umm what is the latest comic of SF2 right now because the last one i have from SF2 is #6
#6. That’s the last one of that one. They’re relaunching it again (if I interpret right), under “Street Fighter II: Turbo” so i guess they’re starting with #0 again? or just continuing the numbering?
Anyway! More questions! lol, Sano did you ask any info on Darkstalkers or Rival Schools? I’m hoping they just restart Rival Schools and let Ken write the stories for it (he can probably intertwine it into the SF Story plot too)…
For Darkstalkers Zub said that Chamba, the SF2 Turbo artist was originally approached to do Darkstalkers. But with Alvin Lee taking a break (Alvin Lee will still provide covers for them) and so they can take full advantage of SF’s 20th Anniversary Chamba is working on SF2 Turbo for now. Udon wants to continue Darkstalkers and at the booth Omar Dogan said “When is Darkstalkers coming back?” is the number one question people ask them at every con! They still wish to continue Darkstalkers but it is a question of finding the right vehicle, timeline and artist and it’s not something they wish to rush.
With Rival Schools Zub said they still have the license and their plan was to release RS as black and white books for book stores for the manga crowds who read Naruto at Barnes & Noble and so on, but they didn’t do so well there. They are big fans of Rival Schools and they wish to continue it, but it is a similar situation to Darkstalkers.
A person at the con also asked about continuing Dreamwave’s Mega Man comic or acquiring the license. Zub said they would like to and love Mega Man but there are no plans at this time.
Someone else asked about them creating a Resident Evil comic. Zub said it wasn’t very likely even though Udon has great fans of the franchise. The reason is that Resident Evil is Capcom’s baby and their number 1 money making franchise. With SF, DS and RS they have lots of leeway but everything involving Resident Evil would get viewed by Capcom under a fine microscope (which is understandable with RE being their bread winner) and it’s not a way that Studio Udon would like to work. On top of that, while there are people at Udon who love RE they are way more passionate about SF.
Another question was regarding a Capcom vs. SNK comic. Studio Udon loves SNK games and they approached SNK with the idea and the short version is that SNK shot them down for the time being, Zub didn’t go into a lot of details as to why. Yeah, myself and I’m a big fan of SNK also so I’m not trying to hate on them or say anything bad about them, I’m sure they had their reasons…
Someone else asked about a Marvel vs. Capcom comic. As some of you know already Udon approached Marvel about this idea (X-Men vs. Street Fighter mainly) and was shot down. Marvel at the time believed that Street Fighter was a dead franchise. The person in the crowd asked if it was possible with SF4 coming out and the 20th Anniversary, Zub said it could happen if SF became big again in '08 and '09, and the best people could do is to bug Marvel about the idea.
Oh as an aside, a friend of mine asked if when the HD SF2 game came out will some of the Studio Udon members share their Gamertags so we can play against them. Zub said, “Maybe some of the braver players at Udon.”
i’m gonna miss alvin lee’s work as well.
what’s he currently doing anyway?
He’s working on the HD SF2 Turbo game with the rest of the Udon staff right now, ah that was an easy one.
Cheers for the Studio Udon info Sano.
Did the let on to any more info regarding SSF2THD?
Like which artists are handling what characters/endings etc…
Omar Dogan at the booth told me he was mostly doing backgrounds for the HD SF2 game (course I don’t know if he is the only one working on backgrounds) but is much more involved with Konami’s DS Track & Field game. At the panel, Zub said that there will more chibi Konami characters in the Track & Field game aside from Pyramid Head that can be seen in the promo art, but they haven’t revealed who just yet.
I don’t much about who is working on what exactly for the SF game other than that and whatever’s on the Capcom Blog for the game from Rey and others…
At the panel I asked Zub specifically how the SSF2THD endings would tie into their SF2 Turbo comic (something Udoneko spoke about earlier in SRK, there’s a bit of this in SFD’s interview too). I got a pretty vague answer from him, he said that the endings in the game were upgrades of the existing endings and they wouldn’t force people who only play the game to buy the comic and vice versa, but there are details he couldn’t reveal at the time. He did say that the upgraded endings would remove a lot of the cheesiness of the older endings. I then asked him directly if they would get rid of Master Bison and Cammy being lovers which got a laugh from the crowd. Zub said he hasn’t seen Cammy’s new ending yet so he couldn’t confirm or deny. Someone in the crowd asked him about Zangief dancing with Gorbachev and Zub confirmed that he did see 'Gief’s new ending and it is gone and that will no longer happen in his new ending. This got a mix of yays and boos from the crowd with some people laughing at the booing.
cool!
did anybody asked when the game will be released ?
and do we have an approximate lauch date for any of the street fighter comics ?
No one asked about when the either the Track & Field or the SSF2THD game will be released, I dunno exactly when, only that both should be out sometime in 2008. We only know of a ball park concerning the SF comics, which is Summer 2008 right now.
So Darkstalkers is back on track then! (At least a tentative after SF2 finishes!) Yay! that makes me very very happy! Hopefully they can just redo Rival Schools and do it with what works, what they’ve already been doing. Start over, they got to, RS wasn’t even properly released!
Thank you for answering all these questions Sano! That or you’re a good hype-machiner, lol.
No way man, I noticed too. Joe Ng’s stuff really does look like Alvin Lee’s. Hmm…
But just looking at some of Chamba’s work, and the SFII Turbo poster, his stuff looks a whole lot like CRMK/Bengus’ stuff! I LOVE IT!!! :lovin:
I never really liked these SF comics to be honest something about the art style. I really like theyre posters and cover work art though. Most of all I like the respect they give to Capcom and the SF series.
really?? i had no idea
Update - Sven of Capcom USA said the HD SF2T game should come out in Spring of 2008, that’s the best date I can give you right now.
:wow::wow::wow: Where’d you preorder that from again?
just more to add my collection
If you mean the American versions by Udon, I suggest hanging out for now until we have more concrete dates. Myself, I have no idea about dates when book stores like Barnes & Noble recieve things since it is entirely different from dates comic book shops recieve things. Keep an eye on the Sticky ‘When is the Next SF issue coming out’ thread and the other thread that updates the comic list every week in the future for updates.
For the Japanese versions for the artbooks of Darkstalkers/Vampire, Okami, and Rockman Zero, all of them are available through Play-Asia except for the Mega Man Zero book which is out of stock and out of print. But you are probably better off waiting for Udon’s versions since they are all in high demand in Japan and you may go through a few headaches. Plus Udon’s books will be in English lol. :lovin:
Udon doesn’t have any plans to translate the Devil May Cry book and the only version I see on Play-Asia now is for the DVD version which you will need a region free player to view… Chances are the book is also out of print. Ebay may be your best route for that one. I hope Udon does translate it (and tosses in a bunch of stuff from 2, 3 and 4 since the book mainly focuses on 1 lol! ) Anyway, the DVD version -
