Bloody Roar 3 videos. Come on guys. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bloody Roar series is pretty fun, other than the simple combo system. I always used Bakuryu the Mole. Others I use are Shen Long, Leo and the Elephant guy. I haven’t seen 3 very much but it looks great, better than the more recent one’s.

^kind of old and blurry, Alpha station finals, same user has more matches from Bloody Roar 3 tournament.

my vote goes to Project Justice.
i’m probably playing favorites, but to kind of beat a dead horse:
back when Persona’s vids ( and later on, Didjital Insanity / the dude’s revival vids ) came out i took the liberty of transcribing them to make sense of some of the harder stuff in the game for the players. those series of vids had basically everything good.
some resources:

didjital insanity project justice revival vol. 2 + transcript ( interesting stuff, like comboing off the trash hit - i almost forgot about the ā€œphelps 8 medalsā€ thing at the end, lol )

big shouts to persona / DJI / thedude btw.

anywhoos, you could definitely get heads to play it, it’s Capcom, it’s SF-like, it’s fun and underplayed, and i really think it kind of sets the precedent for underrated fighting games and the fun competition to be had with them.

Primal Fury and Extreme are basically Bloody Roar 3 gameplay wise. The only differences are that BR3’s Uranus was a little more broken and in PF and Extreme some weird little infinites were removed. I think Bloody Roar Primal Fury was the best overall (better than extreme because of the Hyper beast change) … too bad it lacks blood. But ya, Bloody Roar 4 sucked.

I might have to look for a copy for the hell of it, if they have a console one. I think my favorite was 2, it seemed dark and creepy and it appealed to me. Of course this was when I was much younger, but I did school people twice my age through random mole attacks of doom lol.

Great to see this thread still going strong…keep it up Tarkan!!!

The tournaments you list are other people’s tournaments, all of which are becoming tighter on time constraints, and especially with the evo tournaments, there’s no garuntee that players will be available.

What i see on the first post, is a list of 18(!) games across different systems, and asking for 5 more, is this correct? or am i reading it wrong?

Can we clear up excatly what your trying to run, and also what tournaments are confirmed?

I’m still trying to work out some kinks in the system, since I haven’t had a tournament to test this out on, I’m just going by measuring the time of how long each game will finish, as well as the expected number of entrants. Like I said before, some of the games probably won’t be ran (nothing available to play on, because it’s arcade only,) I also don’t expect some of the games to get that many entrants (4-16 entrants, most likely for each game) and I’m going to try and run it as efficiently as possible, so we can get other games in.

There has been a dilemma with Final Round, where I’m not able to host my side-tournaments in the ball room, only in the hotel rooms (I didn’t get in contact with them sooner, which I should have.) Again, next time, I’ll talk with the tournament directors and confirm with them, whether I can host my tournaments in the main room.

Also, I should post that I’m not trying to take anything away from the main tournament games, those should always get full priority; this is just for people who are interested or eager to play in these games. Some of these games have been released for 10+ years, and I don’t expect them to be popular any time soon, so the number of entrants won’t be that high… This league is to support games that were never really taken seriously, even though they are just as good (or almost as good) as some of the games that are being played in major tournaments right now.

I’m still trying to work out this list, and we might have to cut down on some of the games (for obvious reasons,) but this is just a test run.

Dark Geese: Thanks for the props, I’ll try to help you out with some of the SNK games at NEC, do you have a list of tournaments you plan on going to? I just wanted to know what I can do to help.

I’m answering a PM to TarkanX here to clear some views on the 3D side of things.

DoA3.1- This is a very good game that about nobody plays and very few have tried. This is because the ability to play this game is very hindered by the fact you need JPN Xbox or a mod to your Xbox to play it.

The game is great though and my all time favorite DoA. It’s not balanced but there is much more strategy and tactic to this game than DoA2 or DoA4. More deep imo.

DoA+± This is another underappreciated game AGAIN because the game is hard to get a hold off. I have a DoA++ PCB in my room and it on a ZinC emulator but still. It’s a good game that is more about DoA basics and VF system. Not much known though being that barely anybody played it.

Fighters Megamix - Can’t say much here other than I remembering have a ton of fun playing it.

Fighting Vipers - Another one I can’t say much for unfortunately.

VF2,VF3- Just felt it would be cool to see Old School VF played again, though I’m not even part of this generation.

Powerstone/Tobal/etc.- Alot of 3D fighters being ignored here, 3D has had some great titles.

brief glimpse of the JP tourney scene for Fighting Vipers circa 96’ ( featuring top Wolf VF player Bunbunmaru - he was blonde at the time! Ikekuburo Sarah is in there too )

So this means you’d be running Blitz and IaMP and EFZ tourneys at majors?

The Granby: About DOA3.1, if I were to host a tournament, do you think that the DOA players would come to play it? While these are side-tournament games, they are supposed to be taken seriously, meaning there will be a national, continental, and world champion in these games. I’ve read in the past how DOA players would want their game in the spotlight (nothing less), and this league isn’t really going to grant that; what this league will do, though, is have solid rankings of players in various underrated games. Do you think they are up to that?

Yes.

By the way, I’m going to be done tallying the relevant votes by today afternoon, so while you can still suggest games, I will be much less lenient, and might even look past it (I’ve given people 3 weeks to post what they think should be added to the list, the topic was constantly on the first page, and the directions weren’t that hard to understand.)

After somewhat looking at the votes, here is what is likely to be added:

Bleach DS 2
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 Greatest Hits
Primal Rage
Project Justice
Sonic the Fighters
Street Fighter EX3

These are games that I am still looking at:

Bloody Roar: Primal Fury
Dead or Alive 3.1

Just a question, have you ever ran a side turney at a major before? Not trying to be a jerk, I’m just curious.

In my experience, just one game can take hours, especially if people are in *other *tournaments.

I only say this Tarkan, because you don’t want to spread yourself too thin over to many games. All it takes is one bad turney (maybe due to unexpected lack of resources, long delays, etc) for the masses to start hating on an idea.

I think starting with 3 games would be best.

Just my 2 cents.

Would it be possible to actually get a participant count/names for some of these games, or are you just planning to get shit announced at the event?

I hope SFEX1 makes that list :V

Here’s a fighter I loved back in the day but completely forgot about up until an hour ago. Mace: The Dark Age (for N64). Couldn’t find any tourney-level vids(lol) but these vids still display some interesting things.

After checking gamefaqs, there appear to be infinites that can be done by fast characters after a certain knockdown but can be banned easily enough. It was made by Midway which suprises me because I find it more enjoyable and deep than 3D MK and it came out in 97.

I’ve never been to a major tournament before, period; this is why I’m still thinking up ā€œtheory tourney,ā€ I’m constantly measuring how much turn-out a game would get, how much time it would take to get finished, possible delays, etc… I understand that the first impression lasts a long time, this is why I have to be at my best with this… people are going to spread rumors around, even if it isn’t true, it is my job to make the players happy. 3 games is a little low in my opinion, especially since some of these games won’t get a huge turn out. I’ll explain what I’m going to do at the bottom.

I’ve already posted in the NEC and Final Round thread, I can’t make a topic of my own for the tournament (it will get closed, just like Dark Geese’s did;) I have to deal with the information that I posted being cramped in the topic, where very little will glance at it. For Final Round, I’m not allowed to host my side tournaments, unless it is in the hotel room, which puts a huge blow on this… hopefully, this doesn’t happen with the other tournaments, but I fear that with the constant posts about time constraints, something is going to go down.

I’d rather have just one or two EX games, EX2+ and EX3 are the best games in the series.

Tournament Plan: I’m going to get in contact with the tournament organizer well before the tournament starts, to assure that I will be able to host my tournaments. I plan on having the games near the major tournament games are, so people have an easier time to run back and forward to the major games and side games (unless there is a designated BYOC area, which I have no choice but to use that area.) What should be available is at least one TV, some converters, the respective systems to play each game on (as well as a Computer for the doujin games, as well as some of the games that can be emulated, to make resources easier.) There will be a decent-sized marker board near the games being played where I will constantly write down what games are going to be played, when the tournament for a specific game will start (people can have warm-ups to familiarize themselves with the system,) and when the games are being played, what stage the tournament is at (winners finals, rgand finals, etc…)

I will try to get some sort of contact info with the player (but this is going to be hard, so I might have to just run to them, and tell them they are up to play, or yell at them. By the way, I guarantee there will be people who just outright quit, so that will make the tournaments run faster. I will make sure all the hardware is labeled, so that people don’t lose their things and blame isn’t passed on.

The tournaments are going to be ran as double elimination, 2/3 matches, 3/5 for grand finals (it will be 2/3 grand finals if a certain game takes too long to play.) I will try and be strict (although accommodating) with the tournaments; people are going to be playing at the major tournaments, so I will skip on to the next competitors. I will try to track how long it takes for their game to get done, and if they are standing around after they finished their game while it is their turn up, and they aren’t playing a major game at that moment (or already did,) then they will be sent to losers, or be DQed (that’s how it will be, if you were in winners, you will be sent to losers, and if you were in losers, you will be DQed.) I will accommodate bathroom breaks and food breaks, but they will be timed… bathroom breaks are 5-10 minutes, and for food breaks, it will be 10-15 minutes, but it is expected that you should have been eating or bought a snack before then. I will tell players when their next match should be up, so they know how much time they have before they play. After the end of the grand finals of each game, I will give about 5-10 minutes to start the next game; as I said before, this time could be used by familiarizing themselves with the game.

All of this is great, but let’s say I can’t host my tournaments in the main room, and only the hotel room, well, this puts a small stop in the road, but we can compromise. Just before the main room closes for the night, I will have a sign (marker board) that says that if you would like to play these games, you can go to this hotel room, then when people pass the exit (everyone is going to be passing it,) some might be interested in playing some of the games at the hotel rooms, and since there is virtually less constraints, there will be less hassle about time.

Edit: I’m going to post up a Q & A about the UFGL, so people have an easier time reading that, rather than a bunch of paragraph text.

My issue here is that I’d love to participate for some of these games but am not too keen on flying cross country for events which don’t have a confirmed headcount. A couple others I know (Monster players especially) are in the same situation: they would like to play but cannot justify it for a possible no-show.

TarkanX:

Let’s be honest, while there are many great underrated 3D games that deserve recognition. Weither or not people play them is completely different.

DoA3.1 and DoA++ would estimated get you about maybe 3-7 people at best and I’m not joking.

You could probably say the same for VF2/VF3/Fighters Megamix/etc.

To be honest, you would be better off running tournaments for ā€œoutdatedā€ fighting games than ā€œunderratedā€ fighting games.

Sorry, to spoil the fun.

This is true. Both bellreisa and Myself would love to travel for our prespective games but if there arent any numbers being pulled in for those games, there is no reason for us to travel especially when most of these tournaments are completely out of our reach. Newer games deserve the same chance that older games get. Playing outdated games get old. Why not try something new?
