ULTIMATE Balance/Tier talk thread

@Nini:
Piercing bolt is such BS it eats all of level 3 Buster and still goes through to hit Zero, the same for mystic sword. >.<
@DevilJin 01:
The fact that Dante can’t hit confirm off the same situations is an issue though. Stand B is no longer quite the blade of a deity cutting through the heavens it was before.

Ammy got a worse though, you must admit. Some matchups got far more lopsided for her with the air-dash nerf. How do you approach someone like Ryu or Magneto with any confidence now?

I dont know man, I just dont see it. Like, you’re going to be in blockstun and I’m going to be in the air coming at you with overheads, that’s really all I see an arthur match up being. Then again, I havent played against him much at all, so yeah.

If anything I would say s.L is nerfed but s.M feels the same to me. Whatever I don’t get with s.L anymore as far as anti air, s.M now grants. Plus Dante still has 5 other special moves that can account for some of the best anti airs in the game any way.

Dash along the ground like every other character in the game is supposed to. If you’re not dashing along the ground against Ryu or Magneto stocked with meters…you’re doing something that will get you killed no matter the character. You shouldn’t have been doing that in Vanilla, let alone Ultimate.

It actually cleanly beats level 3 Buster and H-Hadangeki at the same time.

Oh and just so I have something to back up my earlier claim of higher damage from Zero’s combos:

Just curious but…

What do you guys see when you think of an S-Tier char?

Cause I can’t even comprehend how Wesker, Dante, Nova, Phoenix, Strider make it into S tier and Zero and Viper don’t

His J.S is a great defensive tool. It beats a lot of things. Also, there’s air-grabs into OTG J.S which put’s him in a great situation for mix-ups or continued zoning. They really made J.S into an omni-use tools that covers a lot of his old weaknesses. Also, air-dashes are pretty easy to zone since you can’t block anymore. Jumping daggers/crossbow will shut that down pretty well.

I’ll have to get to you back. SRK is glitching too much for me for some reason today.

S Tier = whatever beats me

This. She’s actually pretty fast along the ground walking, dashing or wave-dashing.

She did get worse but only marginally and any of her nerfs is negated tenfold in any XF. As of right now, I have no idea what I should do with this newfound speed other than activate Vale of Mist and scare my opponent shitless.

Her ground dash is pretty fucking ass though. I mean, it’s slow as balls. You’ve seen it so much you might not think about it, but in vanilla she air-dashed fucking everywhere and it set up so much good shit. I mean damn, on my ammy team in vanilla, I used her st.M more than her ground dash at mid range if I wanted to get in that way. I’m not an expert on the character, but she cant wave-dash and her ground dash sucks. All I’m saying is her bad matchups got worse and some of her good matchups are not as good any more.

EDIT: Am I missing something? She can wavedash? I mean, yeah I guess she technically can, but I wouldnt call it a reliable means of getting around. Again, maybe its just my mindset of using tri-dash characters that makes me think anything on the ground is slow.

Viper and Zero outside of S with the tools they have would be incredibly scary, it would take something like Phoenix starting dark to push a character that far beyond those 2! O_o

It’s been dumb today for some reason.

Her wave dash instantly improves with her 40 percent speed increase as anchor which people will for sure keep her at now. Let’s see Magneto and Ryu do shit while she’s running at 40 percent speed increase plus slow.

Random Note: LOL at new alert system. Shit comes up like facebook alerts on the bottom of the screen now.

I think what Ivy’s lover means is that we should rank characters without assists because even if its a team game, when it’s anchor vs anchor (which happens a LOT) assists really dont matter. But more importantly this probably stems from the fact that in Vanilla, any character with an OTG+Haggar became a great character no matter where they were on the tier list. Although IMHO, there should be two tier lists: with assists and without. Im not great with tiers but my thing is how do we rank characters with assists? There’s lots of different team combinations so how do we compare two characters if the match-ups change depending on their assists?

All three of those characters are pure evil… but two of them are evil consistently.

Those guys that could abuse Haggar (Viper, Dante, Doom, Sentinel, etc) were already good for other reasons, he just made them better.

You just rank them based on whatever their most preferred assist is. When people ranked Wolverine in tier lists they weren’t ranking him with arthur daggers assist, they were ranking him with evil karate dude in mind.

You can account their anchor abilities also into the tier list but very few characters have anchor ability as their number one tool. Dark Phoenix and Felicia are the only 2 characters I know of where durping them out in XF is the absolute best thing about them. Actually Ammy is looking like she falls into that category now with her XF3 buff also making her a character that can completely control every other character in the game once she turns on XF + slow.

NINJA EDIT: Pryde made me shorten my sig. I feel inadequate now.:sad:

It isnt like every assist does something amazing and unique though. Wolverine with sent drones or doom beam is almost as scary as him with akuma tatsu because all three do the same thing for him, just in different ways. In that way, I prefer to just think of it like we’re assuming the character has the ideal assist type for whatever he needs to do to play optimally, or he has x-factor 3 if it’s an anchor.

EDIT: fuck, ninja’d by DevilJin, he said it better than me.

I think people are comparing Viper to other chars. Key word, I think

To me an S-tier character needs to have one of two things:

-The ability to completely alter momentum, or force a change in tactics in the opponent (as long as that leaves you with an advantage)
-Versatility, damage, and the ability to control the match once they get going

Based on that, I think Zero and Viper are both S-tier. I would also put Doom, and for now Wesker. I think Phoenix, Dormammu, Strider, Firebrand and Felicia are all on an edge and could fall either way depending on how tech develops for the cast, but all potentially could end up S-tier.
