I was silver battle axe. Dunno if I still am. :x
you can’t kill me… well you could but it would actually require you to reach my level of greatness before you even had the opportunity.
someone should slap you for even typing that out.
Yeah, sorry guys, I have been a lil inactive lately. I am back on the boards, read up, caught up.
So yeah, I guess the guilty gear people will be going to scott’s now. How wuz MvC2 on the projectors?
Those two rooms will be MvC2, 3s, and T5. The big projector rooms. I personally don’t own a console, so if we are going to have MvC2 and 3s, then someone has to be responsible for the systems.
I am still promoting Melty Blood. I need someone to play (T_T).
I was thinking, what other ways can we promote? I got another e-mail from a soul calibur fanboy. I seem to get these every so often, its a bit tiring letting them down nicely… so lately I haven’t been that nice.
I’ve been doing my part.
And how 'bout a cosplay bake sale? I know swerve is all about that stuff.
Hahahaha
I won’t be playing any more games at siebel. the lag is horrendous. =\
andrew: stop being weak
jerry: i just read ur email about sc3. honestly i think it wouldn’t be so bad to include the game in SOCOM just to promote the club. no one has played it yet, so there isn’t any reason why you, or anyone else for that matter, should think that it’ll be as bad as sc2 was. i’ll get my hands on a copy as soon as it hits so i would be happy to run the game in the other siebel room. the only problem would be that someone else would have to take over bringing a ps2 for tekken, etc. but if you have something against the game personally (which the tone of ur email seemed to imply) then i guess it doesn’t matter. i’m just saying that i, myself, wouldn’t mind playing sc3 lol. i’m not a fanboy by any means, but i’ve actually played sc2 a lot more than the rest of you guys in teh club, so i can say with some confidence that it’s not like the crappiest game ever or anything. it has bugs and step is overpowered, yadayada, but it’s still a fun game overall. sc3 has potential and most importantly, it’s NEW, which could help bring in more members to the club.
i think in the long run, by excluding new games like sc3 (which isn’t even out yet) we run the risk of being seen as pretty elitist, but i suppose we already have that reputation now :-S
You.All.Suck.
I retire.
I haven’t gotten the e-mail… I guess I’m not on the list. :x
Anyhow, I think it’s important for us to be open-minded. Yea, I guess it’s important for us to pursue our agenda but I don’t really see the benefit of our club becoming notorious as a group of jerks.
At this point, we just need as many people that are interested. And seriously, who in our club has been playing fighting games ‘competitively’ for more than 2 years other than Andrew, Scott and Dan? Most people here that play GG (myself included) were in the same shoes as what some of you guys refer to as ‘scrubs’ until several months ago. It’s totally unfair to expect people that only played fighting games to a casual basis for all their lives to suddenly accept the same paradigm that we operate by. These kind of things require gradual change. I still find myself learning new things everytime I play any fighting game.
I am personally not sure if we should include SC3 in our venue, but it would certainly help us to get more people interested in our organization. And that would also be a great opportunity to spark interests in these people about the games that we already play.
Our first step is publicity and enrollment of participants. Pursuit of our goals should come after the former is accomplished.
Thinking in pragmatic terms here.
Are there a lot of people out there looking to get together and play SC?
How bad is the lag for 3s on the projectors? Is it as bad as an online game? Or better? Or worse?
andrew: That is why we go to scott’s house. Or do u know any other place we can play?
dan: I talked with scott about this, and then we decided not to include SC at all. I dunno. I just don’t want to attract crowds of people who are just here to get together and just play any game the whole time. Essentially, I don’t want crowds of people coming in just to button bash. So, we should be more selective of the games we include. I mean there are a lot of other games we can choose from.
I guess this is still open discussion.
you all suck.
you are searching for something that is not there.
call me a hater but the truth is the truth.
hahaha… i still heart you all
it still seems to me that it’s just an anti-soul calibur sentiment thats keeping you guys from including the game in the club. everyone who plays any fighting game starts out a button masher pretty much, so that’s why you gotta beat them down and teach them. but you honestly can’t expect all the new members to want to play guilty gear. the more complex the game, the less people will be playing it (case in point: VF4).
when you say we have plenty of other games to chose from i don’t really see how that is. the only two games with players who actually care about playing are tekken and gg. there are no 3s players on campus who really care to play on a regular basis (yes, this includes u andrew :p). other fighting games i can think of: melty blood, kof, mvc2, cvs2, garou, st, cfj, vf4 - none of these games have enough players or people interested in them either. we have people who know how to play these games, but not people who are very very dedicated to them. even if we say that we “include” these games in our club, that doesn’t mean anything if there aren’t dedicated members to foster the community around the game.
the fact of the matter is that the only game people outside the club are interested in playing is sc3. that’s really our only other choice of a game outside of tekken and gg as far as i see it.
it’s not exactly the anti-soul calibur sentiment that is keeping me from including the game. I don’t want to include games just for interest purposes. I want more quality interest, as in interest to get good at the game, not just play.
If we had SC who is going to run it? Who knows enough about the game to actually run it then? I don’t think any of us. Other than through e-mails, has anyone actually come to our meeting to discuss this? If someone were really serious enough about the game in a competitive sense, I figure they would approach us.
I’m not going to add a game just because people want me to. There has to be some solid reason for why it fits our club.
I played SC2 before for about 3-4 months. I didn’t aim to get good though, just mess around. In the end, I got bored of it pretty fast. I haven’t played it competitively, but from what I hear about it, I don’t think it suits the club. If anyone has a solid reason for why we should applaude SC as a good game, other than its graphics, then sure, we can consider it.
I was just thinking. I sent e-mails encouraging people to join the board discussions, but no SC player has posted. So why should I consider adding SC again?
Oh yeah, for this week, we have to figure out what to do about the lag for MvC2 and 3s people. If Scott is up for it, maybe we can split up the times at his apartment. Alan, who comes for tekken, was interested in melty blood, so we are going to play in my dorm either after the meeting or maybe the 2nd hour of the meeting.
well there’s two different things u mentioned:
the first point: if you don’t let the game be in the club at all, there’s no way that you’ll find any quality interest. you’re killing the interest before it even has a chance to grow or develop. sc2 was a long time ago. a lot of the competitive sc2 players have graduated or moved on to other games. this is a new bunch of people we are talking about. obviously, there can’t be many competitive sc3 players because the game isn’t even out yet.
the second point: like i said before: sc3 isn’t even out yet! no one has played sc3 yet! i mean, try to reserve judgement before you get to try it out. it’s a new game, and could be good; i honestly don’t know. you gotta at least give it a chance though.
Yo what the hell? Video Game Alliance is really dirty. Dan, did you get that e-mail? He took our mailing list and stuck it on the end of his.
Man i feel stupid, I didn’t think about making the e-mails undisclosed or what not. sigh
About SC:
I dunno if it is so much the balance problems or what not in sc2 that didnt make it so good, but like the system itself I am not a big fan of. Who else here is for sc3 being added?
I personally don’t see a problem as long as there are people willing to play.
It’s not like we’re suggesting Mortal Kombat or Smash Brothers.
just add in Madden. watch it grow.
or cut my dick off.
i’d rather play doax.
actually… i liked doax
