brought a lot more to the table than CV IV). CV IV only had Simon being able to whip in 8 different directions…um, yay? Basically, yes, CV IV is a game that is honed to near-perfection, but once you break it down, you’ll see that is really just old school CV with pretty graphics.

Now, I will still consider SOTN the best of the series since, well, it pretty much spawned all the other “Metroidvania” CVs we see now on the GBA/DS. Now this may or may not be your cup of tea, but SOTN definetly achieves legend status for the sole fact that it brought the 2D genre to a new level in a world where everybody was hopping on the 3D bandwagon like it was Paris Hilton in a spring break rave. Much kudos to Konami for that.

Regarding Wind Waker being better than OOT:

Shit, what? One can argue about the innovation that Wind Waker brought with the graphics style and what not, but I can only see Wind Waker in one simple sight: Waterworld Link. Seriously, spending 40 minutes on a fuckin’ boat to get to randomly-scattered islands gets BORING and there is not enough dungeons to actually spike my interest. Sure, the final levels get intense, but that won’t make up for the 20 hours of boredom I spent before that.

Now, OOT…THAT game was the shit. It single-handedly inspired me to buy a N64. Basically it was the original Zelda formula revamped to a whole new level. Hell, the sheer size of it was just overwhelming. Adult Link was also pimp as fuck. All dungeons were a tour-de-force in their own right (yes, including that dreaded Water Dungeon), and kept you at your toes at all times. Add some interesting mini-games in there, and that’s a game for the ages!

(In fact, I would also like to rate LTTP higher than Wind Waker, thank you very much)

I agree so much.

Twilight Princess is awful. I said it. There’s so much to cellect between the actual story events, that you forget why the heck you were on a quest in the first place. THe dungeons are too long and the boss fights are too short. Midna is as annoying as Navi, and the Wiimote is just a gimmick.

On another note, Ocarina of time would be better than LttP if Navi was nowhere NEAR it. “Hey! Listen!” STFU fairy.

Chrono Trigger is the greatest RPG of all time. FF7 is fanboy bullshit.

The 360 version of Guitar hero Sucks solely because of the Xplorer guitar

The PS2 version of Guitar Hero sucks solely because I want to play more songs but I need to wait for the 80’s pack…

Final Fantasy X was pretty good, X-2 was not. XII on the other hand, which is often misconcieved as “X-2” has a really interesting battle system… the plot just gets a little confused.

Halo 2 on Xbox live was fun as long as you played with good players.

Dead or Alive has more value than just breasts.

Metal Gear Solid 3 was good. Metal Gear Solid 1 was interesting. Metal Gear solid 2 was neither good/ nor interesting, but it had a Katana and a gender confused transvestite, so it kinda sucked, kinda didn’t?

Dragonball Z Budokai is fun

Guilty Gear is one of the best fighters around.

Kingdom Hearts 2 had a good story,

Golden Sun 1 and 2 are quite possibly the greatest rpgs of the 21st century.

Tony Hawk’s Underground was the best in the series. Tony Hawk’s project 8 is also the best in the series, because its just the first THUG, with a different camera angle.

There is nothing innovative about Grand THeft Auto. Period. IT’S THE SAME GAME. GO BUY SOMETHING YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED BEFORE.

Soul Caliber 3’s Ninja is the greatest character EVER.

Ninja Gaiden for Xbox can be won with a single move.

Ninja Gaiden Black takes that move, completely rapes it, and then offers you an alternative.

And Finally,
after Ikaruga, they should have stopped producing Shmups, because that game is the best.

Agree. Ikaruga destroys anything else I’ve played in the genre. I still haven’t beat the fifth level without using a continue, god damn that game is fucking hard. And so much fun.

good stuff dude! I strongly agree with you!
