Been a while since I’ve posted or been playing consistently. I looked around on youtube to try to find some newer jill gameplay and I ended up finding some matches of NSR that haven’t been posted (as far as I know). I’m not sure if NSR knows about them but here they are. The combos are all online combos for the most part, but the decisions in neutral game you can learn a lot from.
Wow that Hulk vs Jill matchup really sucked watching. To see the Hulk player spamming the standing H was kind of an eye opener. I always thought that Jill matches up well against Hulk before then. I guess seeing NSR and hearing Paulo not do so well against Kane is proof enough to the contrary.
Yeah, pretty much. You have to punish everything, when Hulk can just H and force his way in. Jill’s buttons aren’t fast enough to hit more than once. I don’t have a solid gameplan vs. Hulk, only don’t commit too hard on going in. Oh, also, most mixups don’t work vs. him.
well from the times that i have played Jill vs Hulk is definitely a hard match-up for Jill but there are some key things to remember
Jill vs Hulk is gonna be more of a bait and wait type of game is how i see it. At the Start of the Round the best thing to do is try and Tech the grab then Up back to make him either Wiff his H or Just soo you can block it. Dont Call assist at the start of the round vs hulk ever due to the fact that jills normals dont hit fast enough to break armor and the assist will get hit giving a free happy b-day.
You mainly just wanna make sure your atleast 1-2 screen away from hulk when ever you try to call assist. This Mostly applys to beam assist or projectile assist. Now the best way to try and get a hit is to either make sure the assist is on its way and do a CR M or just annoy Hulk by constantly feral dashing. If the assist get hulk to block go for a quick mix-up if it doesn’t work and they block just feral dash back and repeat. You never wanna try and challenge hulks buttons with Jill unless you have a assist out.Also you wanna remember to never try and go for fake cross-up mix-ups without assist to keep them locked down but Cross up mix-up work vs Hulk if they love to mash H due to how slow it is soo the H will go the wrong way.
Jill vs Hulk drones is like pretty much the main thing you wanna do is avoid the corner at all cost. Jill doesn’t have much to use to get out of the corner vs hulk drones except supers and Feral soo try and keep yourself mid screen soo if hulk trys to do Gamma Charge+Drones you can use Jills low hits to crouch under the drones and still hit hulk.
*Quick tip if you know the hulk player tends to do gamma charges then run away from it Use Jills Arrow kick to catch the backwards charge soo you can get a free knockdown mix-up out of it
I haven’t been playing Jill for too long but this is just my insight on how i see the match-up. If im wrong feel free to correct me
If standing H couldn’t hit jill from behind then honestly the matchup would be a lot better. I mean there are a variety of little things you can do to make the matchup better, but there is only so much that can be done.
The thing is hulk doesn’t truly have to rush jill down, Gamma wave is a decent enough projectile to fight jill because of it’s high durability, it completely covers the ground (where jill wants to be), and Jill really can’t use MGS as a neutral game tool because of Gamma crush. It really forces jill to just play respectful and try to put the hulk player at distances that he might make a mistake. Furthermore hulk has so much health that you much reset hulk in order to kill him, but hulk is one of the worst characters for jill to reset.
Personally I use back jump canceled somersaults on hulk. Due to his large size you can still connect sometimes for the combo (consistent in the corner) and if he throws out standing H you are already able to block. Since I have to reset hulk I usually end the combo with somersault into a TK flip kick. When hulk flips out in the air he will either call out an assist, hit buttons, or simply wait to land depending on the player. I try to just observe the player and get ready to somersault/feral cancel the assist if called so I can attempt a somersault mixup before hulk lands.
But yeah as already stated, it’s a hard match because most of Jill’s unique tools aren’t effective against hulk due to his option select/armor and his invincible super. A lot of it comes down to what assists you have behind her and how you use them.
Well if you play against a hulk that does Gamma Wave Zoning you can Ground Block dash then Jump Block or Press a button if its at a good time.The one thing to remember though if you ever get hit by Projectiles you should always Neutral tech so you can get up quickly and move around the projectiles.
*One thing too make sure when you ground block to not Pushblock so you dont put yourself in longer blockstun
Have you guys seen fchamps new tierlist. do you agree w/ Jills placement on it. to me she seems a little low but alot of people in the stream thread agreed pretty much w/ the list. Do you think she should be higher.lower or does it seem correct.
I agree that I feel Jill is a little too low on that teir list. I mean I understand why, she has very little high level exposure in the community and she has very limited in team utility. Particularly in the fact that jill has some matchups that are hard to deal with, and she can’t convert directly off grabs like most characters can (im aware that a couple assists make it possible though). Honestly feel that at a high level of play she should at be B tier or so.
I’m going to go on a rant here, and tell you that I think his list is bullshit. As well as any of the other “Top Player’s” lists. Solely for the fact that in a graph, they are trying to measure this value called “top tier” and “low tier”. This makes no sense because you can’t fking measure it. I have yet to see a graph that has “Utility” vs. “Damage” or “Soloability”.
To be “top tier” you have to be the best at SOMETHING. You can’t just throw it into a graph just because you think this character is better than another. WHY are they better? What are you measuring that puts them there? Honestly, a “Top Tier” is a label you use to put something on top of the list on something that is measured. “Top Tier” in “Utility” puts them at the top. “Top Tier” in “Damage” puts them at the top. Not some arbitrary “Oh I think Vergil is better than Phoenix Wright”.
Thanks for the video, I was actually looking for a combo video using the THC. I wanted to see if you could achieve better damage with it or if it was better to DHC.
Damn, that was almost a good comeback on that Strider. One advice I might be able to give is I think you need to use more triple piercing for vs. Doom matchup. It keeps him out better than scatter shot. Everything else looked good.
