Marketing seems to be a foreign concept to capcom’s Marvel team. They shoulda brought in red rapper
This holiday season, if you could only get one game or system…It wasn’t gonna be umvc3.
More than likely it would be
Mario
Zelda
Skyrim
(New 3DS models which everyone is raving about)
Modern Warfare
Saints Row
Batman
Assassin Creed
Starwars online
(not in that order)
Even if you had to choose 2 games 9/10 its not gonna be umvc3…umvc3 is pretty much for those who enjoyed the 1st…And the sad thing is alot of people still have hate for mvc3 for not being mvc2 so you lost those people, then you have those who are upset umvc3 is coming out 9 months after mvc3. So you lose that group.
I really hope capcom didn’t expect great numbers for umvc3.
This really upset me when i see people say this…12 dlc characters really? It was a time when umvc3 could have been a sequel to mvc3 easily.
If capcom would have released this as DLC and charged 29 bucks for it people would have been crying that its dlc and not a disk release “what if i go to a friends house and want to play” blah blah blah…
This could have been released next year with this content at a lower price for dlc and people would still have cried…“This is it after a year, the game is still broken” blah blah blah…
I think casuals don’t like this game because they don’t feel rewarded for winning.
I mean, in SFIV they can play runaway, mash for reversal or outzone you when they feel outplayed. Even if they suck, there’s a tactic involved in their wins.
In MvC3 they can get some wins mashing crap or with X-Factor, but the same time you get close and totally destroy their team in one combo, they notice they totally suck, that they didn’t earn those wins at all because they don’t know what they’re doing. So they quit playing.
Given some time, I don’t think people will still be saying this game is more balanced than Vanilla (because Vanilla was relatively balanced) nor will they be saying this game is more fun than Vanilla. I don’t think I like this game at all.
This is exactly where I am at right now. I want vanilla back. That game wasn’t done, new shit was getting discovered to the very last day. There’s still so much in that game we don’t know that would change it completely and now we don’t even have that chance.
Agree to disagree. The forced removal of Dark Phoenix from the metagame (as it appears) will by itself make the rest of the cast more interesting. There’s so much more team variety in competitive play than I ever would have expected and I think that’s only going to increase over the next year.
On the other hand with very vocal complaints from top level players about things like XF, I don’t know that I see it being in more than maybe 2 more EVO’s.
This report MUST be some serious bullshit. I’m not sure whats going on in the states, but in Toronto it was a different story.
I waited one week later to buy the game.
Walmart Malvern - SOLD OUT. Sold out FIRST DAY.
Walmart Scarborough - SOLD OUT. Sold out FIRST DAY.
Next Day
EBGames Malvern - SOLD OUT PS3.
EBGames Scarborough - SOLD OUT PS3.
Had to go downtown to get this game. So either
- These Major Retail stores bought a smaller quantity of the game, maybe too many Vanillas.
- Since the game is lower priced, it moved off shelves faster, and probably need to sell less to “break even”…
I don’t know but its really hard to say. I cant remember the last time a Game Sold out AT WALMART!! FIRST DAY!! Must have been Sold out EB first right?!
At my gamestop the line for UMvC3 was HUGE. WAY bigger than Saint’s Row 3. I was actually surprised because I thought I was gonna be the only one in line lol. I even got some of their XBL gamertags.
If that chart in the OP is right though, a lot of casuals probably weren’t gonna pick this up. There’s way too much bullshit for casual players to deal with. Most of the people I’ve played online, I remember the names from late Vanilla.
no line for any game stores near me. stock was very good(bay area)
btw, keep thinking of the VITA UMVC3 on the long run. it’s a launch title, and will have huge success their for the casual front.
I bought UMVC3, Saints3, and HaloCEA on launch day. I’m reviewing them for the website I write for.
It makes me sad that this game isn’t selling as well as it should, but it’s not surprising. As soon as Capcom realizes it has a good franchise/formula for a series, they beat the hell out of it (Megaman in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, anyone?) People are catching on to that kind of mentality…I think.
It bums me out that it may mean less support for us, but maybe it will lead to better quality next time.
^ people aren’t catching on to anything…
They by madden and Modern War Fare year after year and not for the story…Heck most people i know with BF and MWF don’t even play single player at all.
Sadly all game developers are doing that these days. Look at how many different series have yearly releases. And they wonder why their sales start to slump…
This game came out the same day as with what 3 other games? Saint’s Row, AC, Halo 1. Bad timing entirely.
Assassin’s Creed is starting it, COD has BEEN doing it, Halo is probably gonna get there soon… makes me sad.
Don’t forget MW3 and Skyrim (I think).
Also, do you guys think I should mark the lack of H&H mode against UMVC3 in my review? Do y’all think I would be fair in doing so?
MW3 was the 8th and Skyrim was the 11th. Pretty close too so it didn’t help it at all.
Megaman certainly would have helped a bit. He wouldn’t single-handedly rescue UMvC3’s sales numbers but there’s definitely a fair amount of people who haven’t bought this game because of the lack of Megaman, or would be enticed to buy the game if they found out Megaman was in it.
At the very least, Megaman or Venom would’ve helped sales a whole hell of a lot more than Rocket Raccoon did.
I like most of the characters that Ultimate added, but they really didn’t add anybody that “high-profile”, and I think that was a mistake. Even just one or two really well-known, popular characters (Megaman, Rogue, etc) would have been a good idea. As it stands, Nemesis and Frank are probably the most well-known of the UMvC3 addons, (to casuals that is) and they’re not *that *popular.
