Also I think EoA is a pretty overrated assist in this game… I dont think it really matters though because I feel Strange is pretty much strictly a point character. I think he needs some sort of beam like assist for mixups and drones for filling the screen up with shit and allowing him to cram more shit in there making it a hard time to move. Strange is pretty free on incoming mixups so I hate having him at #2.
This a lot. After I had finalized a team I had thought I was done team constructing but now I’m actually looking to move away from Wesker now cause I feel he hasn’t been pulling his weight vs my other two (doom, hawk) in terms of creativity and shenanigans and pulling wins out of nowhere. I don’t really care how to take him to the next level nor really do I care because I realized I’ve been asking myself “How will I win if I don’t have Wesker?” when mentally constructing teams and in truth I can probably flesh out another character a lot more.
I’ma take Viscants advice and put my strongest character second, it’s worth trying out for the experience at the very least, even though I really like teams that can be flexible in order. Now I’m just on a quest for a better anchor/assist that compliments Hawkeye second. Or maybe Doom second… I hate and love team building.
Wonder what happened to Strange anyway. It seemed he was gonna be a problem for a lot of reasons, in the end, they made his stuff as unsafe as Vergil’s (without the gdlk range no less), opted out on giving him a decent low, gave him a phoenix-like teleport making up-back a great deal effective against him, gave him a projectile game that takes years to set up, assists didn’t end up as good as initially thought out to be… oh and can’t forget dat jizz-face victory screen
He will still be a problem. He just has to get started, he needs an assist that can buy time to set up the daggers. He is designed to be the pure zoning. He controls space to set up fullscreen TODs on a lot of the cast.
for the point about doom’s cc, it is pretty cool that if somone is in close you get the throw instead of the missle.
Personally at least for now I don’t think first is that hot for him either unless you have one of the 2 assists that push people back on hit or block well (Storm Whirlwind, Vergil rapid slash). He needs space to play ideally and standard assists just don’t really give him the space he needs to set up everything he wants. A fast assist like Akuma that absorbs projectiles is a nice alternative although it doesn’t push back very far if they block it. Most of Strange’s moves are either unsafe or don’t push back very far into where he ideally wants to be to control the screen. His inability to move backwards quickly on his own kinda makes him a sore spot for first without really specific assists.
If you have him second you can just have him as another hurp durp 1 frame DHC character if they make any bad moves on point or with their assists. If you see them call a bad assist and then point character isn’t blocking either, you get free 2 for one and Strange gets in there hopefully with at least another meter at that point. Strange with meter + assist is ideal because you can force people to respect moving towards you due to vishanti and that gives you time to set up eye of agomotto which basically is your anti rushdown tool once you get it out. Then you should have time to set up yellow graces for your self mix ups or call assist and port.
Getting space so you can set up all 3 cross ups at once (M dagger of denak, assist + port and yellow graces) all ready to go at the same time basically gives you a chain of left/rights where they’ll eventually get hit by something. I think the ideal way to set that up is to have him second.
The main problem with Strange is that he is designed so his ideal position on the screen is far range hiding behind eye of agomotto to stop mix ups. Unfortunately they gave him almost no tools of his own outside of spell of vishanti (which isn’t really safe on block at closer ranges) to push people away. Eye of agomotto is his mix up/rushdown stopper but it has absurdly long start up which no rushdown character gives a shit about if you start the round with him.
This means you have to find a way to get Strange stocked up with meter and have an assist so he can ideally push people out and then set up offense with his teleports, assist and self assists all on the screen at the same time.
All of Strange’s specials are designed so that they need some type of assist help to maximize themselves. His normals aren’t really for much but combos and counter hitting people with their high priority.
Long story short it makes him a character with a lot of potential but extremely difficult to play strategy wise in a game where rushdown is as strong as it is.
Honestly I have been having a lot more success with him by teleporting like a complete fuckhead. Basically just call Chris and teleport behind, if it hits IP loop combo, if they block Mystic Sword L. Try and find time to call Sentinel then i can start to set up rings or whatever (even though I think assist+teleport is still waht his netural game should be about).
I really like Chris Machine Gun assist for Strange because it is like a beam and it keeps you grounded if it hits you their like IM Unibeam… but I find Chris wayyyyyyy better than Iron man in this game. Also if Chris gets you to block drones once he can start some pretty significant chip.
Niggas still be sleepin on Redfield.
Yeah I think you’ll do alright with that strategy until people learn to just jump around to avoid the assist. With most assist+port situations the real problem is the assist and not so much the point character. It basically forces you to play a character solely reliant on assist+port for pressure/mix up and in the long term that’s not going to cut it when he has 2 other specials that he can throw out at the same time that are basically self assist+ports. The idea is to get space to sandwich them with all 3 so they have to get hit by something.

Next events = Curly Mustache event, Winter Brawl
Yeah I already know about those two so I guess we got a while to go. I’ll just wait for WB then.
Once I get Sentinel drones going I do end up getting that space and rings going… but Porting+Chris a lot in the beginning helps me to set it up.
shots fired at Dieminion?
I can’t wait for this tournament.
Okay, so what are C. Vipers matchups like against the following characters? Which ones do you think are in her favour, even, and against her favour?
Zero
Dormammu
Wesker
Dante
Trish
Vergil
Hawkeye
Magneto
Doom
Firebrand
My Opinion (this assume teams as always):
Zero: 5-5 Even (Maybe slightly in Zero’s Favor)
Dormammu: 6-4 Viper
Wesker: 6-4 Viper
Dante: 6-4 Viper
Trish: 6-4 Viper
Vergil: 6-4 Viper
Hawkeye: 6-4 Viper (might be worse)
Magneto: 5-5 (Even, maybe slightly in Viper’s favor)
Doom: 6-4 (Viper)
Firebrand: 4-6 (Firebrand)
Zero - Zero
Dormammu - Viper
Wesker - Viper
Dante - Evenish, with Vajra Viper has edge
Trish - Evenish, with Vajra Viper has edge
Vergil - Viper
Hawkeye - Evenish
Magneto - Evenish
Doom - Viper
Firebrand- Definitely Firebrand
Viper beats Hawkeye clean. I’m pretty sure about that one.
Viper, seismo and if meter will go through projectiles. A good Viper should be able to force Hawkeye to play more of a rushdown game.
Hawkeye can’t use projectiles freely, and he can’t twitch punish anything against Viper for a variety of reasons. He also has no answer to focus, which is a tools Viper players (me included) tend to forget about mid match.
What do you Viper people think about Viper-Taskmaster? The matchup feels really good to me, but I don’t get to play decent vipers much.
Better than Hawkeye because he can fire arrows at that downward angle and he has shield skills. I would still say its in Vipers favor.
