Ultra changes (location test)

I know a number of you guys provided Capcom a list of deserved changes. I also know that they tended to be long, which might have overwhelmed them. You know how Capcom Japan is, nearsighted and sensitive and shit. They don’t seem to want to give Vega more tools, so perhaps requesting a small list of these hitbox changes and such will get through to them.

While I think Red Focus will be good, I don’t think DWU will really change things much. There is a video of Ibuki ripping shit up for about an hour. Still vortex even with DWU, and RF makes the offense even more crazy.

A lot of the meta game will change because of this. For example, people are going to have to rely on new BNB combos that can be OS to a focus breaker or end on a focus breaker. Otherwise, you will end up doing your normal BNB that won’t break focus and you’ll eat a full blown RF. Plus, RF earns you 2x revenge meter…

Don’t worry, Ibuki is one of the few characters that still maintains her vortex/oki game, and that’s due to her kunai having long active frames.

Before everyone goes and keeps blaming everything on Zeus, I just wanted to point out that it was just the c.LP link buff that he thought was “too easy.” He actually wanted the EX ST to stay because he thought it was a good change. Well that’s what he said on camera, anyways.

It was still a foolish thing to say, no basic jab link should be balanced around you dropping it sometimes when it matters most, that’s crazy. (Like seriously, the patch notes could just say “c.LP links drop at least 10% of the time.”) And Zeus’ input might be exactly why we lost the link buff. But Capcom probably already intended to nerf him from his Ultra alpha version.

IMHO what we’re seeing is something a lot like Sentinel getting his health nerfed a month into MvC3. It’s knee-jerk balancing. Vega seems extremely good in the Alpha of Ultra, while Ken, Guile and Rolento manage to slip under the radar because all eyes were on the Vega buffs and not them for some reason. So they nip Vega in the bud, and then let all the other stupid characters ship as-is. These characters are now getting crazy nerfs that are really over-doing it, especially Guile. Developers tend to go after whatever seems OP during week 1 play, just look at Deathstroke. Vega just happened to be the victim that time.

In a way it’s a blessing that Vega didn’t keep his buffs. He would have got nerf-hammered so hard if he shipped like that in the arcade lol

Cross up jump lol seems fine. You have to remember when you go for the forwards hit you will use jump hp, and when you go for the back you will use jump lk. Now people might actually
Get hit by the jump hp into your ex rcf combo. Jump lk crouch Lp crouch mp ect will be the cross up combo as many said.

The usage of this is increasing the effectiveness of knockdowns. Every ex fba will lead into a much better mixup than we currently have. You can make it ambiguous by placing it just on their head. I am positive the ability to cross up with VEGA’s weird air normals will lead to all sorts of fake cross ups.

It’s not necessarily the buff I would have given him either but, well it is significant.

It seems to me that this USFIV Claw would be really, really interesting if he was like that in AE 2012.

I’m just reading this now, but this really baffles me. “If you’ve been using Vega previously, I don’t think you’ll feel uneasy with him in the new version, but be able to use him without any major issues in this outing as well” is possibly the worst euphemism for “You got no changes” I’ve seen.

That whole article was schillery and Claw’s was the most laughable.

On the subject of Vega I still believe that there’s a stealth-buff to RCF that will prove to be his best change of them all (it having more hitsutn allowing you to combo into lv.2 EX FA).

The Blanka one really, really pisses me off. “Oh hey, he had difficult links, so we made them easier.” Edit: Oh shit, and he had a shitty time waking up, so they gave him an escape. Oh hey look, Bison gets shorter charge times, plus far standing cancels that connect. Look at Gouken, gets to cancel new attacks into guaranteed fireball damage, plus gets a faster jab to get people off plus in addition to THAT he gets a wake up option that hits low? Oh, and look at E.Ryu, he gets better hit boxes to hit crouching opponents on his hop kick.

All of this is shit we’ve asked for. Glad to see they listened to us but then mixed up the character requests and gave them to other characters. Or they thought Vega players are so good that we’d request these buffs for other characters.

I was thinking the same things. Vega has all of those problems, but they did not address any of them.

I spent a tremendous amount of time playing Ultra Vega at NWM and I just wanna say that you guys really shouldn’t count out the changes so quickly. I spent some time talking to Combofiend about the changes (announced and hidden) and he said that Vega can do some unbelievably sick shit now. He specifically said that if you play Vega like a defensive wuss, you’re not going to see much of the changes – if you play out of the box and get creative with his offensive tools, you’re going to find a LOT to like.

Close MK got buffed pretty dramatically (I know this 100% on hit, I can only assume on block too) and can now combo into cr.LP. It used to be +2 on hit but now it’s at least +4. Again, this is a change that I can 100% vouch for in the build I played at NWM that I haven’t seen any mention of elsewhere.

I am 95% sure I combo’d cr.LK cr.LP cr.MP, and when I asked Combo about it he said “no, you’ve always been able to do that, you’re just feeling yourself in Ultra and hitting things more consistently!” which he’s obviously mistaken about.

Hitconfirming into super is now crazy easy (cr.MK cr.MP xx super, or any other variation that you’d usually do an ex wall dive) and hitconfirming into ultra with RFC is also ridiculously easy. Far LK, cr.MK, and cr.LP all cancel easily into HK xx RFC -> Ultra which is huge. Yeah, it’s expensive, but it’s a huge tool to have.

It also felt like I was in general more positive on block for a lot of normals because my frame traps were a lot more effective but I could be wrong on this one – maybe people were just pressing buttons more. I have a hunch, too, that there are plenty of other changes that we’ll find. I think there might be something new with the mask (making it so picking it up is a command is a clear indication that maybe there’s some more substantial reason to take the mask off – Fchamp was saying something about this to me but I didn’t find what he was talking about). Also, I know that Rose got some hidden juggle property stuff so I’m pretty sure we might have gotten something like that, too.

Can’t think of anything else much right now but don’t hate on the game until you play it.

Vega’s meter game has always been unbelievably simple – we only have to worry about having one meter for EX wall dive. While some characters have to worry about 2 meters for FADC etc etc, we simply didn’t. Now, we can become an absolutely terrifying threat at three meters – best footsies normals in the game, lots of which now easily combo into ultra? Seriously dudes, how can you not be hype as fuck about 500 damage off of your amazing footsies?

Ultra Vega is the fucking best, and if he isn’t while in your hands then it’s your fault, not his.
