If you own any other version of Megatron - literally throw it away.
This is MP Megatron. Itâs complex, but after you transform it once, it is intuitive enough for you to never look at the instructions again.
There are a few proportion things that I donât care for and the back doesnât clean up that well. However, from an engineering perspective, this figure nails it all. The leg transformation to gun mode made me laugh at how genius and simple it is (kinda like Infernoâs ladder)
A word of caution - DO NOT SLIDE THE BARREL EXTENSION ALL THE WAY DOWN! IT WILL RUB THE PAINT!
I got a small scratch on mine from doing so. Other than that, itâs a keeper. I donât know what I will do with Apollyon, but itâs getting tossed out of the display case.
I know i said I was getting out of the classics game, but ran in TRU and came out with the TR Chaos on Velocitron set and Triggerhappy.
Letâs start with the bad -
Chaos on Velocitron is pretty much an ensemble of repaints that surprisingly enough is priced well. You get the following -
Rodimus Prime - a die cast Titanmaster head
Nautica - Retool/ Repaint of Blurr with thrusters
Fastclash - 1/2 of the clone duo from G1 (the car) (new mold)
Laser Prime - A repaint of voyager Prime from TR in all its G2 glory
Quickswitch - A redeco of Sixshot
Itâs $99 and itâs not bad for what it is, but wasnât impressed at all. The TM Rodimus was just a titanmaster with a die cast face. Nothing to run home about. Nautica was actually the best part of the set, but IMO doesnât really capture the look in the face. Fastclash is another example of G1 to a fault. Itâs the most useless altmode I have seen in a while. Laser Prime is decent, but I own the OG G2 release and the RTS version. When I opened the box, I was stunned to see how small the vehicle mode of the figure was. That just set me off in the wrong way. Quickswitch is a straight recolor of Sixshot with a different TM. I never liked the figure then and donât like it now. For me, it goes from shape with wheels to shape with wings, to shape with treads, etc. Itâs not discernible in any way.
I have since sold the set (in parts) to members of the various TF facebook groups.
If you donât own any of those molds and want them, go for it. If you already own them, there is nothing here that makes it worth double dipping unless you have an affinity for the characters or looking to get both clones at some point. I must warn you that people are scalping this set because of the clone figure. I sold the set pretty much at cost, but I have seen Fastclash go for $25 and up.
Triggerhappy on the otherhand is the definition of a âgood transformerâ. The transformation is relatively simple, but also has a few tricks in the conversion. Just the right amount of paint apps and fairly poseable. My only gripe is that it is a Titanmaster instead of a targetmaster.
Iâm going to head this off at the pass.
One of the fan sites (Seibertron.com) has posted an article about paint and breakage of MP-36. It cites The Chosen Primeâs letter to purchasers on paint scraping when applying the silencer and chipping when transforming. I will admit that this is true. The suppressor is a very tight fit so there is some paint rub, but it is very minor. I have not experienced chipping anywhere else. These photos are from my figure after removing the suppressor several times.
The article uses a broken barrel and a few other pics to make it seem like itâs a widespread problem. IT IS NOT!
It was found that the person inserted the barrel misaligned and twisted the barrel off. The others are users yanking the joint or forcing it incorrectly. I transformed this thing at least a dozen times, and no issues. The figure is well built. Keep in mind that this is a $180+ collectible. Just donât rush, donât force fit, and follow the instructions and you will be fine.
I never really read Seibertron.com but that was a very misleading article.
I had Apollyon as a stand-in for MP5 Megs, since he was horribly out of scale compared to the rest.
I agree on you with MP 36 Megatron, it blows any other MP styled Megatron out of the water. Iâm very content with it.
Luckily I was able to sell of my Apollyon very quickly.
Speaking of X-Transbots, Iâm never buying one of their products again, although they have the look down, the sturdyness and QC is pretty horrible (arms popping of the joints while moving it⊠come onâŠ)
The only 3rd party company I approve of (if you want that G1 look) is Fans Toys.
I am gonna try to sell Apollyon for quarters. A lot of collectors donât want to because they look at what they paid vs. what they can get for it now. I didnât get into this space for making money, I just want figures that represent the characters displayed on a shelf in my home. In the same vein, how much is it worth to you collecting dust. I have already moved Apollyon out of my display case and donât really have a place for it.
Does anyone own the Wei-Jang MPP-01 (OS AOE Evasion Mode Prime)? I just bought the MB-11 which is pretty much the APS-01U version of the ROTF leader Prime without all of the stealth force additions and the MECH TECH guns. Something about the MPP-01 seems âoffâ now.
Technically that figure has been released twice already. Itâs decent as Optimus, but something about it just feels wrong as that character.
Thew is probably one of my favorite TF reviewers (even though his stuff is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind most others). Itâs more entertainment for me than anything else.
I still really like Mightron but havenât gotten around to picking him up yet. Maybe with the event of the new MP, fans will be looking to ditch their Mightrons and sales will lower. Causing a drop in price.
