"Train harder!" - Ibuki Street Fighter V Discussion

Finally, an actual release date.

Release the Ibuki army!!

Dammit gotta wait til last 3 days of my vacation to play Bukers

Im grinding hard. Kunoichis will be out at Evo.

Bukers Bookers Booki

Playing Ibuki in 3s made me realize thatā€™s the only game where i play mid tiers.

Iā€™m kind of a tier whore in other games

Iā€™m the reverse here. Ibuki in 3S is one of the highest tier characters Iā€™ve ever played. I rarely break mid-tier, let alone dead center of the tier list like Ibuki.

Iā€™m guessing SFV may well be the game where that theme breaks, because I canā€™t imagine her placing too far below the other top characters right now.

Iā€™m also super happy another character is releasing at the same time as Ibuki. I was not looking forward to endless mirror matches, so thatā€™s a welcome wrench in what will inevitably be an absurd amount of ninjas. Of course Ibuki could become very under represented yet again, as she usually does, regardless of her potential. Weā€™ll seeā€¦

Damn so glad sheā€™s legal for EVO. Sheā€™ll probably get trashed since we dont have time to properly know how to use her, but its nice to have some variety finally

One thing I noticed about SF3 and seeing some SF4 results (as I didnā€™t play that game) is that Ibuki never really makes it far in tournaments. Idk why.

Even in USF4 where sheā€™s top 10 I donā€™t see any high ranking Ibukiā€™s other than Sako.

Because sheā€™s a very difficult character to use. Then again we also have to consider whoā€™s using her. Top players seem to do very well with her, but I honestly think itā€™s a combination of match-up knowledge, and umā€¦ Her play style in general. I canā€™t explain why sheā€™s so good in second impact, because I never played the game to judge that, but itā€™s probably because of her options and damage in general, that made her so good.

Itā€™s very hard for me to explain in general (please feel free to add or correct, but itā€™s my opinion). Maybe not enough players put enough time to explore her because sheā€™s not popular at high levels, or thereā€™s nothing about her that could be exploited consistently that doesnā€™t rely on mix-ups and set-ups all the time. Also, she has bad match-ups; usually against characters that out footsie her, or have tanky health + really high damage output.

TLDR; Or maybe sheā€™s a dishonest fighter. Idk.

Sheā€™s just high maintenance and always ends up with a large moves list and target combos you have to memorize before using her. In pretty much all of her games she was never really a character where you could just learn 2 or 3 of her normals, learn a hit confirm into special or super and youā€™ve suddenly got her down. In 3S you had to know how to tiger knee SA1, learn her character specific close s.HK target combo resets and character specific tsumuji combos on crouching characters that varied depending on their hurt box.

SFIV was pretty self explanatory. Had to SJC to combo her most useful ultra, had one frame links that extended her combo game pretty nicely, had just as many or more target combos than she did in 3S and her footsie game was rather stiff and not as straight forward as other characters. She was a convoluted character in a SF game thatā€™s now infamous for being nearly the most complicated as far as tech memorization (Alpha 3 is probably the only SF game that has a more tech heavy base engine). You were playing a tough to use character in a game that forces you to do a lot of book work to play it to begin with. Can just play characters that get you farther once you learn the gameā€™s book work rather than having to also book work heavy with the character.

Although SFV is easier to play for now, SF in general is still tough to be good at because it requires a lot of spacial and player tendency awareness. Ibuki is going to be one of the few characters with many specials and variations to her specials which will be off putting to the majority of the basic level player base. She will again be a character perfect for character specialists, but not as great for people who just want a pocket character. Her V Trigger and charged kunais look like they have a lot of potential for setups and zoning that the average player just isnā€™t going to bother with.

Just rewatched Ibukiā€™s trailer, and it is still the most hype trailer released so far. Canā€™t wait for Ibuki.

Whelp, to further go off of Deviljinā€™s postā€¦

In new generation, which I donā€™t know the tier list for because no one really played it competitively for more than a minute. Anyway, she didnā€™t gain some of her most useful tools until second impact, but in new generation she had a very easy infinite ā€“ basically an oversight, and her cl.HK launcher for whatever reason had the 1st hit reset the juggle counter to zero rather than adding or just not even having a juggle point. Launcher, walk forward, launcher, rinse repeat. So uh, yeah, massive oversight.

In Second Impact she had a lot of her better tools and gained more powerful target combos and normals to be utilized. She had a low short, low strong target combo, back when her low strong was a very stubby normal with deceptively far range and an absurd level of hit stun. You could link after it with a lot of stuff to make extended combos, but more importantly, you could just confirm into her SAIII ā€“ the move which more or less solidified her as the best character in the game. In 2I she was basically a better 3S Ken with better hit confirms, and a ridiculously strong super that had stupid start-up, went near full screen, launched the opponent allowing for a complete mix-up opportunity, and could be linked into off of nearly any hit, even her friggen forward roundhouse, which we all know is a beastly poke ā€“ could go right into it.

Basically, she could just do thisā€¦

And yes, Gouki was one of the stronger characters in 2I, but he also suffers from low stun. Even without that, she could get 90% stun on most characters into a reset. Makoto-Ken-Chun-Li, 2I Ibuki was the ultimate hybrid. On top of that, it was before red parries, which just made Tsumuji infinitely weaker as a block string tool.

In 3S, she was a relatively easy character to play as in lower levels, but was exceptionally hard to use at higher levels. The fact she could bypass the whole concept of hit-confirming in lower to mid levels of play meant she was a really good pub stomper. Stronger players very quickly make her show her tier however. I love when the gimmicks stop working man, but it also so easy to lay out bad players with Ibuki without even looking at the screen, you could just put them into relaunchers and be done with it. Rarely did that unless I was annoyed with how they were playing or werenā€™t learning ā€“ I generally always tried to teach players who were worse than me by playing a certain way. When thereā€™s too much of a skill gap, a player isnā€™t going to learn how to deal with a gimmick, they are just going to get beat up by it, doing it over and over isnā€™t helpful to their development. Anyway, Iā€™m ramblingā€¦

I expect her to be more widely used this time. She has less special moves, much less built in tech to learn, way less target combo variations and the ones that do exist are one and done, without multiple endings. She still looks more complex for an SFV character, but nothing too daunting. I think sheā€™ll be used more. By pro players though, not sure about that. She wonā€™t be better than a fundamental shoto, I donā€™t think, so no Ryu mains are going to be jumping ship, but I think (sadly) that some Mika players might make the jump and maybe some Laura and Cammy players.

She looks like she can still play gimmicks while having a very solid fundamental game, so very 3S.

I feel like dishonesty, gimmicks and speed rule online but often what really rules the tournaments is strong fundamentals and lame/patient play.

Changing the subject a little bitā€¦ So, how are we going to organize things this time around and who will make the threads? Bonus points if the OP sticks around long enough to edit the post with new tech.

Yo weā€™re finally character section worthy, what a time to be alive.

Iā€™m not sure if I want to be hosting some of the classic threads like Tech, Combos, Q/A, and other such stuff. I think Iā€™ll likely snag one or two, but I probably donā€™t have the time to keep up with more than that. Especially around the update because hey, letā€™s release her right before 4th of July weekend. Going to have to screw up my sleep just to play her.

ā€“

Regardless of who hosts what, and while it is actually very contradictory to my whole ā€œindividualityā€ approach to characters, we really should be as super tight of a character group as we can be. Share all the tech, all the knowledge, and so on and so forth. All for one and one for all, and all that hullabaloo. No holding out ā€“ so help me if I see tech Iā€™ve never seen before in a tourney from one of youā€¦!

If I am going to host one of the threads, itā€™ll likely be the combo thread, as I have experience with move tinkering and being more specific about the actual properties of moves and such. So perhaps a sort of move list / combo list explanation thread more than anything. Hard to start any thread without the character first though, so I may placeholder it in the coming days or something, or just make it when Iā€™ve had like 4-5 hours with the character. I know Iā€™m going to be making a lot of notes, and as I said before, I may stream my first 4 hours or so.

WSO should be starting in an hour. Theyā€™ll be showing off Boxer and I assume this build will also have Ibuki (who F Word and Damascus both used in IV)

Can we please not have a million different threads for every single matchup like other wasteland character forums. Actually DevilJin can you just go ahead and make the Video, Combo, and matchup/strategy threads since you will probably be the only one reliable/active enough to maintain them

Yeah Iā€™ll be on it. Whoever thought that million threads for every matchup thing was a good idea is crazy. The only reason that was asked for is because people are terrible at managing threads and donā€™t update content in the first post/s.

Just gonna get one of the basic threads and yeah Iā€™ll be around to keep them updated. Plus Iā€™ll have my google doc for people to reference also.

Well the Urien thread is already ruined lol

Yeah, despite I think one hiccup, weā€™ve been one of the more constructive or at least focused character threads.

Juri thread is somehow 45+ pages already and 90% of it is breasts and outfits. Meanwhile the great diaper debate rages on in the Urien thread.

Pretty happy with our small but focused ninja clan.

well truth be told, ibuki has neither tits nor ass. only colgate Kappa

I wish they did something not unbeliveably boring and unispired for her V-Skill.
