If I were to come down for a weekend to play GG with you guys, when would be the best time?
Have accomodations available (most of my friends are at UIUC anyway) so it’s just a matter of driving down there. Sure, I could go to Nickel City, except I seem to have a curse preventing me from being there at the same time as any GG players… :annoy:

there is a tournament this week, no guilty gear though. SF2 and smash.
Oct. 27th, we are going to have a guilty gear tournament. Though these couple tourneys are university sponsored.
It’s a year or two old? but still in really good condition. The only thing I can see wrong with it is the plastic is peeling slightly by where the wrist sits below the buttons. (I don’t see many MAS sticks without it peeling there) There are some dirt smudges too but I’m sure those will come out once I wipe it down. You’re welcome to take a look at it sometime or test it out.
I don’t know if I mentioned it before but it has both DC and PS2 plugs. I’d let it go for cheaper if it was only PS2.
I play some smash as well, so I might as well stop by for it. What is the actual date/time it begins?

I know last time we had the tournaments, I covered for the winners since you need a UI ID in order to get the prize. Though, this time, I was talking to the people that I have running smash, and they may not let non-UIUC people take the prize money.
Some people were kinda mad cuz apparently a week before, they had another smash tourney, and some pro from michigan just came and took everyone’s cash. So, since its our tuition paying for all the prize money n all, its a bit controversial.
Normally, I’d refer people to the title of the thread (MAN UP, NANCY BOYS). In a tournament, if you can put up the entry fee, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to play.
However, in this case, people who don’t go to school here can’t put up any money… so… yeah.
Tourneys like SYM and EBGames and such… that’s the place for non-students, I guess.
i think people have every right to be unhappy about non-students taking money at illinites. i wouldn’t care if andrew and aaron came and took everybody’s money in gg. (not like they ever have any incentive to come to champaign, but that’s besides the point) but we should perhaps look into the issue if there have been claims concerning smash.
and jerry, i’m not going to be here this weekend. but make sure to arrange the smash tournament so that it will finish within the alotted time. make people play single game instead of two, or two games with single elimination. i know you’re not the one who is going to be running smash, but you have every right to take control since this is our event and you’re the president. if some douches try to argue with you, tell them to fuck off. or make james punch them in the throat.
the illinites staff were pretty pissed at us last spring when smash didn’t finish on time, and doing that again could jeopardize our outlook on future tournaments at the illini union. i actually don’t think they would bar us if another tournament didn’t finish on time or whatever, but i like to keep a clean slate my way.
^^ i never heard about this (was this also an illinites tourney?). in any case, i agree. the illinites tourneys are for current uiuc students only. i think i relayed the same info to jerry on AIM about a week ago.
sigmae, if you’re looking for a big tourney there will be a big smash tourney at uiuc on nov4. there will also be a gg tourney, and hopefully that can become big as well.
also concerning illinites… other than eddie, the other smash pros that ive brought to illinites have all been uiuc students, namely nickb, chen, and aob. and i think it was a treat for everyone to see eddie there.
yeah the tournament was through illinites. actually, I don’t really know the details. I only heard from Jason, and also Aaron Beal, the smash player you referred me too. I also don’t know who the smash player who came and took everyone’s money was.
Well Aaron Beal is officially going to run smash for us in the club, as well as help organize events. He was at our last smash illinites event, and I already talked to him about stuff.
Chris volunteered to help direct tournaments, so he is going to be more of the key person to communicate with Aaron on this. I will be overseeing things.
Basically, we will have different sets of rules under different circumstances, also depending on the number of setups we have. Though, can’t depend on that though.
It will still be team tournament. The previous illinites tournament apparently was a free for all anyways, so it evens things out.
I think it’s fair to say that non-UIUC students aren’t allowed to enter illinites tournaments. You’re supposed to have a wristband in order to enter and in order to get that, you need to show your current student ID at their table. Sure it’s nice to have them there but honestly, I just want to win money (when I’m capable of winning =P).
Anyhow, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go friday. I’m on the “mini-olympics” staff for my church and the event is going down saturday but we’re meeting starting friday night (same reason I gave last time haha) and nothing is stopping us aside from weather again.

I am actually not really interested in prize money, etc. It’s more for the actual competition of the event. Don’t have much in the area, so I take whatever I can get, that and I have been meaning to visit my friends who go to UIUC as well. If there is some form of divine intervention, and I do win, who here wants dibs on the cash?
