Oh, yeah, and my dad didn’t even use a belt. His hands were chiseled to shit from all the labour and workouts he had done in his life. His palm was a living callus. He would bring down that palm like fire and brimstone and it would shave off your skin like a damn cheese grater. Man. Real talk, my father had a belt like this. This thing was so worn out the brown leather was a burnt-sienna-turning-orange-sherbet color and it’s a damn wonder of science and the universe that it never cracked/fell apart with how taut it was from years of use/reverence to it.
Of course, if you ever heard my parents say get the good one out, you KNEW you would look at every seat you had to sit in the next day in contempt while simultaneously thanking God for all the bus and train poles you’d have to hold onto on your rides about town for school.
This also reminds me that my Grandmother used to have a switch in her house when she was raising my mother and aunts that she’d call “Dr. Do-Good.”
Edit: Oh yeah, that was some bullshit too. The younger ones would almost never catch a hot whoopin, but as more kids filled in (I’m the oldest of 5), your intensity rating would go up. Even more bullshit, my parents started not beating they ass anymore. I’m there like “oh fuck this shit, how you not going to beat them when I got all that to deal with if the breeze hit you wrong?” Even more bullshit is in recent times when we joke about it and both my mother and my father would be like “nawww, we didn’t beat you like that/that much/so fiercely.” Revisionist history ass bitches. 
I dunno, all the folks in my family tip, which is fucking weird thinking about it. Me personally, I’ll tip if I have it.
