UD-CPS2: Fully Consolized Capcom Play System 2

Osirun (Nathan Shields, TO of PowerUP in Cincinnati, Ohio) had me as a guest on his podcast a couple weeks ago. For those who care to hear me ramble on about Street Fighter and this project: http://www.powerupfighters.com/2012/06/powerup-podcast-episode-77-undamned-and-his-ud-cps2/

I don’t even know that this is, but it’s cool as shit.

Nice meeting you at Evo, this is Andy I was using Ryu/Vega for quite awhile Saturday evening. Really like how it’s shaping up so far and looking forward to the finished product.

Oh, nice! Yeah, it was so great meeting all you guys over the weekend!

Hey ud, any sort of price scheme? unless I missed it, I am looking to see what you will be selling this for.

I’ve been telling people $400ish.

Thank you for bringing your setup! I can’t wait for the final release!

… final release ??

Have you thought about making a kickstarter for this, UD? Maybe it’d help with building up a stock of games - I know I’d donate money for a portable ST ass-kickery machine.

Hey UD,

It was cool chatting with you briefly @ Evo. Regarding the converter you are creating…will it be possible to attach it to a fully functional arcade cab?

Hmm, never thought about it. As far as the system is concerned, money isn’t really holding anything up at this point. I’ve had many offers from people to pre-order and pay upfront, but historically things don’t happen as quickly as I plan and I’d rather not have that added burden of owning anybody anything. I’d consider something of the sort when I’m in full production and buying parts in bulk makes more sense.

As far as using that money to build up an inventory of games… same as above, when I’m ready to go full bore, it’s a possibility, but not right now. Thanks for the willingness to donate, though

Thanks for stopping by! Yup. I haven’t done the layout on the DIY converters, but my goal is to make it as simple as possible for people to wire up. My circuit is already common ground and compatible with 5V logic, so electrically it’s ready to roll, just need to decide on the best/easiest way for people to wire into their cab.

Don’t put too much thought in it. If you really want, make an in and out bank of quick disconnect tabs, with an in and out so they can go inline on the cab. Have both and ā€œcandyā€ and ā€œamericanā€ cab version. This would be the simplest version. They could just crimp of buy premade jumper wires to their CP buttons.

As for me, just give me some pads or through holes to solder to, and I will be just dandy.

-Jeremy

Haha, for me, that’s too much thought. Quick disconnect tabs would necessitate a ton of mechanical strength (imagine some dude with big thumbs trying to jam on an uncooperative connector) which simply won’t be there if it’s just tabs soldered to pads on a PCB. I’m thinking more along the lines of a screw terminal design. Then people also have the option to go without the screw terminals installed and just solder wires directly into the holes.

You should just be able to wire the converter in with the JAMMA and CPS-2 Harnesses, and then put some NAUSB on the cab exterior. I’d expect that wiring it into a cab will be relatively easy since it’s made to work with CPS-2 hardware.

For a ā€˜plug-in’ version, I’d wire into JAMMA and CPS-2 Harness extenders…

Which reminds me… it’s probably easier just to get multiple converters, but there are some CPS-2 games that run more than 2 players:
Alien vs Predator, Armored Warriors, DnD Tower of Doom, DnD Shadows over Mysteria, and Battle Circuit.

Yup, yup.

I’ll do some simple wiring tutorials for folks that should be fairly idiot-proof. Yeah, DIYs will be single channel, so people can buy as many as they need.

I’ll definitely grab a couple for my supergun. Also might try to wire a couple up to my cab for 4p games. Interesting idea.

so when things get going, do we send you our boards to convert? great job with everything ud.

The FAQ in the OP still holds true. Basically if I run out, I’ll accept A boards from people. Otherwise I’m pretty well stocked and intend to stay that way  Glad you like it!

You could be a Madcatz hand model!
