Nagata - Let me know if you need volunteers and such and we can then discuss with the Hamilton guys to see who is available to help with anything you need. I can also take the Thursday as a half day to come in early to help setup and test all the equipment so things run as smooth as possible on the Friday. Also count me in for PS3, PS2 and any power bars I might have (should have atleast 2-3)

Heads up that the current BB community has like 5 players… unless the console release suddenly draws like 10 devoted players, I think GG would be a better choice if you want something to happen.
And because theres no GG, most people won’t be going and I’d have no ride there and my devotion to bus for just BB (that I don’t think will go through) isn’t high… I think you should find another director for BB, sorry.
If you don’t feel like running it then I will. Heck i’ll learn the game to run it. TX is gonna be a success!

People crying from Montreal (not all of you, just the cryers): No amount of trolling/crying/bitching is going to matter about the date. If you have classes in college/University, you’ll be in 4th week. That’s AT LEAST 2 weeks before mid terms. You literally have the lightest workload possible before things get hectic. If you’re in high school, you are the only ones I am truly sorry for. I knew it’d be tough for out of town high school players because they’d essentially have to skip class. If you fall in this group, please accept my apologies. I don’t advocate the skipping of HS classes, there are too many repercussions compared to missing a day of University classes.
Concerning people crying about vacation. You have 3 months to book a single day off work. There is no job that can’t accomodate this. The only thing holding you back is your own lazy ass booking the time off now instead of last minute and then crying about how your boss fucked you over. It’s a lame excuse, I’ve seen it hundreds of times. If you somehow work for slave labour, suck it up and drive on the Saturday morning like 10 of us did for MAT this year.
The weather is not a factor and the single weakest excuse I have ever heard for not attending a tournament. “OH GOD THE LEAVES ARE CHANGING! WHATAMIGONNADO?!” You want to talk about shit weather? Talk to the 2 car loads that attended MAT IV in -30 degree winter and took the walk of doom after Day 1 trying to find a hotel.
I personally think you guys are flat out ungrateful and selfish on this one. Year after year Toronto sends 15 - 20 people to Montreal. We sacrifice time off work to show up for your standard Friday/Saturday format (instead of the traditional Saturday/Sunday) and if we can’t do it on the Friday we show up 6 hours each way for a SINGLE DAY and never complain. We showed up in years past in dead of winter March with students smack in the middle of mid terms, CARRYING TEXT BOOKS WITH THEM!
Somehow you can’t pull your shit together on THREE MONTHS NOTICE because it’s not in July? You need to get over yourselves. No one player is bigger than the tournament he enters.

Mao; I just re-read your post. You gave me a list of possible dates we could accomodate and I gave you the most ideal one for my schedule. We both know the only reason it works that way is because I’ll put in the legwork to get a large group to come with me. If I couldn’t accomodate the dates given and life would have gone on. Please don’t try to pin MAT’s date on me. All I gave you was a suggested date and you ran with it.
Phewww, I had vacation to hk that month and had to check the dates on my airplane tickets and see that I will be back in Toronto on Friday the 25th. That means I can still make the Sat/Sun but will probably be jet lagged and out of practice

Uhh it means skipping two days of college (friday monday). I personally dont really care about the temperature its really the fact that I have to skip 2 days of classes+take 2 days off my part time job(I only work sats and sundays ) That means no pay for a week September is just whack July was perfect
It means skipping the Friday. As I said earlier that’s a small price to pay out of an entire semester/year. No one is asking Montreal to miss school/work on Monday. The Sunday is a carry over day. If people actually show up on time for the carry over they’re done by 5pm or so and everyone gets home at a decent hour. Monday isn’t a factor and never was. I can understand not wanting to miss work on a weekend if you work part time. I did the college + part time (I actually worked 2 jobs totalling 14 hours a day on weekends when I was 20/21) thing and I know it can sting to miss work. It’s a matter of what you want though. If you’re living cheque to cheque well… that’s a problem unto itself. Otherwise missing a weekend to get out to the GTA can’t really be that big a deal. Inconvenient I can understand. It’s hardly unworkable though.
On a related note, no one ever said TX was going to be in July. People make assumptions and then get upset when it doesn’t go the way they THINK.
T tournaments used to be in August because we didn’t want to conflict with EVO. It was that way for 3 years until EVO moved to the middle of July this year. Anyone can see the writing on the wall that you don’t book 2 weeks before or after EVO. It’s just flat out stupid from a numbers perspective.
September was the next best opportunity and coincided with the POWNZ grand opening of their new location. The posotive uptick of running at POWNZ where the LCD TV’s are provided along with some consoles, a second staff to bolster our own, and a good location far outweighed any other option to host a major console tourney.
I probably won’t be able to make it.
My second child is due September 8th.
We’ll see. My mother-in-law might help me out on this one.

Also, new POWNZ location is hype. That’s awesome.
IF (IF!) I’m able to come out to this one, I’ll help out with setting stuff up and whatever else you guys need help with.
I think the “Random Game Tournament” is an awesome idea and I recommend:
- Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- Some sort of TETRIS game (Tetris is the best fucking game ever made, period)
- Puzzle Fighter

My av was made last year before EVO changed things. A new one is already in the works with the new date edited in.
You’re right in that my old one could cause confusion though. I’ll keep this for a bit.
I don’t agree that you can’t have a tourney 2 weeks before or after evo…
No one in montreal is going to evo and even if you held it the same weekend of evo we would still go.
Also, montreal staff is willing to volunteer and bring ps3’s.
If a decent amount of good players and some tourney directors are not going to evo and are available, I don’t see why a tourney cannot be held in July.
IMO, yearly tourneys should always be in the summer. It’s always been that way, people have the funnest time on road trips in the summer, and why change it now ?
Fuck Evo. Just because a few people are going to evo and don’t want to miss T10 doesn’t mean the rest of us (vast majority) should suffer.
MAT is nothing without Toronto, and T tourneys are nothing without Montreal. I know because I’ve been there since day one. We have to work together on this.
