Spencer disagrees with that. You can also chicken block/throw most teleport mixups anyways, while you can’t really with akuma’s mixups.

That’s silly. Good luck opening me up and doing your fancy schmancy ToDs while i’m filling the screen with swords, busters and drones. Before anyone brings up Wolverine/Wesker, they do control space, just in a different way. They’re best when they’re forcing you into a small zone where you can’t do much and basically limiting your space to a minuscule area where their options>>> yours.

Space control (zoning/footsies/going in/neutral game, whatever the fuck you want to call it, is all about controlling the space to put yourself in the position where your character wants to be and performs optimally) is easily the most important aspect of this game

People won’t believe in Strider until they see more than some guy mashing buttons with orbs in x-factor.

lol at viscant saying that the first real vergils he seen was at frosty faustings and then two minutes later saying that all are frauds and he will need to pick up the character and so everyone what he can do. lollolololol

A bunch of people who play him mash on his assist as well which gets him blown up, so people think it’s easily punished or risky, when it’s really not if you use it appropriately.

^^Eh, I thought current metagame was space control into TOD combos/mix-up into death off of a hit with anybody, not just space control in general (i.e. rushdown- oriented space control). That would explain why raw zoning isn’t popular atm, right (that and it doesn’t always lead to combos off a single hit)?

He did that in mvc2 too :stuck_out_tongue: only more so.[/FONT]

Meh I played Omnisscythe and Ace who both live in the U.S and i’m in Canada, and it’s really not that bad. If the online community didn’t have shit connections (omg, i have 15mb dl speed, my connection must be gdlk):(, knew how to config their routers to reduce lag and stopped running on wireless, the online would be fairly decent. Of course, this is a game with invisible mixups and stuff where if you’re one or two frames too slow, you’re fucked, so it really isn’t designed for online play.

There’s nothing I see that’s ugly about it. You already know what you’re getting into if you’re gonna be playing a TOD, XF ridden game (the one that was supposed to be more reset heavy). Luckily people still drop their combos and opt for resets often enough that you still get somewhat of a show out of the game at high level.

Plus people haven’t played this game hard like SFIV over years where everyone just knows what dumb shit is probably gonna happen. I guarantee you like 70 percent of the shit people complain about in this game, if the game was played hard for 3 years without too much changes all the top players would just have answers fast as lightning to all the stuff people are usually getting hit by right now. Sans like really tight assist pressure.

All newer games have that threshold of where lesser players get more and of course it’s going to be magnified in a game of accessible TOD’s and XF. You just gotta know to expect that coming into the game. If you’re good you’ll still win especially now that the easiest to achieve stuff like 5 bar Phoenix and air throw into DHC glitch has been removed/nerfed.

Yeah the threshold for getting hit and not getting hit in such a fast game where you die so fast is not a good look online. Even basic shit that’s easy to deal with offline like Lvl.1 Frank’s slide becomes a big problem all of a sudden online.

People are seriously sleeping on Ghost Rider. I think I may pick him up just to prove people wrong. He can get happy birthdays easily.

Vergil can get happy birthdays easily too.

I would agree people are sleeping on Ghost Rider…but nowhere near the level they’re sleeping on Vergil. Vergil is practically handing out DayQuils to people hoping they wake up.

Not really sleeping, it’s just that in this game, a one-dimensional playstyle that is ineffective against over half the cast can’t really put you anywhere above low tier, especially when combined with a seriously limited air game.

Coupled with Deadpool’s low assist he’s capable, but outside of a having long range low assist for full screen unblockables, he doesn’t appear to have much in the way of potential

EDIT: Forgot Felicia and She-Hulk as options for ranged lows

I think focusing on combos is the biggest tell tale sign someone is a novice. When I first got into trying to take fighting games seriously, I would just go into training mode, learn a few combos, do it on the other side of the stage and then go play. Then I was like “wtfffffffff why can’t I hit them? I wasn’t close enough for that to combo wtffffff?”.

Yeah, movement, positioning and space control are not things easily taught through videos and text like combos (yet? Maj’s footsie guide is probably the best yet at teaching this), it’s something you have to get through experience.

I’m sure people are sleeping a decent number of characters. Not surprising when the game is less than a year old. >_>

S Tier = Dante, Wesker, Zero
A+ Tier = C. Viper, Doom, Dorm, Magneto, Spencer
A Tier = Hawkeye, Nova, Phoenix, Taskmaster, Wolverine, Strider, Deadpool

B+ Tier = Akuma, Felicia, Hulk, Nova, Storm, Super Skrull, Trish
B Tier = Ammy, Captain America, Dr.Strange, Frank West, Jill, MODOK, Morrigan, Nemesis, Ryu, Sentinel, Spider Man, V.Joe, X-23
B- Tier = Chris, Thor, V. Joe
C Tier = Arthur, Chun Li, Ghost Rider, Haggar, Iron Fist, Iron Man, Phoenix Wright, She Hulk, Shuma

**D Tier = Hsien Ko, Tron **

**
Explanation for some of the variation:**
I’m undecided with Dante being S tier because they took away his anti-air A, his invincibility on hammer and he can’t chain A-B-C-S anymore for simple BnBs, however the simplified second variation cancelling definitely makes him easier to play. Dorm not having great lows makes him less of an S tier character in my opinion despite his buffs since he relies on tri jump S and teleports to get in. Moved Nova down because he only has one good low and this generally hurts his mixup potential. Moved Hulk up because with the right assist (primarily Sent Drones) and his hyper armor, he is free to rush down with little worry and keep constant pressure without fear of teleports or overheads and an air throw can lead to a character kill without X-factor starting with 1 bar.

so, what teams do you think dominate the thinking of meta-game right now.
I’m with Nissan (we have had a few conversations about this) on saying we will see alot of Zero/Dante/Sentinel(Strider, Jean or some other BS anchor) or Zero/Doom/(Strider Dante Jean Sentinel) teams due to their ability to fill the screen with bullshit nearly 100% of the time and the multitudes of play styles that can go into those teams as well.

other teams that I can see being 100% godlike and retarded to play against
Viper/Dante(or Doom… )/Strider… I puke thinking of the possibilities of this team

Dormammu/Magneto/Dante… my team at the moment, and I think this might be the best Dormammu team in the game in terms of mixup and damage output… then again this is my view of things, but Dormammu I feel is 100% bullshit as a point character the more and more I explore his options

Wesker/Doom/Strider… the #1 vote getter for team scrub MvC3 edition in my books, damn team plays it self almost, as well as having a retarded, nearly Jean-like anchor in the back(my opinion)

Magneto/Sentinel/(Doom Dormammu Dante… Strong solo anchor) this team will probibly end up high-mid tier, but overall I see this team being a real chore to fight on any day with any team almost

What other teams(or pairings) do you all think will come to run this game eventually

It’s a reward thing. If you keep the other guy out for 30 seconds and do about a half a bar, and then they get in once and kill you, you lost the exchange.

I guess you could take a wide definition of space control to include getting in, but keeping the other guy out is really the hard part, and the part that takes space control skills.

Anyways, all the top tier (and most of the second tier) characters have excellent tools both at long and short range. The only one that doesn’t is Wolverine, and he’s probably the most controversial inclusion in tier 1/2.

He has a lot of unfavorable situations that are only made bearable with certain assists like Hidden Missiles, Jam Session and Vajra. He struggles against teleports, people in the air, small characters that move quickly, counters, etc. That’s like 80% of the cast right there.

He has awful mix-up and awful setups on incoming characters. He does average damage. He doesn’t offer the team crucial assists and is assist dependent, so you see him on point pretty much.

Every top player has shut the door on him pretty quickly or thinks he’s ass. I think it’s safe to go back to sleep on Ghost Rider.

Also I think it’s dumb when people pop in with one-liners like “You guys are sleeping on _____. I’m not going to share my reasons why, so peace out!”

as an aside, hidden missiles is one of those things I almost think should be disregarded. There’s almost nothing that they don’t make good.

Why do you have Wright above H-Ko & Tron? He’s arguably one of the worst, if not the worst in the game…
