No plans for a Transformers and My Little Pony crossover, more Grimlock coming, and aftermath of Dark Cybertron/Crystal City to be explored in RID #33.
Dat Faux Chest though. I can’t hate, it does look good, I just wonder why HasTakTomy decided to incorporate the cockpit chest into the robot mode, and keep it for looks. That’s the one thing that I hate about some TFs are parts there for design aesthetic that aren’t actually part of the vehicle.
The new toys do cause envy in me, but I’ve officially cut my son off from new toys for a long while, to his credit he’s only 3 - but he lacks any level of respect for toys, breaking them on purpose at times and not like me. When I broke a Transformer on purpose, it was to do some Toy Story 1 type stuff and give my GI Joe cyborg legs. So while these new toys are boss, he won’t know…
though I do miss the old school McDonald Transformers…those need a retro…
A german fansite had a vote in and has compiled a top 30 TF toys. Interesting that no version of Megatron was on there, but 4 optimus lol.
Soundwave and Grimlock had 2 top spots in the top 10.
I don’t know when this list came out but, but MP-12 (Sideswipe), MP Seekers, and the Alternity Convoy not being there are shocking. PM Prime is a pretty bad ass figure and did not surprise me to see it land in the top 10.
I had a bit of nostalgia hit me over the last few days. I am training to run in my girlfriend’s team for the Palmetto Walk for Life and was listening to a few tracks from the TFTM '86 soundtrack. Songs such as “Hunger”, and “Nothing’s Gonna Stand in Our Way” just make good running songs. So because of that I got the itch to watch the movie last night. Its been some years and why not. I was like a little kid. I bought some soft baked Chocolate chip cookies from the grocery’s bakery and a glass of milk and was ready. I was smiling from ear to ear. Nothing like hearing the rock version from the movie. After the Season 1 version, this is my favorite version:
Tell you what, nostalgia is a very cruel master. That movie starts out awesome. . . . . and then Optimus Prime dies. That was the climax of the movie and nothing else really got to that level again. You never see your G1 faves again. Outside of the Dinobots, who really said their favorite Transformer was Perceptor? As I was watching, I didn’t care about any of the other new Autobots/ Decepticons. I actually got bored with it on occasion. This literally felt like a HasTak exercise of “LET ME SHOW YOU HOW AWESOME THESE NEW TOYS ARE”. This is reflected in Season 3 LOL as it’s the part of the series I just kinda “forget”. The score by Vince DiCola just works all the way around and the rock tracks just ooze 80’s feels. Outside of Hot Rods endless transformation variants, this is probably the best stuff we see in the stateside continuity. As a TF fan, it’s a welcome part of the lore, but looking at it openly, it’s just an marginally average movie with an awesome franchise and history attached to it.
Overall thoughts
A must see for a Transformers fan - S+ Rank
For everyone else, it’s just alright - C
Don’t kill me guys LOL
On the Sony DVD that was released about 7 years ago, there is a popup video thing that has little facts. If you are a TF Fan, you’ll know most of them. The only one that shocked me was the movie release date. August 8th 1986. So go watch it this Friday
