TvC: Tier List Speculation

There’s vids of Grand Finals from Sinsation. Not sure what they’re tagged at, but they do exist.

Once again like I said before, IAD is slow since he has to wait till the end of the dash before he attacks, otherwise it will whiff and leave him open. You have to wait till he starts to drop at the end for it to connect. So really, there’s plenty of time to react to an IAD. High Low mix up is kinda non existent with Karas.

All I wanna say is, on the boards it’s easy to state the counters to Karas and simplify him to a bunch of low spam, when in reality it gets down to much more than that. If all you had to do was block low then I don’t think he would be one of the best, if not the best character in the game at this point but whatever… when it gets down to it, you’re still gonna try to attack at the wrong time and get countered and BOOM-combo. Karas for president.

Keits - Part of being a top player in any game is knowing how to handle pressure, whether it be people in the background trash-talking or the fact that the whole venue is watching your match…if you’re gonna compete in any fighting game you’re gonna have to learn to not get nervous because when all is said and done you can’t use “I choked” or “I was nervous” as an excuse for losing any match. Even if it’s the truth, it’s still your fault for not being able to control your nerves. Think of all the pressure pro sports players have to deal with, how hard do you think it is for them to focus on shooting a basketball or scoring a touchdown when they know millions of people, including loved ones and friends are watching?

Just a little friendly tip there… I shouldn’t be reading “I choked” on SRK, leave that to the n00bs.

**xSamuraix **- IAD to 2A works amazingly, most people don’t expect you to NOT attack and they stand up blocking and expect blockstun from the j.C but it doesn’t happen and they end up taking the 2A. Use your assist as cover while you jump so they think you’re going for an overhead.

Another thing is…if your opponent is awesome, as a last resort you can probably IAD to grab, I wouldn’t use this on impulsive players and it also forms a huge hole in your pressure game but for turtle types like J.Wong their patience may get the best of them in this situation. Keep in mind though if you pull out your assist in the air as cover for your IAD the opponent goes into block animation and you won’t be able to grab them until they get out of it which takes quite a while.

These are probably the only viable mixups but it’s better than IAD to j.x because it’s obvious as hell…even the n00bs at my school catch it.

Yeah I’ve been using that a bit, although people do block it around here surprisingly well.

As for the setup, IAD j.A tick throw is hella fast when you do it right. That’s generally the setup I use. Or simply call assist and throw them before the assist hits, lol.

Hell just cross up dash into grab works half the time when they’re defensive minded.

Yah it sucks I can’t try out any of that dash into grab stuff because the people I play will attack whenever they think they could so I generally keep spamming 2A, dash in, 2A, dash in, etc etc until they get hit…which they will because they don’t know any better lol. I’m gonna start teaching then how to counter it so I can get in some better practice hehe.

Silven - "I choked’ is not an excuse. Its what happened. I dont think getting 5th in TvC and 4th in HDr while playing poorly is that bad, either. Do you?

Dude you suck. Just like getting 2nd place sucks.

But hey man seriously don’t worry about it. Everyone gets hit with the choke bat every now and then.

LOL, still doesn’t mean you have to let everyone know. If you choked, keep it to yourself. I thought the Capcom gamers were hardcore, even the Smash people don’t say that stuff…

Those only apply if your opponent’s defending against jump-ins on the floor. Jump-blocking as Karas’ jump attacks and push-blocking supersedes any ad-hoc mix-up that he has, that’s why you don’t see Marn grabbing JWong or hitting him with a tricky low, because the opportunity is non-existent. If Karas’ is on the floor, low-block, if he jumps, jump-block; mix in some push-blocking and Karas’ has nothing short of pressure, even with an assist, Justin proved it. That’s not to say that it’s easy, responding to every IAD Karas’ attempts with a jump-block is much tougher in execution then in theory.

EDIT: Unless you were talking about air grabs. That just might work.

lol ricky bobby if you aint first youre last.

is this an e-penis match, because mine is hugeeeeee

You’re a retard. If you choke you should hide it and pretend you didn’t just to prove how cool you are? That’s proving a point, for sure.

Name calling, really mature. I’m sure if I called you a retard (which frankly I think you are) I bet I’d get banned for it but since you seem to be good friends with Keits so you’re excused of course. Congrats.

Anyway

Let me dumb it down for you since my point in my previous posts regarding Keits went way over your head.

If you are nervous in a match or you choke, nobody cares, nobody wants to know that. Pro gamers, IN GENERAL learn to control that, even if they do get nervous they don’t go and talk about it later and say stuff like “I got 5th because I was nervous” and whine about it, it’s not a legitimate excuse at all. Staying cool in high pressure situations (grand finals in a tournament for example) is a very professional trait which apparently certain people don’t have…if you can’t deal with it you’ll always be a bad player when it comes to results because it means you’ll always choke whenever you have a crowd around you and it will make you play bad. If you can’t focus with people commenting, going “ooh, ahh” and trash-talking you then you’re probably not cut out for tournaments…sorry to say. Having a bad day is a different story, personally I don’t believe in bad days. I believe in bad “moments” where you just completely suck at a game for a period of time. It gets better with warm-ups but yah that’s besides the point.

Whiner: “Hey GG man but I only lost because I choked, otherwise I would have beaten you”

Whinee: “Riiiiiiiiiiight”

That’s generally what the guy will be thinking in his head, he might not say it to your face but he will probably be thinking a long those lines.

Seriously though, you’re either defending Keits and hanging on his every word or bashing someone who disagrees or says anything negatives towards the guy. Stop your meatriding and learn to start thinking for yourself dude. I know you guys are friends but seriously hop off already…I think it’s about time.

You really don’t even make sense in your post come to think of it… so now I know you’re just trolling for the sake of being annoying or just trying to help your buddy Keit. Nice try but next time at least try to make it look like you made sense.

waits for you to attempt to justify your lame excuse for a rebuttle

Careful of making good points or they might say you’re derailing the thread and or give you an infraction.

I don’t agree with that. Saying you chocked is an admission of a personal mistake. It’s no different than saying that you only won because my execution sucks, which could be very true, but it still makes them the better player. Doing well under pressure is part of being a good player.

This. He’s admitting he messed up, and first it was “well that’s not an excuse.” And then when he said 'it’s not an excuse you said “well don’t say it anyways, nobody wants to hear it” or something.

Also @ you two buddies, you know who you are. You talk a whole lot, quite frankly I wish Keits would just kick you off, but he hasn’t yet. You continue to talk shit, and when some of us call you out, you get this “fight the power” attitude just because Keits is a mod. This is a tier list discussion and you continue to level personal attacks at people, and I also see you just being a dick from time to time in the Karas boards, if I were him, you’d have been gone a while ago, and yet you remain.

To be fair if someone makes a personal attack or says something about a player in a thread, I think they have a right to defend themselves. Maybe this all is off topic for a tier thread but really this has just been a general TvC discussion thread for a while. Granted, I find the stuff we’ve been talking about lately a lot more interesting than what was going on before.

In regards to choking, I kind of agree with both sides of the argument. Yeah, it’s a valid reason for losing, but it’s also something that’s just part of being a good tournament player. I see people in my area that are great players but just can’t hold up in tournament play, and the same couple of people winning all the time at tournaments, mainly because they play excellent under tournament pressure, maybe even better than normal. It’s part of the whole equation of fighting games really, so if you lost, you lost, nerves or not. It was still you losing.

Truthfully I don’t think anyone cares what happened outside of Marn / Justin though. I certainly don’t even know who had 3rd place and below and from my understanding it was basically like 2 different levels of players there.

Yeah, seems like that’s the attitude. Apparently though, somebody threw Justin into the losers bracket? This is what I heard, but I’m not sure. Actually I’m gonna head on over to the tourney results and see if there’s anything about this. Maybe I’m wrong.

This is exactly what you guys need to read, and then you need to get back on topic. I’ve been going to tournaments and hosting tournaments since 1999. I’ve done VERY well many many times, and I’ve choked many many times. Never did I say “I choked OR I would have won”. I simply played poorly and lost. I’m over it. I didnt bring it up after FF. I only brought it up when Marn started talking needless shit at me when he just learned my name 2 months ago. I havent talked shit at anyone. I tend only to do that IN a match.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…

3 Points, read them and learn them:

**1.) This is a tier list discussion thread. ** If your post is not directly about that…

**2.) You will be on a final warning after this post or…
**
**3.) If your name starts AND begins with an “X”, you are already on a final warning. **

I have no issues with giving any of you, j1n and yourmother included, a temp ban to let you know how serious I am. This is a sub-forum for a specific game, and it is meant to be an informational zone for players of that game. Take your discussion about which excuses you think are acceptable out of here. You dont see me posting the nice list of locals I’ve landed top 3 positions in, or Majors I’ve landed top 8 in… why? Because it isnt relevant to the discussion.

Only 4 of the top 8 used Karas (though DH has a question mark?), and only 3 used Chun, where as 6 used Ryu at some point. All in all, the selection was rather diverse; you even have a little Ippatsuman, Ken, Lightan, Batsu and Yatterman action mixed in their.

nice diversity. if karas was not so manly, i think there would be even more diversity, but its a tournament, and you play to win, not to be different. i knew top 8 would look like that. i wonder how many people entered
