Oh, sorry then. Sometime sarcasm doesn’t come out right when your typing…
It sucks… But I can relate…
My point stated very simply, Wesker beats Vergil in a fight, but Vergil has alot of other reasons you’d want him on your team that Wesker can’t duplicate.
Hmm perhaps. To be honest I haven’t seen the fight enough to really make a comment. I would argue that if sword normals in general>Wesker, then Vergil may have a slight edge in this case. But again, I’d have to take to Live again…something I try not to do to often lol
This. He’s an asset as well as a liability if you decide to put him last. I had to drop him as anchor due to the inclusion of characters like Hawkeye, Firebrand, and Strider(dear god this matchup is so shitty it’s ridiculous).
I played a bunch of matches today with Vergil (2nd on my Viper squad), and his on point abilities have been exaggerated a bit. The character is no joke to be sure, but his offense doesn’t have anything on Wesker, and I think that Wesker with his gun and assists shouldn’t have much trouble getting through that slash range into the soft juicy center.
Dante gets full screen 50/50s with Rapid Slash, and access to some very free unblockables/hard to blockables with Sam edge. Vergil doesn’t have any good jumpins so he can’t get the unblockable setups to work as well.
Oh yeah, Million Dollars>Spiral Swords DHC is A LOT OF DAMAGE for only one meter, so pretty much any hit Dante gets in is a free kill.
Dante is also a much better battery and Vergil a much better meter user, so it only makes sense to have D/V in that order.
Second best order IMO would be Wesker/Vergil/Dante. Wesker with 2 powerful assists and the ability to kill most off the cast off an airthrow starting with one bar thanks to the vergil DHC makes this team REALLY good.
At this point, I’ll take your word for it. I won’t run to Vergil if I face a Wesker that’s for sure lol…it’s wierd how new buff prone shot can be REALLY irritating for some characters lol
The real power of the team is that, like old school MSS you can play it whatever order you want. In fact, maybe itd be good to switch the order depending on opponent/matchups.
It’s just faster right?
I really know nothing about Chris’s changes.
Most of my time now is going to the Coon. The more I play him, the more average I’m thinking he is. Not bad, just kinda B tier, as opposed to my original impressions.
Sounds like a Viper team. Look at these two examples.
Mine:
Viper/Vergil/Strider
Chrisis:
Viper/FireBrand/Strider
Mix up that order however you want. Your still fucked.
When learning vergil
You think he’s bad/overrated->You think he’s good - > you think he’s overrated-> you think he’s shit->you realize he’s good just have to play to his strengths and don’t drop the fucking plan and get greedy.
Disruptor is probably the assist that best compliments his mixup game, More I play Vergil/mags/Wesker I more I realize there is way more synergy here than Ithought. Disruptor is to fast even as an assist to play around allowing him fullscreen 50/50 at any moment or anytime you block a st. H (which just consumes a majority of the screen)
Guys unquestionably top 10 but any higher than that is too hard to say, though his new 950k combo is making some matchups I thought were a bit rough much more manageable. Namely Morrigan, really safe projectile zoning with vajra is his biggest weakness imo and without an assist matchups like that are really up to trying to bait your opponent to diverge from the plan and good reads more then anything consistent.
Vergil isn’t an anchor, his mixup game without assists just lets him get to easily turtled against even in lvl 3 x-factor.
Cheapest team right now for me is Wesker/Strider
Fuuuuuck that corner game. Seriously teching is just an extra mixup they have on you, friend has a mixup where if you tech either way you crossyourself up forcing you to press one way then immediately the other or you get hit. Took me like 30x eating it to understand what was going on.
His prone shot before sucked. Somewhat slow startup, shots had a TON of time between shots, and he had quite a bit of recovery coming out of it. Now, they sped up the startup (pretty fast, 10 from 15 I believe) and the shots have almost no time between them. The recovery out of it is almost instant, so if someone’s jumping at you, just jump up airthrow attempt or chickenblock. It can be annoying for some characters who use assists that can’t even touch him to cover their mixups.
Plus, if you go behind him (and damn this is such a good gimmick I shouldn’t reveal it xD Might win me a…well kill a character xD) he has full invincibility as he dusts himself off and stands up, so there’s typically a free throw or punish.
With Rocky, I think everybody got a little carried away with how effective he could be by himself. I think he’ll need a whole team to be a big threat, and that doesn’t mean bad at all (hell he’s pretty good) but far off from pre-release rabies.
I wish my team was like that…well…hmmm…I wonder if Doom on point could use his S.h otg to force a hard knockdown with Boulder Punches into another otgxxSuper DHC…dammit this is gonna make me turn on the fuggin game again xD
I have to say the “worst” one would be Strider/???/Viper but its still very manageable
Vergil doesn’t lose to anyone when he has meter, if Vergil is on point and you don’t have any meter or swords already active or at least a 3-2 character lead you’ve done something wrong.
Vergil is literally untouchable with doom missles and meter once you get that going they’ll have to block correctly 2-3 times per sword rep and eat massive chip or get hit and take more damage, and it keeps going until you run out of meter, it’s the new strider/doom.
Yes that would be the worst, but that only depends on what that middle character is. With Vergil and FB I can still boost my Strider BnB damage way beyond what the designers probably intended.
I try to design all my teams with a couple of tenants (in order of importance) in mind:
1)They are about the point character. You team will never be stronger then when you have all 3 guys alive. Your better optamizing that then what happens after.
2)That said, I want to make sure that the second character gets sufficient support from the 3rd. Good example are Strider can make Vergil strings safe and Spencer likes Drones just as much as Nova.
3)The order should function at an acceptable (not optimum) level if it’s F’d up.
4)It’s nice if you anchor can do the whole XF3 BS thing. Strider is great at this, Sent… is okay.
5) it’s preferable if you point character can do something for your others. (e.g. on a Zero/Viper team, Zero builds alot of meter for Viper to use when it’s her turn).
This is a woefully inefficient way to accomplish an even/advantage matchup. Besides, Swords aren’t really that amazing for mixup in my opinion, they tend to lock people in guard-stun.
Wesker doesn’t need to burn his teams meter, and that is an important factor.
I see we have similar views on how to make a team. That’s almost exactly how mine functions lol
Top players just use whoever they like. They know characters can go down or up from game to game but especially in a game like Marvel…refining your character regardless of the tier is more important. It’s really time consuming to go back and forth between teams in a game like MVC3 so if Wesker is a really solid character for people to play…they’re going to play him because he’s effective and simple. For the same reason people used Ryu for every game in SFIV. He was only really top tier in Vanilla (which the Japanese didn’t even really feel, only the US) but anyone who mained him continued to beast despite how far up or down he went in tiers lists.
Wesker could clearly go down by consensus to A tier and top players would still use the shit out of him because he’s just that effective. For them it doesn’t matter S or A…long as the dude wins matches and synergizes well with other characters they’ll take it from there.
Alot of people forget the second one. It’s sad if you team falls apart when the point dies. Especially since that can be very hard to avoid in this game.
It really is, and I think people often get too mushy with top tiers and like to shove them on teams when the team just does not function. Team like fuggin Wolverine/Wesker/Nova. Derpy, but what’s it doing? LIVE, it makes people smart xD
The role Vergil and Wesker play are different, Wesker shouldn’t use all your teams meter, Vergil should. Zero A / Vergil Y / Doom B is a perfect style of team for Vergil, if you’re point character gets a hit his DHC allows for an easy 100%, if not he has meter and an amazing assist that allows full lockdown and use of swords. Vergil on point is ok but it’s not good you really shouldn’t do it. Whatever his matchups without swords it barely matters because the point of the character is to use swords. With swords every matchup in the game is in your favor and the only real way you can lose is if you mess up badly or if you’re opponent blocks until you’re out of meter.

This is a really big problem if you are like me and use Frank in slot two. If Haggar or Dante (depending on what team I use) die before leveling up Frank I’m screwed.
you guys think hawkeye is going to stay in a tier or do you think he will drop off?
