Because at teh end of the day, winning is more fun than taking risks and losing.
play to win
id like to know the mindset of a player who cant sit still for 2 seconds and has to jump in with HK all day even when im punishing him every time.
if you aren’t playing to win you’re a scrub
dont hit me
I turtle with bad players. I go batshit insane with good players.
I have a theory that different people enjoy different things. But it’s just a theory.
A self-proclaimed troller of the trolls like yourself should have no problem realizing the fun in turtling people who can’t play carefully.
Do the Ninja Turtles play it safe?
I don’t know why one would do this. It would bore the crap out of me.
But btw, doesn’t it feel great to beat the crap out of a turtler?
They supply in that pleasure too you know.
Turtling is just about staying in control. If I’m playing against someone who is willing to do anything and press any button anytime they’re close, then turtling is the best option. I’m certainly not going to run at him and get randomed out. The other day I was playing Marvel on PSN. I came across this guy using Silver Samurai, Omega Red and Tron. Now keep in mind, I had Santhrax. I’m a pretty bad Marvel player, as my execution sucks for the most part, but I know a few tactics. Basically at the beginning of the match, this guy just started running at me full force. New thing you know, my storm is like almost dead. So I get Sentinel in, fly a little bit, punish him with Cap when I can, and catch his tron out.
So seeing as he lost his most damaging option in the match, guess what he did? I tried to rush him down, seeing as Tron is no longer a factor. So I got rush him down, and while I’m hitting him he’s hitting random buttons. He even hit me with a fucking super after I knocked him down. So I was like fuck it, let me call in Storm and just build up meter and chip this guy down while I still have the life lead. And of course I just flew around the screen building meter, and chiping him, ocassionally catching him with a hell storm.
Needless to say, I get three long messages about how terrible I am. So what was I suppose to do, just run in at him and get randomed out since he clearly was willing to mash out anything. Turtling is good for players who simply don’t respect situations. People who love to dp through block strings, mash on jab anytime they get knocked down, who love to jump at you on wakeup, or any other random scrubby bullshit. So for players like that, turtling is fine.
Are you asking this because of SF4s engine and the fact that its very turtle friendly?
Why put yourself at risk when the other person is quite clearly doing it for you?
It’s the best way to play the game without having to play creative. Just sit back, and counter defend. If you know how to defend nothing can go wrong unless you’re playing someone much better than you.
You cant understand the content’s value with out understanding the content itself.
OP I think you don’t understand turtling at all. Turtling come in many forms and the most genuine answer to why some players turtle simply is because they can do it.
Because a lot of the characters I play seem to like you to be at either long range or right in the opponent’s face and taking a defensive stance seems to help me acheive these positions quite a bit with minimal “Ah **** ran onto his freaking dragon punch” moments, will rush down but mainly when the opponent is at a disadvantage (hit with frog ect).
Well if you try to understand why a person plays the way they do, it may actually make you better equipt to beat them.

Get on it, homey.
lol I do exactly the opposite.
Doesnt matter if its boring, as long as you win.
I dont turtle because I dont care enough to drag a match out for so long. Lots of people do seem to care enough though.
I like to play against turtle players, get them almost ko’ed and then walk away from my stick. I’ll like go outside and puff a smoke or go take a piss and when I get back to my stick the turtle is still sitting on the other side of the screen throwing fireballs and playing footsies by himself. Seems silly to me but whatever. Different strockes for different folks.
p.s. funny thing is that the 4 top tier characters (july tier list crap) in super are turtle/charge characters.
They’re waiting for an opportunity that most likely won’t come.
I turtle because I personally find it easier to read my opponent and react appropriately than to learn long combos and setups for big damage.
