Wesker lv3 is not the most damaging in the game, that would be Akuma’s. And im not counting PR or Vergil.
I also dont agree with him having the best normals in the game, they are very good, but not the best.
Because Spencer:
- Doesn’t have Wesker’s derp normals
- Doesn’t have Wesker’s teleports
- Doesn’t have Wesker’s gunshot that they conveniently gave teleport macros with
- Doesn’t have a lvl 3
- Can’t deal chip damage
- Can’t block during his zipline
- Can now be air thrown out of his zipline
- Has a vastly inferior command grab
- Requires some execution to get the most damage possible
- Can be predictable and easy to deal with, especially when he doesn’t have an assist
- Has some really awful matchups, against those Felicia/Wolverine that can rush him down easily, also against those Taskmaster/Wesker/Hawkeye that can shut down his zipline
In another words, he’s nowhere near as versatile as Wesker.
Can wesker do 1mil of a air trow?
Does wesker have a standing overhead?
Does wesker have a bionic arm?
Im not saying that spencer is better than wesker, but i think the two of them are in the same boat.

So I been using Firebrand since day1 and theres all this theory stuff about him being a beast but I have yet to see it. Even ChrisG doesnt use him that beastly(He is just a great player). Unblockables can wipe out a whole team, but I have yet to see anyone get even close to it. My main issues with him are his low damage output and hp. He doesnt have the same kind of mixups/pressure as zero (at the moment) and all it takes is one hit to kill him. And zero and viper can 1 hit kill most of the cast without need of an unblockable set up
So many times I get the unblockable going and get a nice flow, but to keep that up the whole match against a good player leads to me messing up once, getting hit, then a 0-death combo. On the other hand when I fight a Firebrand I just wait for him to try to zone with fireballs or block an attack and punish to kill him in one combo. What is it that makes everyone say he is so good? Or has no one really been able to show it yet?

It’s only been a month. It’ll be a while before we see all the new chars unlocked. Hell, some vanilla chars still haven’t reached their max.
You can’t combo into Akuma’s lvl 3 so that’s not relevant, even then Akuma’s is doing 492k while Wesker’s is doing 517,500

Wow you are in complete denial if you think people will just up and drop a popular and high tier character like Wesker for whoever you think is worth it. They won’t, the only thing that will cause Wesker droppage is more nerfs and a bunch of people would STILL play him online and you would still see him in tourneys.
@** Swedish Chef I have already said earlier in this thread that Spencer is one of the best characters in this game because he is a great point and his angle assist help too many characters for me to list but as a Iron Fist player I did mention how much the angle grapple improved Fisto.**
I also said one of the best Iron Fist teams is Iron Fist/Spencer/Doom. because they get people out the air running from IF and they increase his combo damage with their assists. Both are also great characters that can convert any hit to death even if he dies. I think this is one of the best IF team and I would play it if I didn’t dislike Spencer the character.

lol@ discussing wesker again
Demon can actually do up to a max of 510,000 damage without X-factor actually, which is still less than no glasses Wesker’s, but it’s only by a very tiny amount.
Also I would like to add that there are actually ways of comboing into Akuma’s Raging Demon for example Haggar can tag or DHC in Akuma to land the raging Demon after landing a counterhit headbutt on the opponent which puts them into a stun state.
I’m also fairly sure that the move can be landed while the opponent is in crumple state meaning that Iron Fist, Nova and Viper could potentially crumple the opponent and then DHC into Demon.
That’s a pretty bad breakdown for obvious reasons

It’s very hard to analyze things from very few matches, if you’re taking that into account you’d also take into account that I 2-0d Wentinel who ended up taking Flocker out of loser’s brackets. A lot of Marvel is how the players are playing at the moment. I feel that Flocker’s team is exceptionally strong against my team as it has one of the best points against my points and one of the best anchors for fighting my second two characters. That said I feel our skill levels are pretty equivalent. Anyone judging something off of such a limited scale for determining match ups needs to rethink their positions. It can influence it if say some technology I used was unknown and prevents Zero from using buster or Flocker found that in the match up his command dash is safer than ever thought possible but that’s not what happened. I controlled space then rushed him down successfully when I won, he went in then mixed me up successfully when he won.

I don’t agree with the Spencer hype train. I think he’s probably somewhere in the A Tier, possibly on the lower side of it.
[LIST]
[]His normals up close are slow and nothing special.
[]His air movement is unsafe and gets his assists blown up regularly.
[]His mix-up is average. His fastest low is 7 frames (and you all shit on Chun Li for only having a 6 frame low that reaches WAY further). His overhead is 21 frames (aka, blockable), and his command throw is average speed with average range. His best mix-ups are left/right bullshit with assists, and again that’s risky for the assist since he’s committed to a zip line. That part of his game is always one Shockwave X-Factor Shockwave from losing it all.
[]Doing huge damage is nice, but it doesn’t set characters significantly apart in this game. His TODs are very accessible though, I give him that. He always has done monster damage.
[*]His assist is a very nice combo extender for some characters, and it works well as a left/right mix-up on incoming characters, but it’s not an essential assist. Combo extender assists are not nearly as valuable as assists that fill big holes in gameplay. Some characters need shit like Jam Session or Taskmaster H Arrows to be playable. No one is going to be stuck at full screen thinking “god damn I just wish I had Spencer’s Slant Shot right now”. No one’s watching Trish being lame at the top of the screen wishing Slant Shot was available.

And I think tournament results back this up as well. I’m not too concerned with what Combofiend’s able to do with him because it’s fucking Combofiend and he’s the best at Marvel right now. Knives is a great player to watch, but he also runs Spencer with 2 of the best assists in the game, and not everyone wants to make that investment in supporting one character. PR Rog’s Spencer was brand new at NEC, and I hope we get to see more of it in the future, but even it was a little rusty to start.
landing a counterhit headbut from haggar is not nearly as useful as landing a hit with Wesker and doing about 600k damage before you do his lvl3
Yeah in the end Marvel matches are just drawn out rounds. You can’t even really call them whole matches because of the team aspect and how there basically only is one round per match. If you’re like Justin Wong or Mine good…you have a good shot of staying up until winner’s finals and there were plenty of people who got got early in the winner’s bracket who could have been in winner’s top 16 for the Sunday also. It’s a good thing in one way because it makes it so the game’s matchups are really interesting and how you can literally create tools to make up for issues in matchups.
The problem is you just simply don’t get enough time to adjust to your opponent in a 2/3 match format unless you’re like the 1 percent of the 1 percent (and even then they still get got sometimes). XF especially doesn’t help the cause at all.

this i completely agree with. also, in general in marvel 3 most characters are tossers ie its expected that a character that is on point will die in about 80% of team makeups. the best teams seem to be the ones where the point character isnt designed to die… but those teams are ferraris cause they take alot of upkeep cause the team is basically afk IF the first character dies.
my new team is a combination, its designed for dante to win and keep winning (not die) but it still has concessions should he be taken out. i only really think really defensive teams can support the keeping the battery alive strategy since the battery cant be hit by ANY combo starters, or else xf cancel dead character and rape the rest of the team.
in mvc3 that wasnt so applicable against phoenix teams since the phoenix user got off “free” because of snapbacks being used so much.
but yeah, marvel “games” are more like rounds and will continue to be unless they get more defensive.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Noel tried using Arthur’s daggers assist with Wolverine and Wesker and loved it. I use Wolverine/Arthur, and that combination is awesome. Arthur’s XF3 capabilities are icing on the cake. Yes, lots of characters are good with XF3, but how many assist characters are? Akuma and Sentinel (for example) are very popular anchors because of this. It’s nice having a character in the back with a great assist as well as XF capabilities. The main problem is that there are lots of good projectile assists in this game attached to better characters overall. For me, though, dagger assist is invaluable. It also helps that I love the character.
Edit: And if Noel truly believes Arthur is upper-mid, it must be because he values assist and XF capabilties very highly and doesn’t seperate point and assist strength in his tier placements. For me, I don’t seperate the two, so I would place Arthur higher than She-hulk because I’d rather have that godly assist on my team than a sub-par point character.
My top 10 since it seems to be my top 5/10 day lol

Zero - Best in the game hands down. Confirms for days and those confirms lead to big damage and with right team set ups a lot of them lead to death to pretty much the entire cast. Buster is the most broken thing in this game that prevents buttons being pressed. To be the best he does need specific team set ups to maximize his damage and mix ups but when they are maximized he really cant/shouldnt be touched.
-
Firebrand - Best mixups in the game. His mixups when blocked lead to nastier mixups and when those are block lead to even nastier mixups etc. His hitboxes are really funny and dont make much sense at all. Air Bon Voyage is one of the best moves in the game because of how spammable it is. On hit leads into some damage then his mixup game and on block on the ground leads into his nasty mixup game as well. His zoning and keepaway game is basically like Trish on crack. Luminous body makes him even more dangerous and rarely do you ever not have to be in it due to how you can still gain meter back. His level 3 in XFC is basically like Ouroboros in that it is good for 1 dead character automatically and sometimes 2. Oh and how many characters in the cast can 300% a team off a cr. A… I still think it will be awhile before people realize how really good this character is.
-
Dante - This man still has it all and as SovietAfro said he is basically the swiss army knife. His nerfs arent nearly as bad as a lot of people make them out to be. He still has those broken tools like stinger-BC, reverb shock-fireworks, air play, hammer (still really good) etc. Sure he cant TOD people as easy and may have to use a mixup from time to time… but his mixups are still plenty fucking good it is just that Dante players arent really use to the idea of mixup or resets lol. Jam Session is the best neutral game assist out of the Gods (my opinion of course, Zero, Firebrand, Dante, Viper, Dorm, Wesker). Devil Trigger makes him even more amazing an very lethal as an anchor.
-
Viper - Probably get chewed out for this one lol but Viper is still amazing. I think the overall meter nerf hurt her a lot more than a lot of other Viper players but she is still the Queen of this game (unless Firebrand is a chick). EX Seismo is probably the 2nd best move in the game (I think Buster is better) and her damage output hasnt really changed all that much. I think Zero and Firebrand give her a hard time so she comes down to #4 for me. Her and Dante still make a cute couple and she has still has those great confirms that lead into big damage. There isnt that substantial of a gap separating her from Zero.
-
Wesker - Time to stop ignoring results. I feel putting him at #5 is still theory fighting to quite a degree but I still think the 4 characters above are a little bit better. This guy is tearing shit up right now obviously just derping around the screen. Still has that crazy mixup game that chains into itself. Gun shot is still one of the best projectiles and Samurai Edge is still one of the best assists in helping a lot of teams maximize damage. Dark Wesker is ridiculous and basically an entire team in itself. Everyone knows why Wesker is so good so I already failed by going into this much detail.
-
Dorm - Ahhhh finally a Marvel character. Very scary on point or as an anchor (especially if the other team used XFC early and he has meter to spare… then its GGs). Some of his moves have ridiculous hit boxes (air S, God hand) and his anti zoning game is the best in the game. I love watching the Trish v Dorm matchup where Trish gets picked out of the sky like a little bug with pillars. His rushdown is extremely underrated and he has one of the best level 1 supers in his big poppa Phoenix fireball. Flame carpet got nerfed but it is far from useless. WTF was capcom thinking with the cancellin of dark matter and summoning the powers in the air.
-
Hawkeye - I think his matchups against Zero and Firebrand raise his stock substantially. I think there are other characters who are stronger in the neutral game but having those 2 matchups under his belt are key. Clint came into UMvC3 to show the rest of the avengers a thing or to about this game.
-
Doom - Mr. utility… There isnt a spot where this guy is bad. He can be #1, 2, or 3. Has 2 really good assists (one of them being one of the best) and 1 thats pretty underrated in rocks. I dont feel he is absolutely amazing anywhere but he is easily above average-really good in pretty much everything. If you have 2 characters for a team and have no idea who the 3rd member will be just pick Doom, you cant go wrong.
-
Vergil - Yes Vergil. Now i know how much Vergil users want to think their character is the shittiest of shit (It is quite funny how badly Veril users underrate him) but it isnt the case. The big thing I keep hearing is about how unsafe he is… which makes me wonder how people are playing Vergil. He does great damage off of Sword normals and is one of the best DHCS to TOD into with his Swordorbouros. His mixups are very nice post combo and he gets even meaner in DT mode. No one is really playing this character right yet as it seems everyone is still stuck on day 1 Vergil… this will change eventually and Vergil users will finally realize how not so shitty their character is.
-
Strider - Vajra, Vajra, and more Vajrasil. This assist is so lethal and annoying you would think a character like this was meant to be assist only. Wrong… Strider has a pretty dirty mixup game to compensate for his low damage. This character is still pretty unexplored IMO due to the fact many are using him just for the assist. I dont really use him but he seems like a character that actually takes some thought and effort to be used efficiently. Ouroboros in level 3 is pretty much guranteed to kill one character which is always nice to have. Still waiting to see more from him but im sure we will see it as soon as people get over their fix of Vajra.
-
Spencer - I hate you zipline. This guy still decimates entire teams as an anchor and is now much more effective as a point or #2. Mixups are pretty solid and his assist where he pulls you down into standing state (always forget the name) is very underrated and should be used more. Has some of the best damage in the game solo wise and getting hit by a raw Bionic Arm can lead to death at any moment (even on block you still get a mixup after XFC activation).
Honorable mentions - Wolverine, Trish, and Magnus
I agree with KillerKai’s list. =S
