UMvC3 M.O.D.O.K. changes/notes

You should join the Iron Fist/MODOK brigade.

In all honesty, Iron Fist’s overhead/OTG assist looks useless for MODOK. Skipping it.

Crumple punch looks interesting. It has low range, but it crumples and will probably send airborne enemies into a spinning knockdown. No hitstun decay there.

Dragon kick does a wallbounce and is fullscreen. Don’t know what to think about that.

Psionic Blaster looks like it’ll be nice to cover the way in, because his wavedash is soo fast, and you just slap on hidden Missiles for Doom buffs, help for MODOK and Iron Fist.

I am sold on Strange as a character, and I think his Bolts of Balthak (sp?) assist is a lot better than what people give it credit for. It’s main problem is that it whiffs on crouching opponents, but since everyone blocks high against MODOK the vast majority of the time this doesn’t seem to be a problem for him! I don’t think Bolts are a true blockstring like Vanilla drones are since the two beams are so delayed, which gives MODOK in theory ample time to mixup the opponent with things like tick throws and/or crossing up the opponent in between the two beams.

I also like Strange’s projectile counter hyper. You could be able to throw out random Psionic Blasters (but not Barriers sadly, since they are uncancellable unless this got changed) and other shit and if your opponent tried to punish you with a full-screen beam hyper you could immediately cancel into Killer Illumination, DHC to Strange while you’re still invincible during KI and punish with the projectile counter. It’s meter-intensive, but it’s another thing to keep in mind.

I’m also holding out for Rocket Raccoon as well. He was the one character I immediately wanted to see first when the 12 characters got leaked.

I hope that Frank does well with him. I like Frank in TVC.

I actually like his style a lot, and he looks like he’ll have huge damage combos… but no airdash, no air mobility at all(!), no sword/weapon, and no teleport/crossup…?? He’s gonna fall head first into every single mixup in the game. He hopefully has a sick pressure game (the wrekka overhead won’t cut it I don’t think) or some awesome team utility with his other buffs? If not, I think he’s going to be meat for the upper tier.

I don’t really know much about him though… I haven’t seen much. Maybe I’m mistaken about some things.

Have we seen a spinning knockdown assist yet in UMVC3 though? Perhaps they too are affected now by hitsun decay as well? (balloon bomb assist? :sad:)

If it’s a spinning knockdown, they always reach the ground. Same with soft knockdowns, but things like Shield Slash don’t cause any knockdown, so they are subject to hitstun decay.

She-Hulk’s lariat causes a spinning knockdown when it hits an airborne opponent. Deadpool’s Quick Work causes spinning knockdown. And it hits low.

So the only other known change to MODOK is that his Killer Illumination is mashable for more damage…

I think we aren’t getting the drainage effect, though the canceled air normals and mashable KI is seemingly confirmed now.

I’m totally underwhelmed by these changes… he seems to have gotten the least in the game!

Is there anywhere we can petition to get some REAL changes?

We need prejump fixed, and a workable c.L. That’s all I ask lol

Looks like MODOK literally has the least amount of changes in the Marvel cast. He really deserves a Magneto like flight if they going to buff his air dash abilities. Even Shuma Gorath got more buffs than MODOK…

Hopefully they haven’t nerfed Trish and Deadpool. They work pretty well with MODOK, and Trish has an unblockable setup that MODOK can use to his content.

If they fixed those, he could be top tier.

I just want MODOKS Jets to be a constant hitbox. Aka, kick my jetstream and take damage! Jump right under me an take damage! MODOK flies on your head and you take damage!

We should make up a bunch of names and send a petition to Capcom for his Cr. l to be a little jet blast thing. Even if it doesn’t hit low, it’s still needed.

Bah, I already talked to Nitsuma about buffing MODOK, he said…lets see how well UMvC3 does first. Good news is that not all things appear listed, unless thors new move was erased.

Yeah, and when I spoke to Seth he basically told me the prejump stuff is here to stay… Which sucks because I’m thinking it will always make him ass upclose. Combine that with a c.L that people can crouch under (and it’s his ONLY move that can hit people that close) and it makes him REALLY ass upclose lol

I’m just salty because my already crap team that I put so much work into just seems to be getting worse lol! The new changes even tell me that my fancy Cap slash loops wonn’t work anymore either! :frowning:

Can someone explain to me how air dash cancelling will actually be useful for modok.

^ Say you hit someone with a J. S bounce, go into flight for a j.M>j.H now you could air dash cancel that j.H to get you back to the ground to land a launcher.
So combo’s like Launch, into j.H flight cancel> j.M >j.H > dash > J.m >j.H > dash etc. can now work. Think of magneto doing the stairway combo’s.

He won’t be able to do those stairway type combos, because his airdash ends flight.

He will do some nice stuff, though.

All I can think of is sill stuff say box dash baby kicks cancel baby kicks into air dash into more baby kicks. Think in the fashion of negating pushblock easier. Really you can create a wall of baby kick hell and no doubt other combo opportunities.
