Shoot em up was meh…but it’s not really supposed to be a serious movie or anything. I wanna watch Rambo tho…that shit looks epic.
I know its not supposed to be serious, but that doesn’t mean it has to be dumb. Usually parodies have clever scenes and dialogue that point out the faults and cliches of a particular genre, but Shoot em Up was just dumb. It basically just points out “hey we’re making fun of this John Woo stuff!” and stops there. It doesn’t make much of an effort to develop any character but only throws out trivial “quirks” in place.

Rocky 6 was very dissapointing but Rambo 4 delivers! It has the same effect on your testosterone level as 300 did (you’d probably end up killing a bunch of Burmese people on the way out of the theater). It’s ultraviolent and unrelenting but it doesn’t get bogged down in action movie cliche or throwaway scenes like the previous 2 installments. The bodycount is around 250 or something but there’s actual weight in every death scene and you’ll feel it (doing the math, it will probably end up to 2.5 deaths/per minute).

I think it’s still fairly accurate for the most part and better than imdb ratings.
The point is awesome over-the-top action for awesome over-the-top action. It’s not a straight-up parody.
