I dunno…I was only there during the GGXX #r tournament and I didn’t really get to watch. There were quite a few people there though…pretty much every machine was being played and had a line around it. There were even girls there watching, with an actual interest in it.
My CvS2 matches were pretty good. It was interesting/frustrating to lose to someone other than CBS. Geese is pretty damned buff, but it takes a lot of patience and skill to use him properly. It’s matches like these that make me actually want to play CvS2 again…instead of running into Blanka nonsense, it’s actually something you have to outsmart/outskill to win. It’s actually fun.
One of the rings will appear as the opponent is getting up…I forget which button it is because I don’t use her. From there, you have them in a sort of “locked” state where you can inflict all sorts of abuse.
Basically, you start with knockdown, run up, do ring. Then, as the ring is going to appear and your opponent is getting up, you can…
Tiger knee P - this does that Air-Moon-Hair thing, which will hit from above.
Tiger knee K - Millia will shoot straight down. You can attack low.
Take a step or two back, tiger knee k. Millia will land on the other side of the opponent.
Run forward, kick overhead.
Run forward, low kicks.
Roll. Which puts Millia on the other side, you can attack low.
Roll, tiger knee K or P, or kick overhead
These are all really stupidly fast and really difficult to block. Part of it is making a lucky guess. Good Millia players mix it up and you just don’t know where it’s coming from. All she needs is a red helmet and purple cape.
I remember way back in the day there used to be Initial D tournaments at Sunnyvale. Maybe there still are, I dunno. Anyway, alls I remember is that one type of car was banned, and the rest were all good. But that’s all, dunno if they used certain stages or whatnot.
Of course, maybe that car was toned down for the 2nd version.
Getting close with Slayer…well, how did you get close with Faust? In any event, basically you can just walk forward. Do that stupid dandy step a few times, or dash forward too. F-HS works wonders too for closing in if you want to.
IMO Slayer is primarily a counter-attacking character, which means that if they play defensively you have to be patient and play smart. However, if you don’t want to do that his jumping HS has a lot of priority and his jumping dust will net you a 50 percent combos if it counter-hits, and according to Kugler it will trade with Sol’s uppercut. So just go ahead and airdash on in if you feel like it.
Oh, and if you want to be REALLY brain-dead you can just go ahead and jump S. It’s priority isn’t super-great but it’s a continuous attack and if they block it on the ground you can jump cancel it into another jumping S and cross them up. If they get hit by it in the air you can jump cancel it into another jumping slash into that arial cape move for the gayest looking combo ever.
Millia’s ring must be done right away after you do whatever you did to set them up for the ring. You can also blue-cancel it for certain setups or if you just did it late. Basically, if they throw you, you did it too late.
You forgot to mention that Baiken also fights with one eye. I’m pretty sure that her eye and arm are both on the same side. So try to make sure you stay on her good side.
What Scamp said is dead-on, just wanted to add that you’ll want to be able to cancel Slayer’s back-dash into a special attack, so that you retain the invincibilty frames for a while. The possibilites of using this technique alone makes Slayer top tier…you can mappa punch through any poke, cancel into an invincible bite on wakeup, and have an invincible air throw (his best anti-air).
With the BDC, it’s effortless to get close to your opponent…but actually being able to perform one consistently takes some time. You wouldn’t have trouble learning it though, as you can do the roll glitch and Cable AHVB I imagine.
If you’ve got a fast connection I can AIM you a combo video featuring some SICK things Slayer can do, plus the back dash cancel being used in various ways.
Dammit, I don’t understand any of this GGXX talk, and I still can’t believe we lost Alpha 3 to stupid SvC Chaos…
P.S.- What is a Dust Loop combo with Sol Badguy? He is the only person I play with in that game, but I can only use my ghetto tactics to beat the people who don’t know how to play.
NCR + gay brackets = last place
stupid SVGL makes me feel like a davis / berkeley tourney
venkat: u didnt enter cvs, POH
scott: beating kids in arcade is awesome, except this kid actually punched me afterwards…then proceed to challenge me a second time. Running towards them and not get hit is pretty dope though.
Depends. You can start the launcher in multiple ways, but if you want to do the dust loop, it’s like this. Launcher -> hyperjump D D -> hyperjump D D -> jump K D -> jump cancel S D -> Volcanic Viper. If you’re brave you can add another hyperjump D D before the ender. But there’s always a chance that everyone will flip out of it (especially light characters), so you miss your chance of doing your ground game pressure on them.
NCR2 was kinda bleh. Cramped arcade plus shitty sticks sucks ass. Some people thought the sticks were all right… but personally think they blew. I could still do stuff on those sticks, but they were entirely too loose for my tastes and the diagnols sucked. One moment I’d be blocking low when blocking a pressure string and the next I wouldn’t be? What the fuck. :bluu:
I’m not basing that on how well or how poorly I did though. It all came down to which player was better, IMO. The brackets were bleh too though… First match against Kugler? Then my second was against Tanaka? What’s with all the Davis regulars facing each other at the tournament? The only “new” person I faced was Sirlin.
His Chipp is godly… He raped me first game in loser’s but then somehow I came out of no where and beat him second game. Then he switches to Potemkin and I get poke comboed to death. Oh well. All the games were good.
Overall, I learned I suck in XX and the So-Cal guys are just too damn good.
Ryan: LoL! That’s too fucking funny. The kid hit you cus you beat his ass in KOF2k3? Haha! Nice.
Highlight of going down to SVGL is playing #R with Reno Crew all night. The best part of that was the Ketchup Cup, round robin tournament. Haha.
Overall the trip was all right. It took us four hours to get there from Tanaka’s house cus we got lost several times. MapQuest sucks ass. But then when we were going home it only took us about 1.5 hours to get home since we took a different route back to Sacto. Arg… I hate MapQuest.
I’ve been trying to play this game with someone but I haven’t been trying that hard. Only person I know that has the game for sure right now is Venkat.
Let’s play! I wanna bust out my Ino-styles. “Go! Defeat him with your 16-hit combo!”
Good news, guys. My copy of #Reload came today… so the next time we have a console party or want to practice Guilty Gear, we can play #Reload on my console.
me and cliff have spring break this week, is anyone down to play sometime this week? ant, venkat, jeff ??? holllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllla
