UFGL: Underrated Fighting Game League

Yeah, Petshop is banned from tournaments and soft banned from casuals in Japan.
I don’t think that vanilla Iced is so good to the point of being God Tier.

Ya I assumed petshop was banned :?

So, the word is that Battle Fantasia has kind of bombed in the arcades, can someone give an explanation to this? CyberAkuma? Nohoho?

Tarkan you pmed me and asked for input, but I’m curious as to why? I’m not well known on this site at all and I don’t think my opinion would hold any sway in this thread. May I ask why you pmed me?

That said I’m glad psychic force 2012 is on that list. I would love to revive that game but sadly I feel as though it’s time has passed along with the dreamcast.

I think the BF machine was just too expensive for smaller arcades to buy. So only a select group of people played it because its not as widely available as the other games that you can just throw in an existing cabinet of an old game.
Plus while it was innovative, it wasnt really anything special. Compared to the effort put into it, its prolly a “bomb” but i dont think its AS bad as you picture it, cause i think it still gets some features in arcadia.
And look what you’re comparing it to…GG:AC, DR, VF5, Melty Blood, etc. Putting money in a BF machine over those ones is surprising. It never did, and prolly never will, reach those levels of popularity, but for what it was, it wasnt too too bad, i think. Its one of the types that if they make a sequel, it has potential to be really good. They just need to fix the mistakes they made with it.

The UFGL needs Waku Waku 7. I just played that game the other night, and I’m in love. It’s so fun~!

Ok, so I’m full of shit.

I would fucking love it if psychic force 2012 got the recognition it deserves. It’s an amazing game with nothing really degenerate about it. No stupid infinites or 100% life bar combos. No godly uunstoppable corner traps.

The main thing that drives people away from this game is the fact that it is so unorthodox. You float around in a giant cube. So you are constantly flying around. Spacing is a huge part of this game. Because your spacing will have a great effect on whther or not a move you use is safe, but also spamming moves from long distance means your opponent has more time to react. And many characters do well at different things. Some characters are close range others long range or middle range. Some are versatile while others are specialist.

Also the life guage system is interesting. You need psy energy for special moves and your psy bar is fused to your life bar. The more damage you take the more psy you are able to hold as your life bar decreases from damage taken. An interesting system to say the least.

The game is has plenty of ways to defend and attack and even though the game has very powerful higher tiered characters, nearly all of them have match-ups that are in the favor of lower tiered characters which helps to keep the game balanced.

I gotta say I’m jealous if Giza. He had the guts to do what I couldn’t. Started a scene for his favorite fighter all on his won. Props to you man.

Anyway, whoever wants to know about psychic force just check out the thread in my sig and read all that I post. All of my knowldge went into that thread and I’m still not done. Just took a breather for awhile while I wrote stuff for another site.

Also here are some vids of competitive play from Japan.

Check out all the vids that this guy uploaded.

that would seem like Dark Geese’s territory actually- SNK is putting out Sunsoft Collection which has Waku Waku 7 and Galaxy Fight, hopefully he hops on that :wgrin:

Yeah Waku Waku 7 is my territory…:lovin: Promoting it at NEC8…plus had a tournament for it at EVO East which I won.

These clips are mainly from Bloody Roar 3, even though I am trying to get Bloody Roar PF/Extreme on this list. Primal Fury and Extreme play a lot like 3 but with removed infinites, more characters, and it may have faster (not sure).
Bloody Roar 3 Clips can be found here:

I have a few Bloody Roar Primal Fury clips on my page (which was posted for the Sonic the Fighters videos) however the way me and my friends were playing has pretty casual and we had not been studying the game too hard so I think the videos posted by hksagyo are much more useful.

I’m still looking at the lists, I’m just trying to think about how to run the tournaments, and the order I should run the games…

Do you all think I should post this information on Smashboards, TekkenZaibatsu, SoulCalibur, VFDC, and DOA++/DOAC? Smash players probably won’t care, since they don’t really play other games (and if they did, they would probably post at some of the places I put this information up at;) VFDC is pretty much just Virtua Fighter, TekkenZaibatsu is just Tekken, but I know there are some that do play other games, and DOA++/DOAC seems to be just DOA (although if DOA3.1 gets on the list, I’ll definitely post there.)

There are a few smashers that will care. I would say post it there just to get a little attention.

Hahaha.

glares at rep

Allow me to reiterate. I’ve played both EX Street Fighters, and they were horrible games. Horrible. Broken, and absolutely not fun at all. This thread is about underrated games, right? Any bad rating SF EX gets is 100% deserved. Other than that, I totally agree with this thread.

you cant even explain why you think they suck (hint: they actually are pretty damn good.) Failure .:wasted:

I’ve played the SF EX series. They are not fun and do not deserve to have the name Street Fighter attached to them.

Maybe it’s because I’m fiercely anti-3d fighter. Maybe it’s because the games made no sense to me when I played them. Maybe it’s because I didn’t slow down to learn them. But SF EX, to me, sucked. And if you can’t respect my opinion, don’t reply to it. Thanks.

:lame:

i respect opinions even if i dont agree with them - when they are informed opinions. obviously yours are hella not (you are just saying the game sucks, and giiving no reason why - other than the fact that the games dont make sense to you, you hate “3d fighters” when the game plays nothing like a 3d fighting game, (when in actuality they play like the 2d sf games…) and that they are not “fun”. lol In other words, you don’t really have a informed opinion. Which is cool, but just kep it real and sy something like “i havent played the game that much, i didnt like it at first imprssion.” anyway, plenty of people think underwise, hence the game being “underrated” so whatever.

so we can only reply if we agree with your opinion? While not everyone can agree which one they like best (as system wise their all fairly different and all appeal to different peoples tastes), they all solid games.

I’m saying “Don’t flame.”

Yeah, you’re correct, and I apologize; I haven’t played the game more than once at an arcade and on first impression, I really did hate it. If a good game actually lies beyond, I’ll give it another shot. I guess 10 minutes at an arcade really isn’t enough for a solid opinion.

Ow, my rep, ow.

There were more than 2 SFEXs…the 3rd one was actually the best and a pretty good game.

The console ports of EX1 and EX2 were actually better than the arcade versions–added characters and modes and what-not…I don’t blame you for thinking the arcade EX was lackluster but play EX3 before you bash the series as a whole.

It’s also been said many times, and I’ll say again…the EX games do NOT have 3-D gameplay.

I used to like “Groove on fight” for the Sega Saturn… I am not sure how the game might look nowdays though…

anyone played / is playing that now?
