alright, mini evo log time…
Everyone booked their flights at the last minute, so i’m flying there by myself. I leave my house and 2 minutes later I realize I didn’t pack my stick. So I go back and throw it in my carry on. Of course it gets me stopped at the security check in, but when it goes through the X-Ray machine the lady starts having a fit, jumping up and down, pointing with 2 fingers “This one, this one”. So they swab it, check it for trace amounts of chemicals or whatever, after 10 minutes of me trying to explain to them I’d fly to Las Vegas to play videogames, they let me through. Uneventful way down to Vegas, but my connecting flight got delayed about 1.5 hours. The Vegas airport has slot machines everywhere, but I’m trying to find the rest of the guys as I was suppose to land within 10 minutes of them, but I know I’m still there before the fobs. I eventually find Marvin, Joey and Pocari after circling for an hour. Marvin and Joey’s flight landed early, and the fobs flights (that’s right, they came on seperate flights) are delayed. By the time everyone got there, Marvin and Joey have been there for about 5 hours.
At least we get a shuttle to Palace Station, and we all check in. Pocari, the fobs and I go eat at the Oyster bar. I ordered the crab gumbo and i couldn’t even finish half of it, it comes in a XL size Pho Hoa bowl. Now the 3 fobs order 24 oysters, a crab roast and a lobster roast. the crab and lobster roast are the same size as my gumbo. They finish it all! That’s huge props, if they went to KBBQ, they’d be #tosf ops for sure. I think Marvin and Wing goto sleep:

I go play some $2 - $4 poker cuz they have some $2 - $4 - $8 hold em half kill game (more about that in Marvin’s log) I don’t wanna touch and no $4 - $8 omaha 
So i get a rack and sit down. First thing I notice is that people keep their chips in their racks (can’t do that at rama) and there’s only 1 blind, that’s right, big blind only. The BB is coming up on me, so I don’t post, but they deal me in anyway. You don’t have to post either. The table has a bunch of old people and internet players that are very easy to read so I almost double up and leave. Nothing really too good at Palace, except for the Star Wars slot machine. It’s a penny slot so you can play combinations of lines and bets from 1c to $3. If you get Darth Vadar and Obi Wan on the same reel, they battle and if you pick the right winner, you get from 300 - 1500 credits. If you hit 3 deathstars in a row, then you play a mini game where the giant deathstar model above the machine spins and based on the options you pick, you get a bonus. If you hit the deathstar laser you goto the next round, if you go through 3 rounds you blow up the deathstar for massive credits, I blew it up about 6 times over the trip and you can 500 - 3000 credits for hitting it. This machine is awesome, Marvin and I were crushing it (the machine must know I’m a fan) and we’re getting so excited and making so much noise (“Get em Vadar, that’s right darkside!” or “Fuck it him up Obi, Fuck him up, oh shit, Vadar fell off the fucking screen”) that people keep looking at us weird and we have to apoligize for bothering them. This machine is so good we looked for it in every casino, at Aladdin to the tech guy “what are you doing to the star wars machine?”, “where you moving it?”, “well when are you gonna be done?”. I think I slept maybe a total of 6 hours from Tues until Thurs morning when it’s off to Green Vally Ranch for Evo …

We are running late so Will is there like 3 hours before us flying in from Dallas. The worker at the counter looks like Halle Berry, so somehow with Will macking on her, she realizes that Marvin booked the room under Will’s name too. So he checked in and was chilling by the pool, good thing she wasn’t ugly or he’d have been in the lobby for a while. So we goto the room, and it’s fucking amazing. The washroom has a speaker system so you can listen to the TV while you are showering or whatever. I get into my swimsuit and before I go down to the pool I goto Marvin: “Hey dude, i can’t reach my back, can you help me put on sunscreen?” <long pause> “uh… no, that’s kinda gay… wait, was that a friendship test? Did I pass?”. “ha ha, i’m just joking, wanted to see what’d you say.” So of course I go down to the pool and do the exact same thing to Will. But he doesn’t hesitate and said he’ll do it. “I was just fucking with you”. But now I feel like an asshole! It backfire. So the waitresses wear the tightest outfits ever, pure camel toe. So I get a food menu (remember, US dollars): burger with cheese: $16, nachoes: $16, veggie sticks $10, can of beer $6, margarita $8… But the waitress is pretty good so we order nachoes and a ton of drinks. The lifeguard has the biggest cans and she has to keep walking around, clearly all the eyes at the pool are on her chest. It gets to the point, where her arms are red from her feeble attempts to cover her tits (she’d rub her arms with her arms across her chest). So I’m relaxing and this old guy starts that was beside me starts talking to me:
old guy: "Hey do you wanna play chess, do you know how to play?"
me: "uh, i dont really know how to play."
Will (whispering): "Dude, wern’t you on the chess team?"
me (whispering): “yeah i was the captain.”
a good 5 minutes pass…
old guy: "Come on, let’s play chess, just for fun."
me: "… well… ok, I’ll play a game, set it up."
old guy: "Oh, I don’t have a chess set."
me: “…” <to Will> “why the fuck would you ask someone to play chess if you don’t have a board? That’s like offering someone a ride when you don’t have a car, or asking a girl to fuck when you have no cock.”

We uh, somehow manage to register in like 10 minutes… And see Clayton again as we’re leaving: “How’d you guys register before me, I got here way before you dude!”
Some of the guys moneymatch or whatever but we head off to the strip to try and eat something, but all the buffets are frigging closed. We eventually eat and we roll in Vegas TOSF style:

So yea I get to see the pool lineup and i find myself in a pool with ppl ive never heard of, cept of course, Clayton Chapman (sp). For a while I thought it wasn’t Final showdown/Dailupsucky but too many ppl confirmed it was him. God damn.
1st match Final showdown (nice title for a 1st match)
He uses ky and I use jam. His ky looks really basic to begin with, but its tricky as fuck. If i were to compare him to ky guy, i’d say ky guy has a better throw/rush game, but FS has a better poke/punish game. He beats me bad 1st set and I’m like fuck, I can’t parry or uppercut right now (I’m pretty sure I was playing like a nervous fool) so I switched to baiken. Same problem. I couldn’t instant overhead or even fucking IAD…I think I took a round off him but what does it matter? I played like a noob and got smashed. Time to buy one of those huge hori sticks…
2nd match black Sol
This guy plays sol on pad and likes to sweep > bandit revolver alot…thats perfect for jam cuz theres enough time after blocking the sweep to parry and punish but wtf, I can’t parry…i’m getting sweeped BR over and over and lose that match…huh? Anyways, I eventually move my ass to the floor and did the best i could with that stick. I beat the guy 2-0 i believe.
3rd match another Sol
After ditching Dickson’s stick King Low Tier let me use his HUGE hori for the rest of my matches. That fucking stick is too good for words. Anyways, this guy is probably the 2nd best person i had to face in this pool. He had decent pressure and could do a small version of the dust loop. He beats my jam and like always, I go back to baiken…and no sapphire, I didn’t abuse jumping hs. I beat his sol but 1-1 and instead of sticking with sol, he picks axl…bad move. I think it was 2-0 for me
4th/5th matches sol again
I’m not sure if there was a 5th sol cuz i faced alot of sols so i dunno one of them lost all of their matches…It might have been just him.
So yea i qualified for the losers bracket…yay
semis- 1st match millia guy
So yea I face this little guy im pretty sure I saw come top 5 in the last mwc i went to… Needless to say I lost but not good lost, more like what the fuck am I doing lost. I have 0 experience with a serious millia player seeing how nobody uses her seriously in t.o. I really didn’t know what to do. I kept on putting myself into the wrong situations then ended up in the ring trap game. sigh. Thats it for me. What makes me mad is that if I actually beat the guy, I would have played another guy im 100% positive I could have beaten. Oh well, everyone in that section was destroyed by bas right after LOL.
In the end, I think t.o. is lagging behind the US, mostly because of the fact that we got #r like 3 months before evo and also the fact tha twe focus on only half of the top tiers… A funny thing to note is that Lewis is probably as good if not better than ruin/marn. when Lewis came down, he fucking raped us hard, I only won once against him ad it was by a pixel…when I faced marn/ruin (1 money match 1 casual), I was doing a whole lot better taking rounds off and all. If he went to evo, im positive he would have came top 8 for sure. Oh yeah, RF got 100X better since the last evo. He had a 30+ winstreak against all the top americans and he was using every character. Did I mention he took my game? well, I was playing dickson and when I was using faust he came by and watched. I let him play and he tore shit up. From now on, my lineup will be: faust/baiken/jam. R-FUCKING-F. I think for us to get better, we need to expand our character usage (we still have our main guys, but we’d also know how to use most of the cast as back up and experience).

Hey what’s up Canada. Um, just wanted to say ggs to the people i played at evo(3s). I don’t remember anyone’s name, i just remember Ack’s cuz it’s a cool name. I am from Austin, I was in the canadian room monday morning at like 6am using green Ken, i also played alot of yall in the actual ballroom. I see toronto likes Urien!!! Seriously though, ggs to everyone, I would give specific shoutouts and what i remembered about gameplay but i don’t remember anyone’s name. Anyway, I’ll try my hardest to go and own up at T7 for sure.

I guess this log is about evo so I should talk about my games. I only played 3S, I would have played CFJ, but they didn’t have it. If we wern’t staying at the resort, I probably would have said screw evo and just hit the strip and stuff the rest of the time, and I wouldn’t have been alone on that…
My qualifiying pool is 1st, I don’t recognize any of the names in the pool at all. So i show up and setup my stick. The first guy I played doesn’t really play 3S or only plays at home or something cuz he’s using a PS pad. He picks Alex which is a really good matchup for Chun Li (yes, I use Chun Li in tourneys now). I make quick work of that match and he switches to Chun too I think, but I beat him. I ask to stay on so I don’t have to keep reconfiguring my buttons. My next match is a girl, and Will tells me she plays at FFA and not to screw around. I look over and Kane from WWE is her bf (seriously, look at the pic of him sitting beside her). She is getting her buttons ready and she can’t play with the stick in her lap so she goes “I have to go on my knees”; I’m a pervert so I can’t stop laughing. She picks Ken, so I pick Q. During the first match her buttons are set wrong, so we restart the match. I beat her 1 game. 2nd game, she pauses the game after i hit her back and taunt twice (defence bonus). That should be a loss of round for her, but I say we can continue from there, but other people tell her to restart the match. Ok, I don’t really care, I beat her that match anyway. She landed short, short super on me a bunch of times, so it wasn’t a cake walk or anything. I offer to shake her hand, and she doesn’t seem like she wants to. I hope she doesn’t think I was laughing at her or didn’t take our match seriously because I picked Q (he’s shitty, but he was my tourney character for like 4 years). My next match is against a Urien player who is also using pad, I thought he was gonna suck cuz of the pad but he was pretty good. Screwing around cost me the first round cuz he hit a dash-headbutt into aegis on me. I play my hardest and win the next 2 round, and then the match. The 4th guy in my pool doesnt show up so I win by DQ. Sweet I qualify in winners. My pool is still 2/3 and it later switches to 1 game. This is important in my pool because that girl’s stick issue continue (but they just restart) in other matches and she wins some matches (the 2nd and 3rd game). So she qualified in Losers.

My first match was against Ken I (Makoto user)… He qualified for Team USA and beat Ricky so I wasn’t feeling too confident… Makoto and Urien are the 2 matches I always have the most trouble with. Basically against Makoto you have to zone her with Chun, you don’t want to be right beside her and you don’t want to be across the screen from her at the edge of her dash. Ideally you wanna be about just inside chun’s low mk range to anywhere inside the max range of her dash. He chose SA2 for the first match, so I also want to keep us both on my side of the screen so it’s harder for him to land command grab, FP xx super. I’m actually able to get him to play my game but lose the first round. I have meter the 2nd round and land the low mk link and manage to take round 2. 3rd was really close, I land the super, but he uses my own stupid makoto setup on me (knockdown, whiff stand short, kara-command grab). Yeah I know it sounds dumb, but it’s really good, everyone eats it, including me now! I lose the 3rd round and I feel pretty confident, as each round i was a fierce punch or so away from winning. 2nd game he takes SA1, so I don’t have to worry too much about where I am on the screen, but I have to worry more about wakeup game as linking SA1 with makoto off stand strong or low mk is really easy. The stand strong link is probably the easiest in the game. The first round, I zone him well and take it. The 2nd round I actually cheat a little as I’m sitting on a chair and he’s sitting on the floor, on knockdown I watch his hands and parry whatever I see him doing and then low mk super. I would have landed those supers anyway as I knew he’d go for the meaty stand strong on my wakeup, and I was pretty sure he wouldn’t super if I parried the stand strong as most good players don’t throw out random supers. 3rd match he switched back to SA2. What I did wrong is that I started becoming too predictable, after he landed a hayate i was doing low jabs. After a neutral situation, I was also doing low jabs. So he picked up on that and parried and punished. I did just enough for him to win 2 close rounds in a row. I felt I could have had the match, but I got outplayed by a better player. The winner of this match plays C-Royd, so I don’t really feel too bad for losing as I would lose to C-Royd anyway.
My next match was against Mike Z, makoto again. He uses SA2 and I played this match really dumb. Same strats as the previous match, but I outzone him and out footsie him for a huge lead, but then I got cocky and greedy and went to his side of the screen, he’s land a command grab, then 100% stun. I lost the first match that way. Second match, I just played like a retard. I got rushed down and kept doing the wrong things after getting hit by a hayate. I should have low jabbed, ex hurricane kicked, dashed back. Instead I jumped, random parried, low mk (yeah low mk, I can’t believe I tried that too). Needless to say, I lost with my noobish play and I’m out in 65th place.

Palace Station
This was the 1st hotel we stayed at. It was quite a place for the price we payed for. It had a 2-4 and up tables that only had 1 blind…needless to say marv/ryan/antoine and especially wing spent most of the 2 days in that room. Oh yeah they had $6-10 buffet, sadly, americans don’t know how to fully process maple syrup so pancakes were a flop.

This is where Evo was held and where way stayed for the rest of the trip. GOD DAMN GVR is sick. It has the biggest outlet mall (bigger than mgm), a big casino with slots and tables (poker tables were put on hold till the week after evo), a bunch of event halls (there was a wedding the day of evo), a PANCAKE HOUSE, a shitload of bars, restaurants and a big buffet…and i mean big, a huge pool section with its own club/bar The dessert section alone had at least 50-80 diferent plates of food. The bars and clubs were hot too…quite a bit of escorts and ass.
