I haven’t done much customizing on my figures, at least not yet. I want to get a little better at painting before I tackle that. I don’t intend to sell my figures anyway. Anyone who buys this stuff and hopes to sell it is better off just putting money in their mattress. These mass produced figures aren’t much of anything at this point.
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!
How is it that MP-44 doesn’t have an english review yet, but MP-45 has one. It’s not out till next month?
In case anyone just wants to see what the new Prime has to offer as far as transformation goes, here are the instructions.
Google Lens works great here!
Glad you didn’t spend $450 but, still too much.
And that new Bumblebee looks great! That’s how he should have been all along.
It’s gonna be expensive though. Looking like $130 MSRP for US retail. JP Retail (when I pre-ordered) was 9,198 yen (approx $86).
and I finally got my shipment notification for Prime! Should be here Thursday.
Let me know how well it cooks breakfast. For $326, it better be able to not only transform itself but, make me some awesome pancakes too.
You shouldn’t be talking Alpha.
Be careful with the knees and the knee/hip joints of the small human figures that come with it.
Some folks have had their broken according to tfw2005 forums.
Seems like every MP release has someone breaking theirs
also . . . . .
Nice!!! If only it wasn’t absurdly expensive.
So I transformed Prime twice. It’s complex. The part that is the is the most involved is the legs. It’s cool as you are doing it, but there are two parts that have to get rotated and they are small. I do think those pieces were overengineering at its finest. Beyond that though, once you do it, it’s pretty intuitive. I will say that this tops Megatron as the most difficult transformation that they have done.
Pros
- PAINT EVERYWHERE!!!
- Headsculpt is fantastic
- Articulation in on 11. I am really questioning if I need to buy the new Revoltech figure.
- Trailer has actual storage for most of the accessories. There is a compartment under the trailer that you can house everything but Starscream’s head, intake, and stand attachment. I keep the mini figures seated in roller.
- Roller and the drone have more features than trailer fodder. The drone can be re-positioned in the trailer, become a stand, or be attached to roller.
- Magnetic points for the mini figures
- G1 Animated likeness
- Amazing feat in Transformers engineering. It’s built fairly solid for the most part
Cons
- Parts of the transformation are over engineered
- Secondary knee ratchets are an issue for some
- Jansport - It’s not that noticeable in hand, but it is something that could have been mitigated if there were no electronics
- Mini figures are terrible. Takara needs to stop including them.
Overall - Is it worth $450 . . . . . that’s hard to say. Given what it has to do, it quite possibly might be. It’s been a while since a Hot Toys Iron Man figure went for under 400 (with RDJ’s face). Those have one purpose in mind, so I have to give Takara credit here. Now if you paid MSRP you had a cheaper option by just typing .jp instead of .com, I don’t know what to tell you. At the price I paid for it, I am more than happy. If I was going to give it a score, I’d say 9/10
No, no. It’s NOT worth $450. That’s always been insane. Great figure or not. Takara really trying to milk(Re: Screw) the fandom on this one.
I love TF figures as much as the next fan but, at the end of the day, it’s a fuggin’ Action figure! Christ. Unless it’s either insanely rare or, something like a sealed, popular G1 character with it’s box in immaculate shape? Then yeah those numbers might be valid. But for a modern production figure? Gawd no.
Rant aside, it does look pretty Great!
I don’t see a lego set worth $800, but there are people that are more than ok with doing so. These figures are more works of art than anything else. By no means am I saying that you’re not wrong in your position, but it’s value vs. worth. This figure is a whole step up in terms of quality. There’s a market for these kind of high end collectibles. If a Hot Toys Iron Man Mark 85 can command almost $500 or the Millennium Falcon Lego set can go for $800, Takara can do the same here. I definitely think they were smart for going with their flagship character for the brand to test the waters with. If they keep making releases at this level, I’ll keep buying.
Sidenote, some extra pics I snapped
I really don’t see how people could “prefer” MP-10 over MP-44 in terms of aesthetics. By no means is it a terrible figure, but we have come a long way since then.
I guess I’m a simple person because I like the MP-10.
Yes the arms are too long. The gun is too small. The articulation is less. While I haven’t seen the full transformation sequence for MP44, it has been described as insane with exploding panels. Some people say that it makes MP 10 look like a really good CHUG toy and perhaps they are right.
I like the looks of this guy,Sideswipe,Wheeljack, and Bluestreak the most. Even though I don’t really collect MP ,in my mind the line should be a hybrid of cartoon and toy with lots of detail. To me that makes the high price worth it (or at least differentiates it from mainline )
They will probably repaint the new guy to infinity and beyond in the next few years and I’m 99 percent sure Hasbro will do a cheaper US version since it’s the flagship character and his alt mode is street legal unlike Meg’s.
I hope the knee problem is not widespread otherwise they would have to change the tagline to “Osteoarthritis in disguise”
Ok.
Oh and ummm, you didn’t throw that wonderful $350 box away, did you?
First off the box isn’t worth $350
G1 MP Prime is the only character that I don’t throw away the box.
I do own MP-01, that box is on top of my detolf, with the figure inside.
Stop motion of MP-44
Neither is the figure
The engineering is pretty impressive at least. Maybe the reason he costs so much is, they’re making the fans recoup their bill for the R & D expenses.
. . . . .to you
Hopefully a Shattered Glass proper gets done using this mold. I skipped the last one since it was an extremely lazy repaint. It didn’t even have the tampographs done right. Given how this figure transforms, they can do it proper.
Looking at my MP-10B and I am seriously considering offloading it.
Get out the popcorn and chillax
