UMvC3 OTT: F*** online

The theme song of the tier thread

The biggest change DmC has is that they made it more like GoW. Check out the attack radius and the size of the field. Except DMC2, the areas were mostly confine and you didn’t have many 360 or 180 degree attacks as you do in DmC. Here if he is surrounded, he’s hitting everybody with his attacks since they made a very intentional design choice in removing accuracy (targeting is still automatic, no lock-on button afaik).

They got the idea from Mahvul hitboxes.

Man, Strange on point is a pain in the ass. Strange on point online is even worse.
The only good part about it is people are pretty free to sj.up-back - teleport.

I don’t either, it actually looks like a pretty good game.
What I mostly like about it is that it’s a game that has a clear identity allowing it to stick out from the crowd due to the design of it’s presentation being consistent throughout all aspects of the game (visual design, music, story, cinematography etc), it’s extremely rare to see a game with such devotion to it having it’s own style.
Meanwhile the actual gameplay being based on the DMC series allows it to keep a solid grounding to make sure that everything works well enough from a gameplay aspect so the game doesn’t end up being so focused on it’s style that it completely forgets about having substance.

I probably won’t be buying it, but that’s more due to me not being so much into the genre than due to the game itself, however if it turns out well enough I’ll definitely give it a try.

And now I await the hatemail…

It’s a great move by Capcom. They knew this Dante was terrible, so they decided to have Ninja Theory make a new Vergil that wasn’t as different. However, they put him as DLC.

DLC is the future I’m afraid. It helps sustain these larger budget games.

Otherwise, why not just resort to creating gimmicky indie titles or iPhone based games? The costs are cheaper, programming is not necessarily elaborate, and distribution is easy.

Larger scaled games like Resident Evil or Devil May Cry are getting more expensive to make and require much more resources. However, games themselves are not getting much more expensive to sell.

However, the market is larger and distribution costs are overall cheaper (digital and disc based format as opposed to cartridges). It still does not cover the extensive costs to make a high quality game (since back then, voice actors, motion capture, and other elaborate things were not considered back then).

A lot of game companies are banking on franchises now. Selling iterations of Call of Duty is a very stable. One knows it will generally do well, and it doesn’t take a lot of new resources since it’s a sequel. Design and concepts are already laid out, and most of the graphics/programming just needs some fine tuning. Same goes for Sport franchises.

When you have a large scaled game like this upcoming DMC, inevitably not everything can be sold altogether. Splitting part of the product to be sold for an additional price may seem sketch and greedy on their part, but given what it takes to make the game to begin with, it’s kind of understandable. This was the case for SFxT as well.

The main problem however lies with Capcom’s PR and ability to withhold information. Had the on-disc in SFxT had not been immediately leaked, I think there would’ve been more anticipation towards the upcoming 12 character DLC.

Watching that trailer, it looks like a DLC that’s worth $5.

Just thought I’d give my input.

umvc3 on ps3 anyone?

Bullet looks cool, IMO.
Also… DEM HOT PANTS! <3

Haven’t seen a single bit of Black Ops 2 gameplay yet, although I doubt I really need to.
I won’t be getting it. I’m a Counter Strike player anyway.

What i really bothers me about Bullet is her stomach…there is none.

I know what you mean.

I feel bad for her internal organs.

I feel bad for her back.

I’m not optimistic, but I won’t pass judgement till I play it.

I will say this, it looks better each time they show it.

Capcom really shouldn’t have revealed the game in the state it was in two years ago.

I’m only like 15 miles away from Ninja Theories HQ. Want me to go down and have a word, guys? XD

I think it’s looking good too, tbh. The new character design is pretty fresh IMO and the environments (and how they change) looks like it’ll be a lot of fun. I just hope it’s not too linear, and full of triggered events, etc. Want the environments to feel organic.

The biggest turn off for me is the locked 30fps. I expect it will be one of those its a good game in itself but a bad game in the series type of thing. Im sure if it wasnt named dmc and it was some different protagonist people would be more optimistic.

I’m willing to give new DMC a chance. I’m not the type to make snap judgments.

My biggest fear is still:

  1. change Dante’s personality

  2. ninja theory is working on it.

this dmc talk has reminded me i’ve yet to finish dmc3
i wonder how far i got

I can’t help the feeling they just ripped off the world from Shadows of the Dammed.

Quality post.

I think the big problem is the bolded section. It should have been downloaded content as opposed to disc locked. Even if it woulda been a little white lie (about having costumes already ready, ‘unfinished’ characters) it would be a lot better than having it on the disc. A simple decision like this would have looked MUCH better. Heck I would have accepted a second disc with balance and characters. But I think the problem with SFxT was that there was just altogether way too much DLC with part of it feeling “pay to win” with the gems, regardless of how good or not they are.
