Tougeki Lineup 2010

Toche sir.

Considering that mentioning it on dustloop will get you instantly banned, I somewhat doubt that a side tournament of a crack will be hype either…

I see what you did there…

Didn’t see this translated yet, but it’s rather important:

Regional Qualifier Tournaments
May-July 2010
Arcades all throughout Japan
as well as conventions held in countries all over the world

Nationwide Deciding Tournament
[Tougeki '10 Final]
Will be held September 2010 in a metropolitan area.

This year’s Tougeki will be vastly restructured.
In order to satisfy the largest number of players,
There will be a second stage established in addition to the main stage for a “festival” format.
The held titles will be divided into two categories: A and B.

What this means is that they will be holding “Category B” games on a side stage at the same time that “Category A” games take place. While is hasn’t been officially announced, it looks like they are planning on SBO being only two days instead of three this year. This makes sense, as there is only one national holiday for Japan in September and it’s on a Monday.

As Orka said, there’s also no doubt that Capcom was a key sponsor for SBO this year. After SBO wasn’t announced on schedule this year, a lot of people suspected that they were scaling down. On 2 Chan, a lot of Japanese are complaining about Basara X and having three Street Fighter games. Fact is, though, SBO dictates what is played competitively for Japan. Some arcades will put Basara X back in, and it’ll get some more burn.

The other point of speculation is that Category B games will probably be given a smaller stage with less focus. It looks like they will be holding 3 “Category A” games and 2 “Category B” games per day for two days. That means that Category B games will probably just go on until a winner is determined, and may not be given as much focus (maybe just grand finals?).

Very interesting to see the reveals for Evo and Tougeki on the same night; it’s clear that politics determine a lot in each country (Capcom sponsorship, etc.) but I still look forward to both events.

Wow… September. That changes some shit up for Americans that were trying to go over there again this year. Oh well, plans change…

Yeah, the September date was confirmed by Arcadia last month after mentioning that the announcement didn’t happen in the New Year’s Arcadia magazine like it usually does. That’s why there was so much speculation that the event would be scaled down (it won’t be summer vacation for Japan, either).

I might actually be living in Austin by September. There was a 50/50 chance of me moving there after I came back from Japan in August, but now it looks like I might have to move to Austin before going to Japan. Hrmmmm…

Hmmm no offense but what happened to CFJ after it was on SBO?

Yeah dude. You said ‘after’. That means people only played it when it was announced and quit right afterwards. Obviously they’ll fucking drop a shitty game right after SBO. I guess I should have added that.

So a bunch of Capcom games due to Capcom sponsorship… I thought Capcom had given up on arcades, why would they support SBO…

Guess we know when an SSF4 arcade release will be confirmed then.

this is totally unexpected
btw, thanx for the list Henaki

Huh! I wondered why they split the games into A and B groups.

EDIT: Oops read it wrong lol, thought for a second they were gonna run both versions of SFIV haha… And what the fuck is this Basara shit?

Can someone fill me in on just what Type-Moon/French-bread did to piss off SBO directors so much? I’m actually quite curious, because this is the second snub in a row. MBAA is still the number 3-4 game played in the country…

It seems odd that Capcom would sponsor this event and still be using the arcade version of vanilla SF4.That game is basically dead to people now, I stopped playing after the alpha characters were announced.I really hope Capcom gets that arcade version going because SBO is gonna be very dead for SF4 otherwise.

Should be amazing for 3rd strike though.I’ve been seeing alot of new talent, with alot of character variation in the recent ranking battles. Also ST should be good.

Looking forward to entering quals for Guilty Gear here in Japan again!

I wonder if the number of quals will be reduced and the system for the quals will be altered for the B catagory games? 2 Years ago there were like 3 or 4 prelims in each block for GG and then last year it was reduced to only like 2 prelims and the grand finals, where as the newer games were more similar to how things were for GG 2 years ago. If I remember correctly, last year the quals started in April, so the fact that they are reducing the time frame probably also means less qual tournaments in general.

Also, sorry if I missed it somewhere but did it state the size of the brackets? Will they still have 32 teams qualifying even though there were rumors of it being “dumbed down” and appearing to have less qual time?

Also sucks about Melty over SBX

Thanks for clearing this up. Bas was trying to explain it to me but I didn’t get it

ST is back? BAD ASS!!!

KOF 2002UM fuck yeah!

ST
SF4
3S

all teams?!!?
be still my heart

Awesome line-up, GG is back hell yeah. 2k2UM is in hell yeah. 3S is back…, meh, not gonna see anything new. SFIV is back but wouldn’t be if it wasn’t for Bribecom, same with SBX, game is garbage. TvC shouldn’t be back game is fun but broken competitively.

Well in Japan females have actually qualified for SBO and in some cases gotten to the finals (for GG at least).
