Marvin 3s help:

How do you practice Ken’s down medium punch into super as a hit confirm?
Any tips on how to hit confirm 100%?

Hey jD, Marvin played quake 1 tooo!

GG to everyone I played. Screw skybox. I should make monthly trips to Orbit instead of weekly trips to Skybox. See you all in a few weeks…maybe

-If you bet money on me, please do not let me know. I have a tendency to play shittier when money is on the line
-Tekken 5 RK is broken

Marvin how do you play the matchup Ryu vs. Yun?

to practice ken’s low MP hit confirm into SA3, set your training dummy on standing and on random block. Hit him with the low MP and let go of the mp right away. Then do a qcf motion. If it hits, do another qcf motion and push all three kick buttons. If you push all 3 kick buttons, you get 6 inputs for the super to come out due to negative edge(3 for pushing, 3 for letting go).

Negative edge is when you do a special or super by releasing the button instead of actually pushing it. If you were to hold MP and then let go, you don’t get two MP’s. You just get the mp for when you push it. However, this doesn’t apply for supers or specials. If you do hold MP, do a qcf motion, and then let go of mp at the time you’d normally press it, you will get a medium level fireball. So negative edge helps hit confirming by executing the super as soon as possible do to all the inputs.

Do not practice hit confirms on crouching opponents. Crouching opponents, in 3rd Strike, experience the following:

  1. longer hit stun
  2. receiving more damage
  3. a change in their hitbox width
  4. a change in hitbox stance and animation, thus different “breathing” types of hitboxes are available in addition to their standing ones (Only those who saw my video would understand this)
  5. I don’t remember…there probably is a #5.

Since we’re talking about hit confirm, we’ll focus on #1. The increase in hit stun. When an opponent is crouching, they take longer to recover from hit stun and thererfore it gives more time to confirm supers and gives the opportunity to do different combos.

So if you were to do a cr MP on a crouching opponent and hit confirm it into SA3 consistantly, it doesn’t mean you would be able to hit confirm it and combo on a standing opponent with the same timing. But if you were to practice hit confirm on a standing opponent, you will always get it on a crouching opponent. Remember that you’re trying to link it into he super and not cancelling it. Ken’s c.MP is not like his c.MK. They are both early cancellable but the MP isnt late-cancellable; you can only cancel it in the beginning.

Another useful hit confirm to practice with Ken is his standing strong link into the super. It’s useful because it gives Ken a fast and distanced attack that is confirmable into his super. So Ken has the low MK, and the stand MP; one high attack and one low attack. This confirm works both on standing and crouching opponents but again, it’s easier to confirm it on a crouching one so practice on a standing opponent. Take note that this is a link; the move can not be cancelled unlike Ryu and Akuma’s far s.MPs.

On the topic of hit-stun when crouching, you’re probably wondering “so what if it gives you a little bit more hit stun? It doesn’t make that much of a difference, does it?”. Some combos in the game just wont work unless the opponent is crouching or unless they are standing and get hit into stun and it can really make a difference; when you stun an opponent, they are put into the same hit-stun as if they were crouching. Or maybe when you hit them when you’re crouching, they are put into the same hit-stun as if they were hit-into-stun.

-Dudley’s f+rh link into stuper only works on a crouching opponent or if the f+rh stuns a standing opponent
-Dudley’s s.rh xx ducking xx upper
-Ryu’s close FP xx RH sweet chin music (yes. That combos, Ian. I know you’re gonna love this one)
-Chun Li’s far s.rh and towards + s.rh -> SA2

these are only a few examples of combos that will only combo when you get put into greater hit stun

X Sapphire: I made a long post about Ryu vs Yun but it got deleted and I really don’t want to type it again. Go to Mopreme’s gay live journal. It’s got a great Ken vs Yun matchup which pretty much is the same as Ryu vs Ken. I don’t agree with some things Mopreme has to say but it’s not to say that his style is not effective

Mark’s Gay Live Journal: http://www.livejournal.com/users/mopreme/

B4K4: My Oro is not very good. But from what I noticed, it’s hard to get your opponent you get hit by the s.MP launcher. He pretty much needs to do something stupid in order to get hit by it. From my experience, here are the ways to get the s.mp launcher to hit

-parry, s.mp
-empty (double)jump, chicken feet when he’s really low to a ground (bait a whiff throw)

And his SA2 is not useless in the corner. It pretty much is an aegis reflector except it even blocks you from seeing what Oro’s doing. If you hit him while he’s trying to block the ball, you can launch. If you can’t hit him with enough time left to launch, you might hit him with a f+FP (a high damaging 2-hit overhead).

edit: i’m pretty fucken good at Quake 1. Only CTF and TWCTF though.

Stupid SRK losing my desperate question to improve my 3S game…

How can I improve my Ibuki game without copping out and just picking Ken or Chun Li instead?

Throw a bunch of insults in there if you’d like.

PS. Hopefully there’s some comp at Orbit today.
