- thing he influenced me on…how NOT to do anatomy.
$100 dollars for a sketch doesn’t surprise me. Inflation, baby. Plus, anime fans have money to throw around.
That sounds exactly like a description of Joe Mad, too.
I realize I am derailing the thread here, and for that I apologize to the person who started it. I just have a low opinion of Joe Mad’s work and got baited by maxx’s masterful setup.
This conversation needs it’s own thread, I think.
You could always take a poll, but I think we both know exactly how it would turn out every time.
its true…but this isnt normal for an anime con. they usually arent charging that absurd of prices for sketches at anime cons.
Do we know what he was sketching?
I mean, “sketch” is pretty a subjective term that can range from pinup to head scribbles.
100 bucks for a pencil head/shoulders is crazy.
Like I said before on this thread, full body sketches were probably going for 100, not portraits. Last time they came to NY I got 2 portrait sketches for 20 a piece and a full body sketch for 80.
I doubt they were charging 100 for portraits AKA head and shoulders.
But again, wasn’t there, so…
I was and it was the full-body sketching were fixed at $100, headshot portraits were $10
and Omar can draw FaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaSt let me tell you!:looney:
I was thinking that that was the case, but then again I’ve seen some really odd prices from some people you wouldn’t expect.
100 for a full figure, especially how Udon does it, isn’t bad.
Personally I’d take the 10$ headshot.
sup maxx.
It was indeed $100 for a full figure sketch from Omar. Granted his shit is dope, but I have bills to pay.
Someone should’ve bugged UDON about MvC3.
Glad some of you made it to Otakon!
To clerify the sketch thingy -
Our artists charge 100 dollars for a 11 X 17 commission. Is it not really as sketch, but rather a finished inked drawing of characters of your choice. This is a full body shot, most of the time on an official UDON artboard (the same paper that UDON artists use to draw comic pages on). The guys will be spending at least 20 to 30 minutes on this for you, depending on the complexity of the character.
Quick sketches are also available, and usually bundled with sketch books or con exclusive comics like the SF Remix #0 special convention edition. Those are normally charged at a package price of 20 dollars, which 10 dollars actually goes to the artist who do the sketch. These are shoulder up head sketches, and is not as finished as the full commission pieces.
Regarding the sketch book price going up from 10 to 20 dollars, I think there is a misunderstanding. The first day of Otakon, Omar and Jo has not arrived yet. So we decide to sell the SF Remix and the UDOn Sketchbook at 10 dollars (meaning just the book, no artist sketch attached) just in case the fans who bought the book is only going to attend the con Friday only, and would never be able to come back for the sketch. When Saturday and Sunday kick in with Omar and Jo there, we then sell the books at 20.00 which includes a sketch ticket (for those who are new to this, we will give you a ticket as your “token” to get the head sketch from the artist, and also this serve as the receipt from the artist to us to redeem his/her 10.00 fee).
Hope this clears up the question.
Glad to hear you guys have a release date for the Darkstalkers artbook. I got the Japanese original (for free!) at Anime North, but it will be nice to have a version I can read. AND I see from checking Amazon and Chapters / Indigo that the Megaman Zero artbook finally came out earlier this summer, double awesome!
I saw the booth Friday, but I didn’t buy anything until Saturday. I picked up the SF books 1-4 and the big fanart tribute book. Jo Chen was nice and signed them all for me, though she was a bit delayed because the backdrop thingy at the booth fell over. Luckily no one appeared to have been hurt.
It was good times.
still pretty pricey for an anime con. but thats my personal belief.
Oh man, I just realized that I had pre-ordered the SF tribute book, and I picked one up at Otakon. I completely forgot about it until I went to buy something off of eBay and saw the paypal purchase order for Udon.
Well, I guess I’ll have to figure out something to do with it, since I’m not giving up my signed copy ever.
pics or her and her sis…
