Primus is awesome, but has problems. they dont ruin it though, a definite buy in my opinion.
Unicron has a nice robot mode but a lackluster alt mode. plus his wings have nothing to attach to in robot mode so they just flop around unless you feng shui them onto his shoulders, then they point forward and look pretty imposing. so yeah, the wings are the biggest design flaw of Unicron…so long as you ignore his shitty planet mode.
get both I guess, but Primus is much more impressive and worth the money. you could probably find unicron cheap since he started clogging the shelves way back.
I don’t have Unicron, but I do have Primus. He’s pretty cool. I managed to get him for like $20 online (was close to $40 normal retail). I remember when Walmarts had entire walls of him. It’s a shame they didn’t run any sales because I definitely would’ve picked up a few more. The head sculpt and arms are perfect for gestalt customs.
With Unicron, I plan on picking him up. He’s been released under the Universe line. I agree, he looks pretty damn close to the way he appeared in the 86 movie. But DK can probably tell you more than I can since he probably owns this as well as the dark variant.
There is a TRU, Takara, and I believe Encore version. They’re going to be re-releasing him under the Universe line as well. There are also lots of Knock-offs.
Yes, again later this year as part of the 25th Anniversary line.
Yes, it is very much worth getting them both.
Unicron Re-Issues are actually hitting ToysRus now. $50.
He’s a great toy. Don’t let a vocal minority of collectors influence your opinion of him. Unicron is just flat out impressive. His alt mode is not nearly as bad as people say. The issue at hand is really that it is kind of difficult to get him into planet form. Then you just have to accept that he isn’t perfectly round. Essentially, he has a ‘flat’ part, making him 75-80 sphere. This lets him sit on a shelf without ‘rolling’. You won’t notice it, believe me.
Primus is pretty much perfect. No exaggeration there.
Thanks for the thoughts guys. Looks like I’ll be picking up a Universe Unicron.
And Primus too since he can be had for cheap
Thinking about swinging by my local Toys R Us sometime this week and seeing if they have the new Unicrons! If they have it for $49.99, I’m copping :bgrin:
Oh sure, don’t ask SMB because he’s unemployed and selling sperm, blood and his body on the streets to make money…
I have Unicron and I bought Primus & Unicron for my son. Between the two Primus is much cooler because Hasbro was able to recognize the design flaws with Unicron and not repeat those mistakes with Primus. Primus is packed with some really cool features where as Unicron is kinda meh.
But every TF fan has to have Unicron in their collection. That’s like a Barbie collector having nothing but Ken dolls. My Unicron is currently suspended in planet mode hanging from the ceiling.
I would actually suggest you wait on buying Unicron because TRU will probably clearance them out again like they did about three years ago. They had stacks of Unicron’s for $10.00. Definitely worth the price.
I know it’s such a minor thing but Hasbro really needs to let that whole short stack/child safety issue go. Any child who’s stupid enough to poke their eyes on these is 1) too dumb and 2) shouldn’t be playing with it in the first place.
And I’d rather pay $60.00 for a straight original re-issue than that bullshit piece Hasbro is releasing for $75.00. No one is going to buy that at that price.
Hey, who was it that said they always wanted to get MP Ultra Magnus but it was too expensive? TFSource has them in stock for $97.00. Linkage.
yeah, its not Hasbro thats to blame. its the bullshit safety regulations we have in America (the very same ones that kept Fort Max from being reissued.)
Yea, the only real plus I see to buying this is if you’re looking for another variant of the G1 Prime toy to add to your collection because it comes with all this commemorative crap. The Encore one is probably your best bet because Takara’s reissue version with the IDW style artwork on the front is upwards of $250-300.
And I too will be pre-ordering my MP Magnus and Thundercracker soon enough.
why is it that G1 prime reissues always go for so much on the second hand market?
I mean, theyre always reissuing him so wouldnt the value of previous figures go down?
