TW's 2: @ the dojo, Seth Division: 07/17/10

Just curious, what day do the tournament usually happen on?

Saturday from 10.30 pm - 3ish am.

I refer to you as Furious Jodim.

As much as I dislike the emphasis on ocv’s in season 1, season 2’s ocv rules are just gross. Frank, please, please change this. Season 1 rules regarding points were fine why mess with it?

i believe i stated why i changed it. Get into the mentality of killing your opponents.

Also RagePenguin and JWO have officially signed up for season 2…with Zig21 and Tepid being a possibility.

I think the best way would be for a team to get a point every time they win, that way close matches won’t leave you too far behind and when you get OCVd it’ll still suck cus youll get 0 points.

Here’s what i have for teams so far please let me know if I’ve forgotten someone.

SSFIV: 16 teams

The Muggish Negroes - Deezo/Mechanica
Adam/King
Strawberry Sex - Ghrrk/Kriangkrai

Furious Jodo/MysticCubistic
Team 817 - Dkn29/B0kkin
Team Salt? - Mac/Jerry?
Hanz & Franz - Nolander/JaLapno
Brentobox/Airthrow
Stretch Lightning - Awesome Jones/DeLucifer
Riki-Oh/Tanaka Force
Hungry Hungry Santos - Mickey D’/Guacsta

HDR: 3 teams

IFHTG - Trace/Deezo
SST - Axel/Beasily
Meximagination - Airthrow/HeavyD

I would like to ask that you use everyones SRK names or something because its hella jarring to see half of them be first names and the other half being srk names. It would also be tight if you could pop the team names on the left or right side only. Finally, I laughed out loud at mickey’s team name. That is all!

Frank, you forgot me and Dan #1 for HDR, team Meximagination.

Hyre/Mikehascookies - Black Dynamite

You forgot Me and JTS

Turtle Bait Stunnaz

What Eman said. Honestly now? Can’t we just have a match, winner wins, loser…loses? Fuck these overly complex rules that aren’t needed.
It’s to make you want to play harder, better, (faster stronger)? Your fault if you go into this season and don’t.

I just feel like it’s just silly to have these rules when running it normally will yield the most accurate results. As opposed to strong teams earning extra…GP is you will, for beating an up and coming team.

All that said, I’m too confident in my Season 2 performance to care about giving up OCV’s, but reading the rules makes me cringe. Simplicity please.

Also, is there a team cap? Not sure if I should sign up to reserve or if it matters…

no cap on teams. I’ll make a poll for the OCV rule.

Oh yeah, Peachy and Trace are on a team.

Definitely not into the ocv rules. I thought bonus points for an ocv was gross, but stealing points is even more gross. You don’t get a bye for beating an opponent in a singles tournament 4-0 so why should we get bonuses/deficits for something our teammate did in a team tournament? I agree that a W should be a W. I don’t like that my team could have like twice as many wins as another team but if they had one buff teammate who got OCV’s that could even up the scores. Some wins shouldn’t count more than another win. Can we have comeback point/reverse OCVs? Like when mystic beat my team up and then I beat their whole team up? That was tight and I didn’t get no bonus for that. That’s way more pressure than an OCV.

My team gets their wins as a team. In a team tournament. Fancy that! Ain’t got no cheesy ass Dhalsim beating up people who don’t know how to fight Dhalsim. Lemme mash out some empty jump final atomic busters for some free OCVs on lesser teams so I can get a seed into finals.

Beasting. I’m going to leave it up to the poll to decide (which is already looking like a no).

Why u gotta bring that up Elias :frowning:

Anyways, the OCV rules make sense, and it will definitely create a spread in skill while keeping things more competitive. The only problem I have with it is that there are gonna be approx 2x more teams this season and will probably be an 8 game season. Now more teams are a good thing, but with only 8 games before playoffs, I can foresee some teams having a really tough draw while others not so tough.

Imagine this, Team A and Team B are very similar in skill level and if they were to play it could be either teams game. Now assume Team A and Team B aren’t say top tier(not characters) teams (Grandmasters, TDP, FATS). If Team A is lucky and has a decent draw for the season while Team B’s draw includes the top 4 finishers, this is where the OCV rule will fail in accurately placing teams. If there are only going to be 8 playoff spots again, this gives little to no chance for Team B to make the playoffs while Team A might have an easy entrance.

Of course in a tournament like EVO your draw could be terrible or great, so I can see where Frank’s coming from with this rule and since it’s a season, in some cases just NOT getting OCV’d could be training for high pressure situations. Also if you’re one of those teams who is up there but maybe not #1, the competition for getting as many OCVs as possible could change the ordering among the top batch of teams. In the end I can see how the OCV system can make more people play more competitively, especially since everyone on each team gets to play in each game.

While I think the thought process behind the OCV rule is great, I find the end result is it simply increases the disparity between better players and lesser players. This is painful to free teaming as it places pressure on league players to team up with whoever is viewed as “the best”. You could argue that this is already the case but I think its better to promote emphasis on “Anyone can win” (drawing more players, a larger scene, and more risk between teams as to who gets the pot) instead of “The Better players/teams ‘Win’ more points than worse players/teams”.

Case in point: I watched Tanaka from the grandmasters dismantle many teams single handed. Even if for some reason at all Grandmasters didn’t make spot #1 in their division, they carried such a high point record they would of practically been guaranteed the best wildcard spot anyways. The OCV point rule I find is a detriment to one of the main focus’ of tournament wars: Strengthening our Scene as a whole. (Alongside providing a spot for tournaments/gatherings and keeping us concentrated on leveling up our game).

Elias summed it up.

I’ll play with any rules but I have to agree I think the main emphasis, in a TEAM tournament, should be winning as a team, not maximizing your OCVs, which is an individual effort.

Frank, maybe there is a way to accomodate both people who want OCV’s and people who don’t? I can see the reasoning behind wanting people to beast as hard as possible. However I think taking points away is gross.

Maybe the guy who gets the most OCV’s could get like 5-10% of the entry fees for a beasting bonus? That way, the team that wins the most as a TEAM is still the overall winner (otherwise IMO there is no point), plus people have reason to be hungry lone wolves on top of that.

It is your tournament and you have invested the most in it so I will respect whatever you choose to do. Just my idea.

LOL ELIAS /SALTY thats hella funny
