Thought about using one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Targus-PAUK10U-Ultra-Mini-Keypad/dp/B00008NG7N with a tiny laptop keyboard?
Hmmmnn. Any keyboard players want to try to attempt doing Geese Howard’s Raging Storm? Its a pretzel motion.
I know of an exceptional amount of Keyboard Players on GFWL and while a large majority of people would struggle with it, you’d be suprised how there are several extremely competant players who use it (and, unlike me, play very well as QCF characters - I’m a Balrog Player, so the Charge vs QCF vs 360 thing each take getting used to but I’m not in the least bit shocked to see people adapting to Keyboard and preferring to stick with it rather than buy a stick/pad).
I used to think it was a major handicap but I’ve grown so used to it that if you gave me a Pad I’d tell you to take it back.
I’m not a great player, just an everyday casual bloke who plays online the odd few hours a week/month, mostly, so thats more of a limitation to my skillcap than my choice of controller is, handsdown.
It may be easy for me to say it as a Boxer but do I look like I’m playing on Keyboard?

(Note: This isn’t me saying I think I’m any good - I’m not - Though people often seem suprised when I say I’m on Keyboard, or claim they notice a difference in playstyle - I really can’t see it, myself).
What was that tourny recently where a Pad-ChunLi took 2nd place and suprised everyone? Keyboard may be a bit behind Pad, but surely not by miles - Everyone has their preferences but I don’t think they’re denying that Stick is the No.1 controller, either - No need to be insulting
I’d be curious to know what character you play as, OP!?
Back on topic, the folks over on our side did suggest creating one for me before - I’m entirely certain it’s possible and that it shouldn’t be too difficult nor too costly (in comparison to whatever the typical costs is for building controllers).
I hooked up my Cthulhu to my Casio electronic keyboard and played some Ludwig Van Beethoven. Needless to say I perfected everyone.
Oh, I was playing as Dan. Obviously.
Dash to Ultra for Charge Characters can be done on Joystick also.
You Edit your Post.
Just tried some keyboard playing. Quite amazed at what I was able to pull off XD. I could actually pull off the Raging Storm on SVC more consistently on the keyboard than the stick, though on player 2 side. On P2 side, using WASD, press SD, dribble A-S-D, AS + punch. It’s a little harder to dribble D-S-A for P1, but I’m sure will be no problem with practice. Most SNK style DMs are quite manageable on the keyboard. I might just build a keyboard stick on a side.
Peace of cake.
I don’t see why is it so hard to press A-S-D/D-S-A fast. Just like with a stick, it’s all about practice.
Ummm a charge/sonic boom motion is not at all difficult to do on a stick thats worth a crap, and assuming the player has at least moderate skill.
And if a player sucks that bad that they can’t learn to consistantly do charges on stick, no matter how much practice, they no way in hell are they going to be able to play using keys-only in a fighter. Which would be a feat that even the highest skilled players would find daunting(and stupid, why bother?).
For that one tad advantage you mention, its at the sacrifice of everything else being hard as crap to perform. Double 360’s on a keyboard anyone?

keyboard_master = TKO, one of the best Jedah’s out there.
My friends like keyboard especially for melty blood cause thats what they learned on. My one friend actually created a “Keyboard Stick” for him to use on PS2. You will notice that the only sanwa buttons are the start and selects

Hella Awesome Idea, that’s my next Stick right there.
it’s the best of both worlds and would alleviate the clutter and ugly factors of a keyboard.
I’m actually going to make a custom keyboard stick for my wife. She learned SF by playing SFII on an emulator. Any custom stick builders wanna help me out with the panel?
Make a keyboard “stick” with these Sanwa OBSF-24KK buttons:

@koz, that’s a pretty good thing, how did he connect the keys?
@fokku how do those sanwa feel? is the resistance similar to a keyboard?
the idea of a stick with no “stick” is pretty cool i think
They use the same micro switches as Sanwa’s other buttons so I’d imagine they would feel the same as those but with a square shape.
Sanwa buttons are very sensitive and don’t require much force to activate. You can also try these micro switches in the buttons if you require them to be more stiff and more clicky.
Doing a 360 or 720 motion on a keyboard becomes much easier if you change from WASD to ASDF.
Keyboard players can play at a high level. There’s tons of them online, especially in Korea and Japan.
If I were to build joykey or keystick or whatever I’d certainly use those Sanwa buttons fokkusuhaundo showed. They are smaller than standard buttons. I think they are actually used for Mahjong cabinets or something like it.
This blows my mind that people play with a keyboard, AND are actually good at it. I keep thinking that all that mashing will eventually pop out a few keys here and there. Also, carpal tunnel.
