Sorry for not telling my name…my name’s Jake. I don’t think I’ll be using Ky anymore…once I get the console version I’ll be able to practice at home with other characters so that I’m more than just a bystander/training dummy
Thanks to the Reno crew for coming out!
I think I met someone’s father last night as well, was it the Johnny cosplay guy I saw…I was joking about him even playing GGXX let alone picking Johnny, but I was right:)
Enough pleasure talk, back to business
Tentative teams for University Battle are as follows
GGXX: Randy, Tanaka, Scamp, and [insert name here]
(Chan has not gotten back to me and I don’t think he’s doing it)
CVS2: Anthony, Andy, Danny, Tanaka
3S: Tanaka, Venkat, Tim, and Ryan
MVC2: Randy, Andrew Lam, Andy, and [insert name here]
TTT: Koreans
Potential person for MVC2 is Brian Baliwas
Danny has his opportunity to shine in CVS2
Ryan better tighten up his game in 3S or else
Goodbye Eric Hsu

PS - This is my 48 hour annual crying session…leave me alone
I dont have the console version…just read a lot of stuff about GGXX and make up tons of shit…lol…works for me!
Tournament was really fun last night. Congrats to kugler who took first. Great job representing Reno with some Slayer beasting! It was nice to have the Reno guys there. You’re all damn good at GGXX and it was nice being around you guys. Hopeful to see you guys more during Davis tournaments if you can make it.
Good games to Scamp, Nick, and JC. JC, your Testament is simply bad ass and slick. Keep up the good work!
Overall, it was a blast and it was fun playing everyone and the Reno Crew. And in case the Reno Crew is wondering, I was the other Sol player, Scott.
And Scamp… I will take revenge against your May! I will!
Sorry Scott. Now you have to earn your shot at revenge against my May. Before you get to fight my May you have to beat every other May at the tournament.
Hey how come I’m not on the tenative 3s team? I actually don’t mind not being on the team if Tim and Ryan aren’t in any other games but I’m pretty sure Tim’s playing TTT and possibly 3s.
But I’d rather be on the team than not on it.
i think you and ryan and tim should round robin.
i gave ryan the spot
i’ll probably show up for davis bi-weeklys, cuz’ i know a bunch of you guys now and it’s way too much fun. it’s like a party, except … i dunno! not a party! opera + scamp + EVERYONE let’s all go out to eat afterwords next time or something. take me to thai foooooood!
Hey Tony,
Put Kevin in for MvC 2 and if Andy wants he could move to GGXX cause like you said Chan may be busy, but Kevin is a certainly going to come. And place Baliwas in for MvC 2 if he can make it. Just a thought. This way we have a definate team and solid ones at that.
No, thank you. How about a new one?
I went back to a-cho today, but only got to play 4 losing games of GGXX before I had to leave (damned girlfriends). Lost twice to a Robo-Ky, and twice to a Jam. Mother f’n Jam.
GGXX #r in Japan is literally, who do you want to kick your ass? Granted, there are some weak characters like Chipp and Testament, but man, any and everyone can be a uphill battle. This Jam player had some crazy mix-ups, and damned damaging combos, so I just couldn’t keep up. I could win a round or two, but not the fight. I recently switched to using Baiken, but I haven’t used her all that much against real opponents so I still don’t have a good feel for her.
I played a Ky player earlier who basically showed me that no one really knows how to play Ky. Not only did he have an answer to everything I did, the answer came in the form of a high-damaging combo. This, to date, is still the worst GGXX ass kicking I’ve ever gotten, and that includes the one match where I actually got hit by a Destroyed from May, and pretty much any match against Potempkin. I was so impressed, I actually considered using Ky again.
Earlier this month I had some good A3 games…took out a few random A-Ken’s, then I fought against a V-Cody player, and that was epic. He was really good, had a nice ground game, and I couldn’t jump at him at all. It took me a few games to get used to what I could and couldn’t do, but once I did I beat him 3-4 games straight. I got annoyed one round, I made ONE mistake and lost because he just did the crouch cancel infinite in the corner and I was dead. I’d taken off at least half his life by this point, so I was pissed. I responded by beating him pretty badly in the next round.
Next came this V-Sakura player…I whipped him 4 games to 1. I wanted to rematch after the loss, but I think I had to meet my gf and it was about time to go or something like that. He was just a Sak player…he knew the VC and s.roundhouse lockdown and knew all the combos and whatever, but it was like that was it. He just knew what you are supposed to do with V-Sakura, and couldn’t expand. I’d learned my no-jump lesson earlier with the V-Cody player, so he didn’t get any free VC’s on me. And I just played a better ground game.
But after that, I did realize something. In America, we play with many different characters/teams. To be versatile or whatever. If one team/character doesn’t work, switch to another. In Japan, people mostly pick one character/team and stick with it. The result is, you know your characters really well…you know what you can and can’t do against whatever your opponent throws at you. And you spend more time finding ways around difficult matchups, rather than just changing your method of attack. I used to play A-Ryu and V-Charlie in A3, and I used to also play a C-Guile/Ken/R2 Sakura team in CvS2, but I’ve had to give them up since playing at a-cho - if you don’t come with your absolute best, you get spanked pretty hard. As a result, I’ve learned a LOT about A-Karin in A3 and A-Akuma/Bison/R2 Hibiki in CvS2. It’s kinda cool. When you get stomped, instead of changing things up, figure out why you got stomped and how you can change that in the next fight.
CvS2 is, well, CvS2. I haven’t played it recently, so I can’t say much about it. Except that the Sagat’s here can’t handle my Hibiki. At all. It’s weird, I don’t even fear that matchup anymore. Short run slashes as pokes own them for free. The only player who got around that was a N-Ryu…he’d roll on reaction to my run slash, then throw me while I was in recovery. I had to stop doing it alltogether and just walk at him. But the Sagat players haven’t quite figured that out yet. And so far, I have yet to miss my siganture jump/super jump -> activate through anti air -> throw -> air juggle CC. I’ve seen a few other Hibiki’s here, but they ALL do the ground combo.
Oh, and P-Kyo is an absolute beast. Your choices against him are to attack him and die quickly, or do nothing and die slowly. I do sort of want to learn A-Kyo again, but I don’t really want to give up Akuma, Bison, or Hibiki.
i am a chicken, from the kitchen, and i aint kiddin, although nothin is written… ahaHHAha i was just playing parappa and i read azrael-sama’s sig above his avatar…
“damned girlfriends”, eh? Pluralized that shit down? Hmm…
My game was so supreme this Thursday. I didn’t win a single thing in any game, and left to go to the Rec Hall slightly after 8:30PM. I am so champ. I blame it on Great Wall of China II. That shit inhibits my ability to function properly. On top of all that losing, I didn’t switch to Geico, and am even more of a loser. Dammit.
Scamp: I’ll wait for your ass to play FF:CC. Venkat is game? Perhaps Dave Chan is too, if he whores himself on the street.
F_Man, et al: I’ll talk to you guys this week about getting together for poker some time, as we’ve talked about it, but nothing into fruition dammit.
Eric Chan: Rest In Pieces.
So I’m either playing GGXX or MVSC2, eh? I’d rather play MVSC2, and leave a GGXX spot open for somebody that doesn’t have a game, as that is more feasible, methinks. Though, Tree < Lion = Kenya Wins, Lion < Andy Magic = Andy Magic Wins. The Four-Letter A names, Andy/Anji/Alex, will rain magic down upon you like no other. I guess we have to talk slightly more about the remaining spots.
Hmm, I guess I did claim moral victory this tournament, which is all that mattered. I had Randy beat, as it should be, in Marvel, because the extra R in his name stands for Rookie. And against Nick in GGXX, I busted out Andy Magic, and it worked perfectly, even though I lost the round (Good Game by the way). There is no tiering system for Andy Magic, it simply is, beyond mortal comprehension.
heres what i have to say about andy magic…
i wanna learn 3s becuz of urien’s thong power :(, gogogo san francisco aegis reflector!
this is what i have to say about my awesome dudley being beat
heres what i have to say about venkitty…
yo Andy, u should play GGXX cause u are actually really good at it.
Look at that. More posts for little fruition.
Andy: FF:CC is on whenever. We can play that or any other console game with just about any number of people every friday evening on the top floor of Wellman.
Naruto 2 included. Someone please play me in Naruto 2.
F_man once again mentions poker. Once again please invite me to anything poker being planned. I’m poor right now and I need to be richer.
All next week I’m down for any kind of University Battle training. Except for monday and tuesday. So, most of next week I’m down. Andy I can teach you how to beat people down with Anji. Actually, I should say I can teach you how to beat people down once they are down. Anji sucks unless you can do that.
EDIT: Oh yeah, Az. I dunno how Ky is changed in #R but I can say that ID knows how to play KY in GGXX normal. He locked me in the corner then did about 12 hits that I could do nothing but block, it didn’t matter how much I mashed the button I just kept blocking.
Of course, he didn’t have an answer to EVERYTHING I did, but obviously Ky isn’t his best character. It’s scary to think that even though Ky isn’t his best character, he was still better than any other Ky I’d fought before.
Alright if there are spots still open I join the GGXX team.
How’s the MvC2 team? Is there still a spot open?
