Yes, it has immense replay value. You’ll replay the entire game before you finish it once, and you’ll like it, because the combat engine is that good. Some of the enemies are a bit unfair though.

I suggest you “acquire” the pc version since it’s easily the best one.

Because I can’t stream from a console? Thus limiting me to pc games? Which I essentially never play anymore?

It was so original when it came out, that game was awesome. It’s aged now, sure, but it IS the pioneer of the genre, remember.

DMC4 is also pretty great, just has far too few stages.

Meh, isn’t it kinda similar to DMC3 where you really just replay some of the same stages in different places?

Kinda find it funny too how you fight all the bosses all over again like in Megaman, but that’s a different case.

Yeah it was good when it first came out, but that game did not age well at all.

It does feel a little aged, but I’m playing through the original again in the HD collection right now. the combat still feels really smooth and responsive. The worst part is the camera and even then it’s not too bad.

The combat system in DMC1 is primitive, still more intuitive than God of War games though, for example. But even then. The music, the setting, the atmosphere are presented so well.

dmc4 is pretty subpar as far as story, missions go. But it has like the fucking deepest combat system in any game, and has a pretty steep learning/execution curve. Plus all the little thing you have to remember, like how to combo each character, and how to fight annoying enemy’s like. Blitz, Mephisto, Angelo’s, etc. That’s why this game has ridiculous replay value.

Yes, the backtracking is the worst it has been in the series. Like ran out of time, so just make you play in reverse with Dante bad.

BUT the combat system is the unrivaled with on the fly style switching. Gilgamesh is a gimped Beowulf though and less weapons overall than DMC3 but access to 5 styles on a whim is something you need to experience.

Nero should not be written though. Him and Dante are more than enough overlook the level design flaws.

If you want a good story and dialogue,** none of the DMCs at any point** were going to scratch that itch. They’re all campy, corny B movie stuff and Dante’s “character” is inconsistent if pay attention. You picked up DMC games for the gameplay and DMC4 more than delivers in that aspect.

You can definitely put in a hundred hours just playing Bloody Palace and your favorite missions.
