It’s time for Ibuki to be in winners top 8 spotlight. Hopefully this doesn’t nerf Ibuki into the ground on a grand finals win LOL. Always said Xian should pick up Ibuki and he finally did.
I think you mean he and there’s already quite a few other Japanese Ibukis that have the potential to win a major any ways. If it wasn’t Xian it was going to be Narikun, Majorboy, Acqua or Yukadon. The time was coming no matter what.
Props to Ibukis buffs and Xian taking the first real CPT major of the season. Always knew she was slept on from Season 1 and the buffs give her the extra momentum she needed. Luckily she’s too technical for the average player to use so we can be still be cool Ibuki people.
Those ibuki players you mentioned abuse the online environment, xian plays a safe Ibuki with a lot of ex kunai and safe setups which is the viable ibuki way i supported since the start, even if not as succesful online as those other ibukis specially majorboy who uses b.mp>dash as if it was an unblockable.
Majorboy would eventually learn to adopt things to offline. In Season 1 he jumped a lot and learned to play more grounded over time.
Yukadon was already one of the best Nash players offline, so it wouldn’t take much time for him to adopt an offline Ibuki. His Ibuki is pretty honest as well
I feel like xians ibuki was more so due to a lot of top players not being familiar with the match up, like having a hard time with air ex kunai. The only prominent ibuki I can think of in Japan at the moment is major boy who plays a lot crazier. Xian and major boy I feel like are on two opposite ends of the spectrum with how they play.
So now that the hype is over it is time to analyze what Xian is doing with Ibuki that we arent:
That j.mp after the modified Sako vtrigger setup. Instead of cancelling into bomb he uses that as a chance for a mixup that no one knew how to block while saving the 2nd bomb
cr.mk, vtrigger, cr.mp, sf.hk, command dash, using the bomb smoke for a mixup. Not very good imo but everyone fell for it.
that corner setup that uses all the kunais and fakes a jump crossup. Godlike find imo.
He ALWAYS goes for the sako setup. No usage of the phantom mixup.
s.LP, s.MP, cr.LK as a frame trap instead of the target combo, 300% more that all the other ibukis
s.HK as a neutral game footsie normal, and confirming it into regular dash, s.mk, s.mp. (Godlike reactions)
confirming the s.lp target combo into HK Kazekiri instead of Raida L most of the times; interesting as well
not cancelling too much into regular kunai after blocked normals
Not using b.mp > command dash as that other Ibuki famous online player.
I just had a general question regarding Ibuki I hope could be answered here.
I’m aware that Ibuki’s strongest asset has been her mix-up potential, making for a large number of guessing games when playing at higher levels. But if you’re playing someone that can either identify the mix-up or just guess correctly more than guess incorrectly, what does she have to fall back on? Could you play footsies well with her and stick to fundamentals to still win, or does he kind of have to rely on keeping her opponent guessing?
Honestly when i play ibuki, I don’t really use v trigger that much, as I prefer to use v reversals. Her normals are fine to play footsies with. I’ve also been utilizing st. hk in a similar manner to xian and i prefer doing hk. kazekiri cause I think damage is better most of the time. a lot of people know what not to do if they get touched by raida now.
I’m not really fond of using hk dp as a combo ender tbh, if I have to choose between damage and ending a combo in raida I always go for the raida oki,but that’s just me,also he always go for the hk command dash kunai ex kunai combo after the 1st bomb instead of just doing lk command dash ex kunai.I think that that’s actually just bad optimization from Xian because he isn’t consistent yet with the lk command dash variation.
Other than that I saw him playing pretty solid, spacing and footsies on point,as always.
It seemed like Xian kept the same timing every time with the air TC after ex kunai. When he wanted to cross up, he used LK Kasumi gate instead of always using forward dash.
