Super Skrull has two awesome assists. His Orbital Grudge works nearly just as well as Akuma’s Tatsu. It has armor and it causes a soft knockdown, although it won’t cause a soft knockdown in UMvC3. And his stone smite is super useful for mix-ups. Combine it with Wolvie’s berserker slash and you’ve got an easy free combo.
And while a lot of his resets aren’t safe, they’re very tricky and damaging. And he still has options for safe resets. I usually get by fine with his damage output alone though. It really seems slightly above average if anything to me.
I’ve been maining Super Skrull for a while, and I still think he’s underrated. He’s not one of the absolute best for sure, but people just overlook so many of his options. Air meteor smash is going to be awesome.
My team is Wolvie/Skrull/Doom by the way. Although lately I’ve been playing Wesker/Dorm/Doom…
Yeah, I remember Seth being confronted about how OP Sagat was, and him replying with (more or less, it was a long time ago) “Well, he’s an 8 foot tall kick boxer, of course he’s going to be really powerful!”
Ugh. By that notion, shouldn’t Claw be the most powerful character in the game? Fists and legs are kinda irrelevant once you’ve gotten a claw through your chest.
Remember, the reward for blowing someone open with a Psyche Lock was getting health back. I could see a Psyche Lock super that did sub-250k but gave you back all that health too, probably as a command grab or a ‘one-strike-confirm’ like Wesker’s L3/Jill’s kick.
Honestly I think Skrull is mad underrated. He has at least one unblockable mixup on most characters upon entry, something which most of the cast can’t say. He has resets after hypers, is amazing to DHC into, deals decent damage (IMO), assists give him stupid easy combo starters if your timing is good (You can catch them with the command grab right as the block stun is ending and there’s not much anyone can do about it. Also Meteor Smash crossups are both safe and effective with the right assists), and has a good way to punish from across the screen, soon to be from anywhere on the screen.
If he’s bottom 10, then he’s a great example of what a low tier should be: not as good as the rest and requires more effort to win with, but is still viable in tournament play.
Oh that would be even better, and would explain why it would be hard to balance. I mean, look at Shuma’s health drain… >.<
he is certainly really fun to play, why take out his corner combos, but shield slash now having otg ability, double jump, and cartwheel buffs. Awesome.
Really think cap should be stronger and faster than he is, but dude still is greatness. Finally seeing his powers in action on screen was dope.
I love using task, hulk, cap, ryu, trish, and sent in the game. I am also excited about frank who was just fun in tvc, and i am interested in nova, vergil, and iron fist and what tvc characters they all take from.
Iron fist may be a combo of ken the eagle, cashern (he has that lightning fist), and hurricane polymer
Nova could possibly be a mix of the tekkamen and ippatsuman
Which would be tremendous to me.
Still hoping for daredevil dlc or in the next game, rolento/yatterman-1/joe the condor hybrid
I really think virgil could end up an amalgam of hayato, karas, soki, and spiral. With some hyo of rival schools thrown in.
I’d like to see them do something with Jill…more along the lines of making her something closer to her Mvc2 counterpart. Making her Feral Stance useful, damage increase is GREATLY needed for her. Shuma needs a stamina boost, Skrull needs a stamina boost, taking out vergil and adding a character from a different series…like Onimusha.
Too lazy to quote everyone who made a point about Skrull, but here’s me addessing pretty much everything. I’ll preface by saying I know Skrull, I spend hours and hours with him in the lab, I’m on the Skrull forum every day and I’m aware of all the technology he has that exists.
His damage is not good by any means. Mags, Dante, Task, Doom, these are characters with good damage. Skrull can hardly get passed 700k with one bar. His command grab can even get him to 600k, and none of his command grab resets are safe. He’s not a battery by any means. He doesn’t have a projectile so he gets zoned out. His normals suck, he has hardly any safe moves. I would love to hear some of these safe resets, I don’t think he has any that aren’t on incoming characters. None of his assists are even in the top 30. Orbital Grudge should have more armor. Inferno is good, but it doesn’t hit OTG, Hail Storm is a way better DHCing hyper. Super Skrull doesn’t excel at anything. Honestly, calling him a Jack of all trades is being generous.
There are some good things he has going for him, his teleport can cross up, his health is good, and he has great range on his command grab, and some cool (unsafe) reset options. Overall he’s a high risk, medium reward character that relies on really good reading. But he’s obviously bottom 10. He needs fly and a projectile. He needs to be able to at least get to 650 with his command grab. He needs to be able to do way more damage. Rolling hook should come out way faster and have a different input. Maybe he could have a counter/shield (based on invisible woman). He needs a lot of work.
Onimusha and Sengoku Basara are probably a little dubious in a versus game because a lot of their characters are historically-inspired or just straight up historical figures.
As for Jill: I don’t think more like MVC2 Jill is the right answer – we’re not the only target demographic here, and RE5 Jill is the correct choice. That said, I feel like the best thing they could do is just rip Mad Beast install right out in favor of an actual 380-450k level 3, preferably one that’s easy to combo into like Mags’s.
With this I almost think she’d be fine if nothing else got better.
Lol, I’m sure you are, first Bowser, then Cap, nice to know you aren’t getting the raw end of the deal this time with a character you love. I hope the same thing can be said about Hsien-Ko and Skrull in UM.
It really depends on what your “viable in tournament play” means. If it’s to enter something like WNF and kick some butt, make it far in the bracket if you are lucky and have fun then yes even Hsien Ko is viable for tournament play. If it’s to get into the top 32 of EVO (let alone get beyond that) then no, you can defeat some scrubs with him but against a random good Magneto player he will be a liability in your team.
In the MvC3 panel at EVO, somebody asked if there would be a guide for this game. That is, a guide that’s just like the guide we have now: very informative, with frame data and good character strats.
It’s coming, but there’s one thing this guide needs to add: a list of changes for all returning characters. I mean EVERYTHING, no matter how minute a change may be, it needs to be included. Hopefully the guide includes this info.
We already have a good amount of Sword using characters on capcom side.
Zero, Dante, Strider, Vergil… does capcom need anymore? If we where to elect a sword character then it should be in the marvel side. The rightful character in my mind is Psylocke. She wins a huge amount of categories of a good character for the roster.
Marvel Sword user
She’s a female which is what Marvel side lacks
MVC nostalgia (she was one of the popular vs series characters)
