UCD MUGA thread

Here’s another one

http://www.millionsubs.com/Reg.php

I can bring it to the Muga on wednesday, when can you make it?

Random thought -

for our next tourney, maybe do it single match 3/5? Would reduce the run time of the tourney and cut down on token headaches.

Screw Jack in the Box. I’m going to IHOP for National Pancake Day.

David, I need to make sure that I’m locked in stone for the fall. My apartment is giving me two days to look at the studios they have open, so… yeah.

As for future tournaments, we need to have our hand in it too. I mean, I can go try (maybe Walter can too) to talk to the frat and try to restructure their axed fundraiser and see if we can make it better. I’ve seen way too many occasions fall apart because of a lack of communication and a lack of information. I’ve got the following ideas in mind:

  1. If it’s a small tournament, we reserve the MUGA machines. Duh. (And yeah, Jack, if Dan or Marty could get to do that for us on tournies, it would save us a lot of time.) If it’s large enough, though, we’re likely going to have to reserve Griffin Lounge and get some people to bring their consoles (hopefully with everyone unlocked, of course). I think a 2:1 or 1.5:1 360:PS3 ratio would work for such a situation.

  2. In the case of having to go with the latter: sticks, controllers… whatever peripheral you play on, you bring with you. If you’re willing to share, fine; we don’t want to have a situation where one person can’t play on anything because everyone’s too finicky over their “babies.”

  3. Time and information are key. For any kind of tourney, three weeks notice should be the bare minimum. Yes, even if it means whoring ourselves out to start tourney threads here in Pac North Matchmaking, we want to see these things happen.

If it’s backing a school organization, then we have to tell them to find efficient ways to communicate while we do what we can. Yes, a Facebook group and small flyers are nice and all, but not everyone goes Facebook stalking for fighting games, and not everyone receives flyers. Print ads in the school paper would work wonders; one decent-sized ad every 3-4 days leading up to the tourney might work out just fine.

  1. Have the prizes/pot money percentages set in stone. I don’t care if the percentages vary by size of the field; that gets included in the information. Saying one thing, then pulling the rug after seeing a bad turnout, though… that’ll push some buttons.

I’m just poring through the mistakes they made and turning them into ideas; I’m not too efficient at throughly implementing them. I guess that’s my inner recon freak talking.

As much as I enjoy tourneys, I don’t think we really get enough sessions as it is. I mean, getting in with a lot of people is fine and all, but we all have our weaknesses, and this group has a relatively diverse set of characters. Frankly, I’d think it’d benefit of us all just to contact one person and practice with that person for a day. I hear Auri is getting better with his Blanka, and Blanka needs to own Zangief in his matchup, so I need to get together with you one day. Allan and I need to practice our matchup, and for obvious reasons, I need to play Tanaka and Jack a lot, since their Ryus are the epitome of spacing.

Edit: On that note, I need to play Matt more.

And I just need to work on… well, playing in general. All while keeping track of my grades, of course (stupid O-Chem midterm’s going to rape everyone again tomorrow… maybe except for that one guy).

I just had my first arcade IV experience today. Fought a Ryu that, for some odd reason, did not Hadoken at all. I was practicing Focus Cancelling and stuff like that waiting to suck up some Hadokens… no, he just freaking turtles on the other side of the screen. 'Twas a bad, bad evening.

Definitely loses out to getting Perfected opening around on my upstart Maki by Sagat… now that was worth laughing about.

Oh, by the way, Sean… the guy who’s picking up Zangief at the arcade was looking for you for some kind of tutelage stuff. I just told him you might be around the Cave before 1:30 (since we have Psych… make sure you did the lab!). You can deal with him as you see fit. If you’re not raging, of course.

If that’s the case, though…

I welcome anything whether it be sessions, muga, frat tournies, home tournies, or muga hosted tournies.

I’ve been playing a bit on PSN. Most people are still inexperienced with the game making it pretty lame sometimes to play there for now.

and On that note, I am now going to attempt to list everyone’s mains:

Dennis - Sagat, Gouken
Sean - Zangief, Balrog
Alan (Tekken) - M. Bison, Sagat
Andrew - Sagat, Balrog
Tanaka - Ryu
Jack - Ryu, Akuma
Eric - Sagat, M. Bison, Ryu
David - Blanka, Seth
Cameron - Ken
Aure - Blanka, Fei Long
Nathan - Blanka, Abel
Raul - Sagat
Popo - Guile
Wyen - M. Bison?
Walter - Vega
Paolo - C. Viper
Brunel - Balrog, Ryu
Roy - C.Viper, Chun Li
Dan - Chun Li, Ken
Tyram - Sagat?
Alex - Rufus, El Fuerte
Gaurav - Ken
Kevin - Zangief, Dan
Matt - E. Honda, Balrog
Marty - M. Bison, Guile
Sean (Korea) - Dhalsim, Ryu
Sam - Ken, Ryu
Jimmy - M. Bison
Chris - Vega
Justin - Akuma

I missed a few.

A large scale tournament up here might get some outside interest depending on what the prizes are, and how well it’s advertised. Though I really feel like any organization that wants to set up an SF4 tournament for a fundraiser or whatever needs to talk to the MUGA crew so they actually have a clue about how to run it. After this weekend’s fiasco, it’s clear that nothing will get off the ground without our support, that’s for sure.

Edit: Way to spell my name wrong Dennis. It’s “Gaurav.”

Just tell me whenever you have about an hour of free time, shouldn’t take too long to fill out the forms and have you added to the lease.

Hmm… any time on Thursday after should be nice. Guess I’ll have to break the news to the management here that I’ve found a less expensive place for the upcoming academic year.

Dennis, I slightly raged about this a page or two ago, but my name is spelled with another “o,” not a “u.” I plan on mixing in Cammy and maybe Chun, but most of my focus will be Viper. Of course, I’m still a shoddy Viper compared to the likes of Roy and even Jack.

Speaking of Jack, don’t forget to put up “Akuma guy” on that list for the lulz.

Feels good man. :sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad:
Someone thinks I’m good enough to teach them.

Played with that Japanese Blanka player today. I beat him more time than he did me and with different characters, so I think I know how to face against Blanka and give some (nothing that you don’t know, David) tips on how to use him better. From the looks of it, it’s just mixing it up after Blanka cross up to electricity, and catching them off guard with his balls recovery with sweeps and such.

We’re all gonna get a pre-tourney free sub, right?

Bye bye SFIV training time, hello Star Ocean 4 :shake:

All right people. Here is some official information for our upcoming tournament:

Akuma guy’s name is Justin. He’s a pretty cool guy, eh raging demons everyone and doesn’t afraid of anything.

Hey, Paolo. If you read this, what are you suppose do for lab 4? I don’t see the page number for the problems. They just want me to write down formulas???

Edit: Oh, wow. Sean, you are a genius. There is a second page to this lab. Oh… wow.

I think I got hit in the head with too many shoryukens. I blame you, Jack.

Tiers are important. Really, they are.
