I definitely want to play poker this Thursday. Friday night is too busy for me, but other fridays are a go. 10 dollar buy-ins are fine. I’ll go up to 20. No limit is my preferred way with no re-buys. But I’m fine with whatever system the majority likes.
So it seems this Tuan guy is good or something? Bring him on, I like a challenge.
As for 3s, there doesn’t seem to be any opinion that seems stronger than another. As far as I know, we can even decide who’s going to be on the team the day of the tournament. Isn’t that neat? As is, I’d like to see Leo play some more.
Also, with my advanced scouting techniques, I say it might be important to match up against other teams. I know Berkeley and SJSU. If John Choi goes then both teams have Kens that none of us will beat. Both teams will probably have a Ryu and a Chun-Li too. I don’t know who the 4th guy on SJSU is but Berkeley will have a Yun or Ibuki. Probably Yun.

u should tell us what choi is weak against like kryptonite or they got food poisening from eating at hot pot, or something we dont know already.
we know they are good and we know they will probably own us at third strike, but wouldnt it be grand if we could beat them.

Playing against someone that knows how to play and read people is like shooma playing choi at third strike. u guys dont have a chance.
but since its only five bucks its not that big for anybody, so he wont play hardcore. but i’d like to see somebody say they are really good at holdem who plays at the MU and go up against tuan for real big money.

Thanks for the heads-up Tim but I think I’ll be okay. I’m no poker professional but I think I can hold my own. As you said, it’s not like we’re playing for high stakes or anything. And even if he is better than me like John Choi is better than me in fighting games, perhaps I can learn from him and get better. Every time I play or even watch John Choi I usually learn something.
I’m trying to work on the reading people. I’ve gotten better at preventing people from reading me. (At least, I THINK I have. You can never be too sure.)
On second though, maybe I can’t even hold my own. But I’d at least like to play. I really enjoy playing. I’ll never play for big money, though. The only way I’d play for big money in poker is if I actually win enough to do so. That is, I’ll only use poker winnings to play in big poker games.
I’ll bring my sunglasses and lucky charms, just in case. :bluu:
Oh yeah, and I’m also down for some not-so-serious poker as well.
As for 3s, a big part of the reason I want to be on the team is because I think I can help the team win. I think our team has a very real chance of winning the 3s part of the UB. Venkat is better, Tanaka is better, Ryan has GOT to be an improvement over Shooma. Hopefully this plus the 4th person will make us better than last time despite the loss of Hsu. I don’t know if John Choi will make it and the Berkeley team has lost one of it’s members, so overall they might be weaker.

the reason i want to be on the team is that i think i can bring something different to the table like u. and plus last battle royale i could not make it, so i just want to play and make up for what could have been if i played instead of shooma. you have like another 2 years or so left at school, so the young bucks have plenty of time to show their worth. but for us old guys like danny mcmannis (sp), eric chan, and i it will be our last thing we do for davis MU.
and correct me if im wrong guys, i dont think that i am that bad at third strike. i might not be a machine like venkat or tanaka, but i can hold my own against them.
I AM up too late. It sucks when you can’t sleep. It’d be better if I were doing something useful other than trying to sleep. I just wasted 2 hours trying to sleep. It’s not like I’m going to get better at it or anything.

well holdem is not set yet but i will give the time and place by weds night. most likely it will be a $5 buy in and a split of the pot and if enough people show up we will have multiple tables, but first things first. things we definately need to get this going.
we need playing chips, a couple of decks of cards, food&drinks. cause i am pretty sure the host will not provide the food and drink portion.

I just broke my personal record last night. 9 seconds perfect against Venkat in 3S and 15 seconds perfect in ST. I even saved the replays for CvS2 where I did nothing but random tiger knee and small jump and still beat him.
Up to this point, Venkat owes me more than $45 now. That fucker either has to pay his dues or I’ll take away his Naruto keychains, period. LOL

Ok i just talked to Tuan and its a go for Thursday night. Why Thursday night u might ask? Since Danny and Ryan have a secret rendevous on Friday we might as well do it Thursday and depending on what Tuan’s roommates are up to on Friday we may have another one on Friday also, but do not count on it.
We will start it at 5:30 pm sharp, be there by 5:00 pm to sign in and pay. We will discuss all the rules and so on at 5:15 pm. This is a set schedule, so please do not be late. It is rude for the people playing and its rude to the host. Depending on the turnout we expect at least 2 full tables going.
We can discuss right now the buy-in amount. The range seems to be from $5 to $10.
So organize rides and what not, I am able to take 2 additional people. I will be at the MU at 4:30 pm on Thursday.

playing chips if someone has them
FOOD AND DRINKS if u hungry
any folding chairs

well it’s nice to see that i’ve somehow got this reputation as a good poker player…I beg to differ, however. losing $2000 over the last couple of months is definitely not the sign of a good player. yup…in case anybody didnt know: don’t ever play online poker; it’s the biggest scam in the world.
Poker night tomorrow should be fun. Even the great Eric Chan might be down to play. Just a question about the format though…are you guys planning on playing tournament style, with the blinds increasing, no rebuys, and no cashing out? I’d rather just play a regular game where you can buy in and cash out whenever, cause I have to go to work at 8 PM, and I don’t know how long it would last if we played tourney style. Plus if we do a freezeout, players who got eliminated would get pretty bored just standing around watching. just my 2 cents…
