Toronto February Thread 2004

anyone know if there is a arcade at scarborough centre? my friend wanted me to ask… he said there was one but last we checked, the only arcade we saw was the one at the movie house

There was. Not anymore.

Edit: Oh, and Crow… personally, with your team, I would start Sentinel against everyone except Cable. If you really want to improve, watch some vids of Clockwork’s games and try to model your play after him.

Anyone play at Sheridan mall, the arcade across the street from Sheridan Mall, Yorkdale, or Woodbine? Those arcades owned.

All right , thanks. Why not against cable? I’m afraid to use sent against anyones mags because I can’t counter his speed. Maybe you can teach me some sent and mag stuff some time. Yeah, I’ll try watching his vids, got quite a few of them but havent really watched them. Thanks for the help. Btw, were you able to beat that guy’s magneto? It was last time I saw you and you guys just kept going at it. Not sure if you left then came back later.

Haha… I played at Yorkdale’s Wizard’s Castle, Sheridan’s World Cup and Renna’s all the time. I grew up and went to school in those areas.

Killer Instinct was too good back then.

$2 tuesday movies at Sheridan were top-tier.

Cable is the worst matchup for Sent. You CAN play Sent vs Cable (Clockwork does it), but that takes a lot of experience. You almost have to know everything the Cable player is gonna do in advance… because playing on reaction against Cable means you’re probably gonna get fucking shot. Strider/Doom played properly, on the other hand, is a good counter to Cable IMO.

You’ll have trouble containing Magnetos with Sent until you get a good hang of playing Sent the lag-free way. Staying on the ground and throwing out rocketpunches (the way everyone does initially) is how Sent becomes a big slow lumbering target.

I’ll show you what little I know sometime. Post when you’re planning to be at Orbit.

And that guy raping me… and beating me at MvC2… was OmniDragon.

When do you usually go? because I don’t go as often and I go on any random day, usually once a week. My friend has his reading week and might probably go there this week a lot… spanish guy with a red jacket using sent/cable/bh, can’t miss him… well especially in a chinese people filled mall… and what would be the lag-free way? I try doing his fast fly combos but still need practice so I usually stick with the simple ones. Lol, nice way to word what happened. Does he go there often?

OmniDragon IS Magneto

I go pretty randomly as well. I havent gone since you saw me playing on saturday. I might go tonite. I dont think I’ve ever played/seen your friend.

Wavedashing if you have to be on the ground, keeping Mags pinned at the other side of the screen with c.fp and/or projectile assists while flight-canceling everything, which means you can use flight to position yourself out of his attacks’ ranges and angles, fly/unfly stompdown, fly/unfly high-lows, etc. Being able to do fast-fly combos isnt nearly as important as learning to play positionally. You can beat Magnetos without landing any combos… just by keeping them contained. As long as he isnt landing anything serious on you, he’ll die eventually.

That was the second time I’ve seen OmniDragon at Orbit in 3 months.

You have to call Omnidragon by his real name.
HIs real name is Fong. He doesnt like it when you call him Omnidragon

and Fong gets really cocky so i dont talk to him.

ah damn… most likely ill try going saturday. he was with me last saturday. uumm yeah, for some reason he doesn’t want to play you. he said he’d get raped by you or fong. course i just had to try playing you again and lost 4 straight i think.

so just try zoning him? what if he manages to get through the zoning? just try to continue? wanted to ask another thing about pushblocking, when you pushblock does it leave you open for an attack? I mean like say mag starts the match with c.lk and you pushblock but he called psy before your PS, can psy hit you?

pushblocking doesnt leave you open for being attacked. But if it’s in the air, it may aid your opponent in guard breaking you.

what sentinel air combo should I be doing assuming i have no assists, and i want to make use of fastfly.

give me a combo to do both mid screen, and in the corner.

thx

Launch lp lk fly lk lk up rocket punch

corner

launch lp lk fly lk lk up RP fly throw lk lk RP

Zoning Magneto out shouldnt be a process that Magneto can get through by chance. It consistutes a MISTAKE on Sentinel’s part. I’ll explain how in person, took complicated to type out. But anyway, if Magneto gets in AND avoids your anti-air assist, then it’s really critical to not panic (It’s easier said than done… i start mashing randomly and stuff). In theory, Magneto HAS to beat you high with a triangle jump. This is because he has only 2 moves that break super armor. A jumping heavy attack and crouching roundhouse. Crouching roundhouse is rollable, so if you train yourself to roll out of it on reaction, then you escape the superjump cancel OTG and that’s one less option Mags has to start a combo. If you eat a high heavy attack, then you’re gonna get infinited to death or snapped out. So if you can force yourself to relax and block high and roll out of c.hk - and pushblock first chance you get… you can then go back to zoning patterns and you’ll be fine.

Of course this is IN THEORY. Meaning when a good Magneto gets within half-screen distance of me, I do something like throw a DP rocketpunch into an empty area of the screen.

Not to mention, everything gets more complicated when Magneto has a helpful assist, or gets you too close to a corner, or the hundred other things that I havent thought of / dont know about. But I think this stuff is a good place to start thinking and planning out how you want to play your Sent vs Mag matchups.

And no, pushblocking does not leave you open for an attack. It makes your BLOCK longer. So Psylocke gets blocked as long as you’re still holding back.

So what you’re saying is you want to get hurt…

Never ever ever pushblock while you’re in the air. You dont push your opponent away and you cant block after it ends.

Dont do a fast-fly in the corner. Be a badass and go for the unblockable reset:

(corner) any non-fast-fly air combo ending with RP, sj.hp > sj. hk (OTG) \ / timed pause, c.fp (unblockable/reset) xx RP xx HSF into whatever.

Wanna learn how to PushBlock?. Watch Advanced Tactics volume 1

hahahah g3nn = the new Geese.

I guess chun li whytry could be as well.

Fucking theory fighters who dont know what they’re talking about are the worst.
