Try my independent fighting game: WofCF

Hi. Thank you! I would love to use some art, but there are some problems. I don’t use fancy stuff like Unity and stuff like that, I use c++/opengl/sdl. My opengl code is VERY old style (90’s), because I did it for fun, and programming in this old style is fun for me. I cannot just “load a model and animate” because the animation system is very specific, its the animation system that made possible to make all the movements with minimum effort. So in order to use a standard 3D model, I would have to rewrite almost all the system.

But

I’m planning a new game to start the next months, july I think. This game will be sprite based, but with a system that will require a few sprites for each character because of something new I’m planning to do. I would love some colaboration in the art.

thank you for the positive feedback.

I’d be happy to collaborate :). Drop me a pm when the time comes

I’m liking some of your ideas. No knockdowns just focusing purely on spacing and footsies. But others like no corners. ( Hey I can backdash all day! ) And no CHARACTERS?! That’s like the appeal of fighters for most gamers! Like no other genre in gaming boast as many memorable and standout character designs as the fighter genre. Now with the custom avatars this handicap isn’t as bad and avid fighting games fans would probably give it a try. And if that’s your target audience this could work. But if you’re trying to go for mass appeal, forget it. You must deliver a full package which includes characters and animations. But I wish you luck though.

Thank you for the feedback.
About the corners, the running speed is faster than back dashing, but against the cpu it can be a problem, but some work in A.I. code would fix that. I know a lot of people like corner gameplay, but i dropped it first because it is much more complex to balance the game, and because I hate to lose in the corner, so it is a very personal choice too ;-).
About the lack of specific characters, I agree with you that there is a lot of appeal in more well designed characters, and I knew before hand that it would negatively impact the interest in my game, but that were some constraints I had to have to be able to create a fighting game with limited resources. I’m not trying to reach a wide audience because it is a project for my free time, for fun, and I want to experiment to see what works, what could be different etc…
I’m beginning my next fighting game, this next game will have characters and will be sprite based, but will have some things very unique. I plan to have some working demo in one or two months.
Thank you.

New version of my game!!! I changed the lighting of the game to match the more minimalist style of it. In fact I dropped all lighting. This change also made the frame rate very stable. Please tell me if this style is better. I’m sorry but I don’t have videos yet. The l,ink for download is:

I will pause the development of this game for now, I’m vary satisfied with the results so far and I’m full of ideas for a new, sprite based fighting game. The name of the new game is Way of the Flying Sword.

Now, a small teaser of my next game:

I will start a new thread for this game once I have more substantial things to show, and a playable demo.

^Video not working.

Now it is working, for some reason, youtube videos do not work in SRK forums if the code assigned by youtube has an hifen “-”.
I reposted the video to generate a new code.
A lot of trouble for a 3 secods videos
