I never played Alpha 3 besides casually on GGPO, but if you are talking about landing in a crouched position, then yes. You can use hard knockdown (like Thunder Sword in that video) attacks to start an infinite, land crouching, jump and then do your loop. As long as you land crouched hitstun never resets.
That’s so stupid ahahah. This game just gets better and better.
I would love to see a change to how damage scaling works. It kind of pisses me off that one doom rep into standing h otg sphere flame does almost 700k damage and you have to extend the combo by nearly 10 times as long to produce like 100k more damage. I don’t get this game sometimes
Yeah they said they wanted to make the game more reset based but nothing they tried to do is working at all it seems. At least that will actually happen for Skullgirls.
That’s what James Chen’s theory was when the first TAC infinites first came out.
Someone help me out here I’m deployed and can’t see the video at the moment. I played A3 so from the sounds of what I’m reading you can do a TAC combo then just land crouching and you will keep TAC hit stun? Do you still have to connect the crouching normal the same time as the last normal from the air?
Let me clarify my question. Are we saying crouch cancel in back or can you literally crouch into a combo and still negate hit stun? I’m hoping for the first because that would allow slightly more time to combo afterwards instead of having to hit the exact frame as originally thought
It’s not crouch canceling per se. It’s just that the jumping attack animation doesn’t transition to a ground animation when you land, which as far as anyone can tell, is what triggers the hitstun to revert to non-static mode. Crouch canceling worked because you were bypassing the neutral state which is what allowed the opponent to tech flip; this is not quite the same.
Like A3 though, The state of the guy being wailed on doesn’t seem to have any effect on any of this which is why the OTG infinites also work. The OTG’s that work are airborn moves like smart bomb, :df: +:h: glaive with Ammy and maybe webzip (really haven’t tried). So you hit with the OTG and you can still meet the condition of hitting with something right as you land.
I suspect this is partly why it’s impossible to throw someone if they just hold up. There are no actual landing frames unlike 99% of all 2-D fighters; you just go right back to pre-jump which can’t be ground thrown.
ah ok maybe that will help me find a better infinite for Spidey. Thanks
Seems this topic has been dead for awhile…I’ve been away from the game for a few months so I’m out of the loop. Any rumors going around of a patch/update? Or anything significant at all
Its dead for a reason. The game is still playable and there most likely won’t be anything else. Especially if Capcom is focused on making DS4 and looking for a fresh ground to make fighting game money from.

Some people I spoke to at EVO said they have heard that a balance patch/update of some sort is still coming despite Nitsuma basically saying this version is final. Other than that radio silence so when Capcom says “this version is final” this time they might actually mean it.
I’d rather just get an Uncanny Edition though. I want more characters!
Didn’t Niitsuma say he was adjusting the game when the TAC infinites were discovered? What happened to that?
That’s what he said but it’s very likely with Capcom moving on to other ventures that it may never actually hit the masses.
He is done with the game to be honest, patching this game costs too much. UMVC3 sadly does not have the same budget as SF4 or SFXT, so I doubt that Capcom can afford UMVC3 patches.
During the panel he stated that the team couldn’t find a way to fix them/said that players discovering ways to “beat the system” was part of the series, so they are staying in. So the official word from Capcom is that this version of UMvC3 is the final version.
Sales wise the main 360/PS3 game did average but the Vita version sales were very strong, I guess because the launch library for that game was very lacking. Either way I’m pretty sure with the three different versions of the game they are past a million in sales and could be justified in doing a new version as DLC/new disc/whatever, it just seems unlikely that they will.
They can’t patch out shitty hitstop bugs but they patched every other exploit? That’s a riot.
As much as I’d like a new version of the game that’s honestly less likely than the infinites getting patched.
Yeah Marvel 3 is just way too sandbox of a game to be wanting them to patch it over and over again. Even if they were to patch the TAC infinites, someone would just find some other exploit that’s more character specific and that would basically be worse for the game if that character is one of the top tiers any way. It’s like trying to beat a bunch of world class hackers all the time. By the time you fix something they’ve broken something else. It’s just way too futile of a game to try to take on and “fix”.
The one thing I really like about the TAC infinites is that a set of characters in pretty much every part of the tier list can do it and some have very practical ones. Yet…at the same time they are more difficult to do than some of the other infinites I’ve seen in games like Japanese TvC, Last Blade or other games where infinites were regular. It’s not just another exploit that only the big boys can do.
One of the biggest parts regarding the sandbox aspect of this game was Capcom making sure that fans were happy with there being no burst system. The burst system is put in most other animu style games as a knee jerk way to beat the combo system implemented in the game. Which helped the Japanese version of Tatsunoko a bit since without a burst system that game combo wise was literally more broken than this game (2 button infinites that are extremely practical that you can start off c.L’s).
At least all the infinites so far have proven to require more work than anything that was dominant in the Japanese TvC. It’s just a game that the players will have to balance for themselves.
The most broken things regarding this game IMHO don’t even involve the combos any way and people are still playing it regardless. Dying in one combo? Gonna have to put the glasses on.
I don’t really mind one way or another if this game gets another version, I’ll continue to play it regardless. I just want to know if there is anything to the rumors I heard at EVO.
Nitsuma’s response to all complaints at the EVO panel was basically “LOL GG”
I still want Gene.
