Transformers 3

Give them a break. Some people don’t want their childhood dreams of TV episodes and “good storytelling” like Hoist Goes to Hollywood, The Girl Who Loves Powerglide, Sea Change, and breakdancing Soundwave/Blaster battles than Michael Bay’s interpretation of Transformers. G1 had some epic storylines, yo.

At the end of the day there was more bandwagon hate on both movies than legit hate. I can get behind some of the legit hate but i enjoyed both movies (the 2nd more so than the 1st).

Reality is movies are more about entertainment than storytelling. Books always provide better storytelling.

P.S I hate the whole " it ruined my childhood argument." Really a movie ruined your entire childhood of 18 years? (Obviously I know there are some exaggeration to it, but still it just annoys me).

no the second was absolutely fucking terrible. Racist robots, robo-testicles bigger than Specs’, and a plotline that made ZERO sense (ie the All Spark revived Megatron, Jetfire, yet they had to go on a fucking adventure to revive Optimus…)

this dude puts it better than I ever could

The racist robots while annoying didn’t mess the movie up for me same for the robo testicles. As for the all spark debate, umm wasn’t the only reason why Megatron was revived was because of the all spark PLUS the cannibalized parts of the decepticon that was torn apart underwater? Plus Jetfire was in a state of hibernation which is why the spark revived him. Either way, that whole trip was there just to obtain the matrix of leadership. If anything I think the movie could’ve cleared some of that up instead of us as the viewers having to do that.

the matrix of leadership…LOL right

yea, i’d just run with the “When I go to see a movie titled “Transformers” then I expect the movie to be about the fucking transformers…not some shitty epileptic male teen/college fool living in a world full of doofus comic reliefs that are FORCED on screen at least every other scene”

Except that’s not what I’m talking about. At all. I’m talking about how Michael Bay couldn’t make a good movie to save his life, but it doesn’t matter because people say dumb shit like “lol I’m just going to a movie to be entertained” as though a well-written movie wouldn’t also have been entertaining.

See also: George Lucas, M. Night Shyamalan, Hideako Anno.

A Transformers movie written and directed by, say, someone with talent (i.e., anyone who’s not Michael Bay, but let’s actually name some good writer/director/filmmakers: Tarantino, Blomkamp, Nolan) might be wildly different from G1 (which I honestly don’t give a shit about) but it would be, at worst, thoughtful.

Yes, action movies CAN be good. See: District 9, A-Team, Sahara, Bourne, Casino Royale.

I nearly walked out of the first one. I should have, because at the end people cheered. Which makes me weep for the state of movies. I didn’t watch the second one because I don’t like throwing away my money; once bitten and what not.

Dr. B doesn’t laugh at shitty lines like “this is better than Armageddon.”

The idea that you nearly walked out of the first one because people cheered makes you come off as snobby movie buff. If people cheered it obviously means they enjoyed it and i certainly don’t see how that makes you weep at the state of movies.

I was speaking English, so how did you get “you nearly walked out because people cheered” from “I nearly walked out, didn’t, then decided I should have because people cheered?”

Anywho, “snobby” has nothing to do with it. When people enjoy garbage, and give money to see garbage, studio higher-ups decide the best way to make money is to make garbage. It isn’t me being “snobby”; it’s me wondering how a movie with almost no redeeming qualities managed to get so much praise, when films with far more redeeming qualities do poorly (or outright bomb) in comparison. Transformers is like the Sonic CD of the film industry; trash, but people love it anyway and damned if anyone can actually explain why.

Dr. B : Michael Bay :: Megatron : Draco Malfoy

You do realize a good reason why the movie does well is because of the name brand. Its the same reason why Dragonball Evolution somehow managed to do well and god knows that was a pretty bad movie. At the end of the day its a given that people are gonna flock to big name movies that has some appeal to it.

I was cool with your posts until I read this.

Now I will have to abandon the religion of Dr. B. Forever.

And The Rock and Bad Boys! I’m waiting for Bay to quit TF so he can go back to what he’s at least decent at (eg. nothing related to sci-fi or epic history).

And maybe Bad Robot/Abrams can pick up TF4, since they’ve done sci-fi action and giant scale ‘monsters’ better than anything Bay could dream of.

Kusanagi: you’re not going to win an argument with specs on filmmaking/screenwriting (as much as I tire of his incessant Bay bashing). There’s no sense in trying.

But I will say this. Michael Bay is not without his talents. He clearly knows what he’s doing from a technical/visual standpoint. He’s coordinated some of the best action sequences in film. In my opinion, his main weakness as a director is stepping outside of his speciality, giving the already flawed writing teams of his movies plot suggestions, introducing new characters, etc. If he didn’t undermine the writers as much as he does, his reputation as a director might not be nearly as tainted as it is now.

I do appreciate Bay for what he’s good at, but I don’t think he’s the ideal director for this franchise…and I never did. JJ Abrams would’ve been the better choice.

after Bay showed some people scenes from the movie, MANY good reviews are being written (and the film ain’t even close to being complete). AICN is saying it’s the best of the series, and a damn good film all around.

Shoot I cant wait…peeps had me going with that Rodimus talk…lol. I was getting txts like crazy yo Rodimus, Rodimus is in the 2rd film you see the teaser you see the teaser?

I saw the trailer and was like way to play me out fam that is none other than Alpha Trion. Look @ the age in the face. Its cool i just wanted to know what car hot rod would be in these films and that would be the next car i brought…lol.

Oh Yes, Michael Bay Rapin Er’ body out here . . . . . . :bluu:

Thank You Taito for bringing up The Rock and Bad Boys, which were both Bay films. The writing is what destroyed the last movie more than anything. I think with another year, ROTF could have been so much more. Now, since there is not a looming strike in the distance, more time is being devoted to the actual writing instead of eye-candy, I can’t wait!

In all honesty, if there is a reboot, hire Don Figueroa to design the more realistic approach:

A really nice example

Transformers Ongoing G1 Issue 1 Cover Art

I don’t understand why people are getting so offended over this. It’s motherfucking Transformers, you know, that franchise that was founded on selling children pieces of configurable plastic. This isn’t some evil cabal planning on rewriting the Bible or Qur’an, it’s a movie studio that’s taking a 1980’s children’s cartoon and loosely translating it to the big screen nearly 30 years later. Some of you guys are acting like G1 was the greatest literary work of the last century and how dare Michael Bay try to infuse new elements into it.

I’m 26. I watched the cartoons, read the Marvel comics, and played with the toys growing up as a kid. I honestly don’t see what the big deal is over Bay’s Transformers. The source material wasn’t that deep to begin, so I don’t see why people are disappointed with where the franchise is.

^ The A-Team movie isn’t that deep either, but it manages to be, as MovieBob puts it, the kind of movie Bay would make if Bay knew what the fuck he was doing.

Anno is a ghetto Chris Nolan. Nolan knows how to properly use ambiguity. Anno uses ambiguity the same way an undaipered baby uses urine to decorate a room.

Yes I do realize this. … And?

Not even Michael Bay could fuck up a Dr. B movie, though boy he’d sure try.

The source material is actually pretty deep.

“I thought the TF movies kinda sucked, they coulda did this and that better”

“OH WTF DID U WANT, A FILM PRESERVED BY THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS?”
