I’d place skies of arcadia much higher but atleast it’s on the list.
Lol at Persona 4 being number 2 on that list, but whatever. Chrono Trigger is still #1, so all is still right in the world.
I always thought Persona 4’s battles/dungeons looked really boring, so I’m surprised it’s that high. Really glad to see Chrono Trigger and Paper Mario: TTYD high on that list though.
Mate, didn’t you play that 80 hour game like 3 times already? Pfft, I’m sure you agree with that ranking subconsciously then. I didn’t play Persona 4 yet though, so I can’t judge, + it’s a fan vote based list, and it changes year from year, but generally it’s pretty damn good.

That sense of dread. Nocturne, why are you so good. Of all the JRPGs I’ve played this is the most memorable and that atmosphere is unparalleled. If people didn’t play this game yet please do.
Lol Invisible Woman has the same VA as The Boss/Pearl
Persona 4 is terrible.
Least enjoyable out of the franchises entries aside from the first one
Nocturne > Persona 4. P4 takes like a century and a half to complete (the first time around at least) only because of all the SOCIAL LINK GO and time you spend grinding out fusing shit together. NG+ doesn’t offer any challenge whatsoever because you can pretty much just skip everything story-related and bulldoze dungeons with your OP Personas. Nocturne is simply much better in terms of gameplay and difficulty balance. It really punishes you for doing stupid shit and teaches you to be well-equipped at all times (and for all situations), whereas Persona 3 and 4 lets you off the hook easy by giving you a TON of downtime which you can use to prepare for the inevitable boss fight before the deadline. If you fucked up, that just means you suck at RPGs. Plain and simple.
I would have FF6 second on that list, personally. P4 is all anime and fanservice-y, which is nice, but no way should it ever top the classics.
First boss, or one of the first 3 bosses in Nocturne is some of the most eye opening shit ever.
Shit was haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard
I thought a lot of people thought PM > PMTTYD
Matador and his freakin’ Red Capote lol. Oh, you don’t have Dekaja and/or a designated buff/debuff Persona? Tough luck kid, hold this Andalucia real quick. Go to your last save point.
Yeah, same here. PM > TTYD by a long shot. Best game (or at least RPG) on N64 IMO.
I played Persona 3 Portable after Nocturne and Devil Survivor and was terribly disappointed(all games were played 2012/2011). The story was nowhere near as epic in scope, the persona system doesn’t make good use of the lore behind the Megami Tensei Demon anthology, shadows were boring as fuck in comparison to fighting motherfucking Thor in a colosseum to death. The social link system seemed half assed, and the town was pretty much static and only changed between the months, the game felt padded with a lot of filler. Tartarus was broken as fuck in Persona 3 and the battle system was extremely boring because of the fact that you can switch Persona’s after extra turn which allowed you to one round ko most opponents.
I can sing many words of praise for Nocturne though, the game is just too goddamn cool, the atmosphere is godlike, the battle system amazing, the lore and mythology of the world sick, and the plot is fantastic. Devil Survivor had a great plot but the most generic ass cast with plenty of unlikeable flat copy pasted characters, Yuzu especially was completely terrible and unlikeable despite her massive plot(with the worst ending ever). I do like the amount of replay value Nocturne and DS have due to the amount of choices and endings you can achieve too, choices that actually matter which is surprising for a JRPG.
Best part about Nocturne?
Dante wasn’t ass kappa. He was godlike as shit save for the True Demon Ending boss where you can still use him, albeit much less effectively.
I loved that the game was challenging and gave no fucks, untill you learned to abuse the system(which you wouldn’t know unless you read FAQs or got tips), and even then it was cheap and gave no care, yo Dragon Eye up your ass. I actually got stuck on one of the Knights of the apocalypse and lost like 30 times in a row until by accident I left one of my wrong party members in the party who had the sleep spell. Got a lucky sleep and won the battle because of that. The game was cheap, Mudo/Hama actually mattered, and made you fear going into new areas because you can get killed in any random battle.
I loved the fact that your party and main character were completely customizable too, something that’s missing from the Persona series, but I can see the angle they are coming from there.
Yo I didn’t read any spoilers or know anything about the game when playing it through legal methods on my PS2. So when I saw Dante the first time and that theme came on, my jaw dropped.

Doubt I’ll change much this season.
There wasn’t much RPGS on the N64 anyways lol
Though now I’m getting flashbacks to Quest 64 and had a memory card that was jammed into my only working controller that wasn’t functional. Auughhh the pain of running through that game without saving. Another brutal ass game.
Only other RPG I could think of was the Pokemon Stadium series. Spent hours on both.
I still want to try Resonance of Fate/End of Eternity and The Last Remnant
Definitely one of Nocturne’s strongest points is the music. Holy shit was Shoji Meguro on point. All the tracks were atmospheric and powerful when it mattered.
Then something like this kicks in and your brain just explodes from all the hype.

That list is garbage
Persona 4 at number 2
Persona 3 at number 36 when its better than Persona 4 in just about every way imaginable (story, setting, characters, battle system that isn’t dumbed down for bumpkins, etc)
Dragon Quest doesn’t make an appearance until number 35
Alpha fucking Protocol is on the list
Final Fantasy V over IV
No Fire Emblem, Resonance of Fate, Star Ocean, Shadow Hearts, or Digital Devil Saga
Seeing Persona 4’s meteoric rise to most overrated RPG of all time makes me actually appreciate what the former champion, Final Fantasy 7, actually did for the genre.
Also I’ve played most of the games on that list but not New Vegas yet I still refuse to believe it’s the 28th best RPG of all time, especially if it’s made by Obsidian
