Firebrand/MODOK is looking really strong to me. Firebrand is a beast and Bon Voyage is like a free ticket to the corner for exchange combos or setups. Anyone else finding good teammates for MODOK in ultimate?
Would youy, or anyone, mind transcribing it for the rest of us? I’m curious if it’s any easier than what I’ve been doing…
…and balloon bomb assist does hit OTG, but seems too slow to be used in any conventional manner. :sad:
Didn’t Balloon Bomb assist cause a spinning knockdown state until the opponent touched the ground in Vanilla? I was using Nova’s centurion rush into it and they would spin for a while then air tech.
its the universal TAC that you came up with, Nos, and I think they messed up the notation for the up TAC combo :

obviously the first combo is notated wrong, but you get what they are trying to say
MODOK is a lot better than i thought in ultimate
As for balloon bomb, I used it in a combo with Dr. Strange and it seemed to work just fine o_O
Oh and yes, I’ve been practicing that combo for hours now since im trying to get it 100%. Flight was so hard, but now its the damn M that comes after it.
Thoughts on some characters that go with modok
Firebrand: I agree with the free corner carry. I tried firebrand for a while but I don’t know. He was really good when i tried him out, but i’ve been in the lab with strange and modok for the most part
Phoenix wright: UGH no… He only had the missle low assist which would be a good mixup in the corner, but since the start up is way to long, i said no. If anybody finds anything that can help modok, please post, because I didn’t really see much between the 2 and I really wanted phoenix on my team
Doom: still fun and crazy
Dr. Strange: really good with modok. Both have insane corner games, but strange isn’t really cool with mid screen so i guess psych blast from modok plus teleport would be a good cross up. B-Bomb, like I said before, actually helped me do some combos, and nobody was recovering out of them.
RR: I thought the liitle guy didn’t have a chance with MODOK, but RR is actually good with strange. Ground and air traps are great for the team teleports since it keeps them in their place
Iron Fist: To be honest i tried the captain america combo by using iron fist’s kick where he flies across the screen. I was only able to get 6 cubes. its very similar to the beginning of the cap corner combo, its just after the cr.L, you call assist> then use Light anaylyze cube> force beam ( 6H)> into Mid analyze cube
Also I had a question. I’m trying to corner carry The opponent with modok ( basically when modok does 2H wave dashes) any way that’s easy for some people?
Both of those don’t really work. The 1st one for obvious reasons, but the 2nd one should be x4, not x5 (typo? I dunno)

yeah, its x4 and not x5 for the last one. That is what they have listed, though. Even though there are some typos, i’m still really impressed with the ultimate guide and I definitely recommend it to anyone that is on the fence.
I also just realized that what you posted lists M cubes instead of L cubes too… Oh well, the basic idea is there.

was wondering what you guys consider his go to BNBs with/without assists? that is my biggest problem with getting to learn him. like i dont have a linear direction to take my combos, i just freaking try to do shit on the fly. like if its midscreen i’m doing somethiung into wall bounce into H cube into wavedashes relaunch.
if its corner i’m doing combo into relaunch into slime then hyper (could i possibly use assist to hold them after the slime and get a wall bounce? probably…)
^ the ABSOLUTE EASIEST corner TAC would have to be:
Down TAC
air H into L Cube
Air H into FLy~L Cube (same as line above, just plink S right before you hit L for the cube)
[air M into L Cube]x6
air S (spike)
OTG c.M into L Blaster
Hyper Psionic Blaster
It’s only 8 cubes… but I don’t know how to make it any easier or generic than that.
As for BnB’s, just use whatever you can reliably do! I generally go into launch, into relaunch, and then try to use up all my assists/bounces, but different teams will have different stuff for different situations… again, I think the important part is just completing the combo, because it sucks when they end up air recovering or rolling behind you as you whiff a move and then proceed to rape your face. You can work on figuring out how to eek out more damage and execution in training mode, but in-game, you can’t be dropping the ball.
I use his (crH, airdash M)x2, s, jm, jh, js combo or its variants as my b&b. Almost always takes them to the corner or yu can extend it with slime~flight, jS, l baloon, s, jH, l blaster, addf js to take them full screen. From there, you can extend the combo further or go for resets, unblockables, or setup modoks corner game.
kensanity what other characters do you use other than modok to give us an idea on what a decent BnB would be?
So question DOKS, although this is more of a universal question but MODOK suffers because his normals are too slow. What do you do
when you get into the stupid throw breaking over and over madness. If i try to do something else than forward or back fierce I get thrown it seems and the likely hood that we’re pushed far enough away MODOKS fierce is way to slow to win out.
OS backdash and crouchblock immediately. Or if your opponent’s H is slow enough, buffer Killer Illumination. Incredibly risky, but really it’s al he’s got.
I think he uses Cap/MODOK/Doom?
Here’s why I don’t do well in tournaments. How do you option select backdash? Lol, I’m technically idiotic at this game.
Not sure if the MODOK board knows that, but dashing with a H button is a throw option select. You can also do a Ground dash OS, and you still can get throws.
It still exists in Ultimate, and nearly any character with a dash can abuse this trick. This video didn’t show you, but it does explain why it works. It doesn’t have to be M+H, it would be S+H, L+H.
Doom had a gabarge Aerial H in vanilla, but he fixed his problems by plinking his M into H to create A Instant Jumping M option select. MODOK can do the same by dashing with L+H, he would get instant babykicks+throws. This is even more useful now that he can cancel the kicks into more kicks, and if the oppotent to chicken blocks…you can get a throw.:smokin:
Edit: If you airdash with H, this creates a option select with throw teching. This means you don’t have to use MODOK’s Hs to break a throw.
Isn’t MODOKS OS pretty ass too considering jumping H? Granted it seems that MODOK MAY have more priority this time around. What’s everyone go to post throw combo right now?
Well, that vid ironboy pointed out was for airgrabs, but the technique works just as well in the ground, which is what I was mentioning in my previous post.
He has a completely invincible wallbounce lockdown assist.
