It has to do with competition, not the sticks. People adapt to their environment if they stick around long enough, hence how a lot of people at Orbit can still play although the sticks are terrible…
And btw, look at soccer. Euros and South Americans grow up playing with beat down soccer balls on dusty playgrounds, and they still beat the living shit out of the Americans, despite their vastly superior conditions. It has to do with competition, not the stick. A good player doing well on shitty sticks doesn`t make the stick any less garbage.
